I bought a cake for my boss's birthday and was so embarrassed because it was not as good as expected. It was a vanilla and chocolate cake. It was expensive. It was so dense I could barely get the knife through it. The icing was not good. I had to actually chew the icing - no melting in your mouth with this cake. Unpleasant. I left the room and threw my piece away, but most of the people felt obligated to eat it because it was our boss. I am wondering if my putting it in the fridge had anything to do with the problem? I did have it in the fridge from 9am until 2pm. I should have asked about what to do with cake until I needed it at 2pm. I love most things from French's Bakery but will not buy a cake again.

I love this place but lately they have been slacking with their quality. The cake was delicious we ordered a tres leches with fresh strawberries inside (extra cost) and on top and because they aren't visible they used tasteless nearly rotten strawberries. This is disappointing because the only reason they do this is, is because they aren't visible. These cakes aren't cheap and the quality should reflect that. Should not have to pick out the strawberries from my cake.

I decided to order my sons first birthday cake here and I was so dissatisfied and disappointed with the appearance of the cake. I thankfully bought toppers since they mentioned that they do not work with fondant but this cake was supposed to be safari themed. I had my sister pick up the cake for us on a Saturday and when she brought it to the party when I had called them to complain they were already closed.( they are closed early Saturdays and closed all day Sundays) I had to wait to call them until Monday when they reopened to complain about how disappointed I was and I was not transferred to the manager or owner instead the lady in the front answered and said there was nothing they could do not even apologize for the way the cake turned out. This place I feel didn’t care about the importance of my sons first birthday cake, my feedback or being understanding about my complaint. This $200 cake I feel was rushed even though we had ordered it 3 weeks in advanced and the bread was dry, frosting tasted like straight sugar. I hope that no one makes the same mistake as me and goes elsewhere for the cakes. This was a very horrible experience and I feel like if I had been able to speak to a manager or the owner instead of being brushed off it would have been better just knowing that they cared enough to listen.

I like this bake shop because it's close to where my son goes to swim and I sometimes come here when I wait for my son. They are Wi-Fi equipped and a restroom but I haven't use the restroom so I don't know if they are clean.

Great designers for custom cakes. Highly recommend their custom cup cakes and cookies as well.

This was my first (and last) purchase at this bakery. I read where many folks had issues with customer service, which I did not. The reason for my 2-star rating was the food. You would think that a French bakery would have baguettes on the shelf. I was told I had to order 24 hours ahead if I wanted some. They do have French bread, which I purchased, only to find that it tasted no better than supermarket bread and seemed to be a day old in texture. I also tried their butter croissants. I was not impressed! They also tasted a day old and almost soggy, not fluffy and crispy like a fresh croissant. I am a bread baker on a regular basis. I make baguettes 2-3 times per month and have made croissants many times before. I know that this is a family run business. It's time for the family to start listening to customers and improve the product. You are losing customers!

Great location, amazing pastry, fresh breads. This review was 4 years ago, and a sad change has come to pass.I took a friend and family here again this past Saturday, and CoVid has taken its toll. In the past, you could walk into the bakery in the morning to early afternoon and find the displays full. Saturday looked dismal, only 3 types of fresh bread, 2 plain croissants, a few Danish, and a lot of day old cookies. Not even the smell of fresh coffee or baking I used to get was there. The eclairs looked tempting, and we ended up with 4, because they were always a step above most everywhere else, even specialty bakeries. The quality has gone the way of the dodo, the custard is packaged, which can be ok, not this time. Overcooked/heated, separated, grainy, chemical tasting yuck. The choux was stale before filling, only making the eclair that much worse. What used to be an amazing coating of ganache has degraded to a chocolate flavored frosting that doesn't hold up to temp/humidity fluctuation.Items that used to bring students and staff in from OCC are now strictly special order, so if you're a fan, call ahead, place your order for when you can pick up, and double check that they completed the order before leaving, as some special orders are not being fulfilled properly, and worse, the errors are getting blamed on the customer.I hope the owners take heart to these reviews, and work to earn the reputation they once had.

They used to offer a uniquely special omelet cheese bread with a jalapeño option as a daily option and it would sell out every day. Now it is just special order but it is worth the trip and the special order. Enough so that when I travel from out of state, I schedule time nearly every trip to get to French's after calling a day in advance for the cheese bread, extra cheesy. It is about $7 a loaf and well worth it. Imagine a firm, pillowy textured bread with strong veins if golden cheddar mixed throughout a moist egg based dough. The mouth feel is excellent and the cheesy, slightly salty taste results in a total loaf being consumed as a meal substitute. Very hard to put down. Almost as if a deliciously cheesy quiche morphed into a loaf of bread.French's was hit hard by covid and had to consolidate some stores. I worry some day it will no longer be around, similar to the classic Claim Jumper of old (bought out and commercialized elsewhere into a shell of its former self). This is a bread that a cheese monger or bread lover should try before you die.Other than that, French's has a large variety of baked treats, bread and they make excellent custom cakes. It might remind you of an actual French bakery you might encounter in Saint Germain.Trust me and treat yourself to this delicacy, a treat I haven't encountered anywhere else.

Was so surprised by this! My husband bought a cake for a huge milestone with my job. We couldn't stop raving about it. It was perfectly balanced with the acidity of lemon and sweet blueberries. The sweetness wasn't overpowering, it was the perfect amount. We always buy our cakes from here now because every single time, the flavors are wonderfully proportionate.

There's nothing special about their cakes. The prices are way too high for you pay for. I'd rather get one from supermarkets because they taste pretty much the same and cost $10+ less. The guys behind the counter could be a bit less lethargic - a smile would leave a good impression.

The Boston cream pie was horrible and tasted nothing like one. The pudding/cream was a really strange texture and not what you expect in a Boston cream pie. The other items all tasted stale and tasteless......dainish, cookies, and horrible brownies. The pastries looked delicious and so I spent a lot of money buying many. But all of us were totally disappointed. I thought I had found a new bakery to go to, but will not go there again.
