One of the best old school sandwich shops, it's been there for decades and it's just as good as ever. They make it exactly how you like it, ingredients are top notch, and it's a cool little place to have a sandwich and some chips or potato or macaroni salad.

Love the food and service. I believe they have been there 50yrs or more and there is no wonder why. Dont spend your money at subway, jimmy johns or any other until you come here...better pricing too!

Ruby's is a local sandwich shop that's been here for years. It's really amazing. One of the best sub sandwiches I've had in a long time.

Best sandwiches in southern California!

I was in the area looking and craving a good sandwich. I turned to Yelp and rubys sandwich saloon was highly suggested. I was super excited to try it so I walk in and you definitely get this saloon style sandwich shop very cute and inviting. The ordering process is a little different here- you grab a slip of paper and it has all the options they have to offer for hot & cold sandwiches. I wish the woman at the counter had explained I could mark 'hot' for my sandwich to be hot- which I would have enjoyed way more: it wasn't thoroughly explained as I would have liked it to be considering it was my first time and I mentioned that. NBD. I ordered a half tuna sandwich on sourdough- I did not expect to actually get just a half of sandwich bread for almost $8 bucks. I probably would have went with the roll. Pics below for a better idea. But I had to take a bite I was starving. The tuna was dry. It did not have much flavor to it: think I I would have enjoyed it much more as a tuna melt - again didn't know I had that option. Overall the experience was okay - staff could have been a little more helpful. I will not be back.

I really like this cozy little spot. The sandwiches are great, lots of options for bread and ingredients which include a rare gem, alfalfa sprouts! I had a ham on the baguette! Ham was outstanding, sweet and thinly sliced! Perfection! The ownership was pleasant and upbeat. Service was polite and fast! I dig the old school western saloon motif too! So Pony Up to Ruby's and design your own sandwich masterpiece! You won't regret it!

I ordered a sandwich online today (via Side Order), and their handling of the order was awful. I got to the restaurant about 10 minutes after ordering- it wasn't ready, and the restaurant was packed. No big deal; I figured it might be five minutes longer. However, I ended up having to wait 25-30 minutes for my one sandwich! In the time I was waiting, I saw someone order in person, and that person got their order in about 20 minutes (a long wait time, but still before me). I finally got my sandwich, and there was no apology, no offer of a drink or something for waiting, nothing but a curt thank you. They claimed their online ordering machine was slow (or something like that), but I think the real issue was that they were too disorganized preparing orders. On a previous occasion when ordering online (about six or more months ago), they were out of almost every bread, which wasn't reflected online. I got a call about 10-15 minutes after I ordered, and they told me they only had two types of bread left (which I didn't want). After trying to get me to accept one of those (but not offering a refund), I asked for a refund. They said they would refund me. Of course, they never did, and I had to call Side Order to refund me. I've had a few orders that have gone smoothly, but the bad orders were really bad. Wasting 30 minutes out of my short life for a sandwich is asinine. Especially when people who ordered 15 minutes after me received their food first. The sandwiches are good and somewhat reasonably priced, so that is the reason for the two stars. I'll be giving this place a one-year time out though. I don't have time for such annoyances, especially when there are so many other sandwich places around.

One of my favorite places since elementary. Absolutely delish and always feel like home.

The house that Margot built. A Newport Beach institution that has stood the test of time. The best mom & pop style sandwich shop in the world. Yes, if you go there enough times you might get a sub-par sandwich. It happens. But in my 39 years of eating at Ruby's, I have rarely been disappointed. Consistently, the best FRESH sandwich bread on a daily basis and that is the key ingredient to their success. Kudos to the owners that bought the shop from Margot and were smart enough to do everything the same way that she did. Order up a whole roast beef sandwich with all the fixings on Squaw, get 4 spunkies and a large iced tea or coke. Then head down the street to the little park on Kings Road and have lunch sitting on the bench enjoying the view of Newport harbor and the beach below. You won't be disappointed.

Used to be great but has declined. Wanted my sandwich hot and it was cold. Wanted pepperoncinis and received none. Maybe the sandwich maker today was just poor at following directions but if that's the case they prob shouldn't be working here. Really a bummer because this same sort of situation happened last time we visited this place. It was an online order so there was no way the order got submitted incorrectly. Huge bummer.

This is immediately classified as a neighborhood gem. It's tucked away in their mall location, but deliciousness all the way around. Made to order, fresh, yummy....I was in a rush, but was there a bar? I loved the quaint, old school vibe--thar really looked like a saloon!! Whatever it is, thumbs up! Thanks for a great lunch!!
