This review is for the Square Pie Guys in the Local Kitchens store. The rating is for the pizza only, and comment on price point is later in the review. Overall, pretty good Detroit style pizza. I would say the highlight is the pepperoni, pretty generous amount and very crisp, giving each bite tons of texture. The sauce is not bad, but not amazing. The bottom was crisp. I'm not familiar with Detroit style pizzas as much, but the dough thickness seemed good to me. Now, this pizza is HEAVY. I usually have a pretty large appetite (2 Costco slices gets me satisfied if that's a good metric), and I was pretty satisfied after 2 of the 4 slices. I ended up finishing all 4 in a sitting, and felt kind of gross. I would suggest sharing with someone, or at least saving half for another time. I don't typically include cost in my rating, since I want to review just the pizza itself. So please note - the pizza is very expensive for what it is. Yes, it's a good pizza. But for $25 (not including tax and a MANDATORY service charge), it's bordering on worth/not worth. I likely won't be going a second time purely for price, but if you're craving some Detroit style pizza, it's a pretty good option in the area.

Pretty good! The pizza has a a good crisp and was hot and fresh. Good cheese to sauce and bread ratio. I ordered a pepperoni at the kiosk and went up to the counter and asked the host to actually do half peperoni and half cheese and he kindly obliged. My wife is vegetarian and we were going to order a whole cheese and whole pepperoni and end up wasting some so I wad thankful for them making this small modification. Parking is in the rear in a lot. There are a few tables inside so you can eat. I love the local kitchen concept you have so much good food under one roof!

We ordered the cheese and the 6x8 pepperoni Detroit style pizza and both were AWESOME. Really cool restaurant and great service, but the delicious pizza is the reason my friends and I are going back again tomorrow!

Pepperoni overcooked -- almost charred -- and little flavor. Mushrooms that were chewy and squeaked. (Yes, really.)

What can I say - YUM! Best pizza I've had in the Bay Area ever. I hope they open a full experience location near me soon.

Ordered a How Mush-Room pizza today from the Local Kitchens storefront, and what I received was a pepperoni-covered pizza with some mushrooms? This was ordered for a friend who cannot eat meat, so now we have an unwanted pizza that we didn't even order. The item description and pictures/videos from the LK site show no indication of pepperoni being included in there at all. Kinda disappointed because this happened the last time I ordered from them too.

This review is not for Local Kitchens (interesting concept by the way), only for Square Pie Guys (SPG). There are only a few choices of SPG pizza at this satellite kitchen location which is fine with me because I love pepperoni, and this is a primary offering at this location. This pizza is Detroit Stye which means folks from Chicago to Detroit to Buffalo to NYC to Boston should be able to relate with this pizza style. It is loaded with sauce, cheese and pepperoni and is 3/4 the thickness of a Chicago style pizza. Some folks compare it to a Sicilian Style pizza. I love the way the sauce and cheese caramelize on the fluffy crusty edges. I sense a connection to the Buffalo pizza style flavor with that sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Is it greasy? you can bet your booty that it is because all the "cup and char" (look it up) pepperoni is leaking all over the place and adding mega flavor. Two slices filled me up for the rest of the day. After searching the Bay Area for a decent pizza for decades, this pizza is a true jewel in an area void of decent pizza. Since California natives were brought up on bland West Coast pizza recipes, they may have a difficult time with this pizza but so be it. I'll be back.

***THIS REVIEW IS JUST FOR SQUARE PIE GUYS AS A VENDOR SERVED AT LOCAL KITCHENS AND NOT FOR THE LOCAL KITCHENS FOOD HALL AS A WHOLE***So full disclosure, I have never tried Square Pie Guys much less Detroit-style pizza ever before, so I came here with a completely blank slate. I had heard a lot about Square Pie Guys and knew it was popular in the city so I was excited when Local Kitchens decided to take it on as a vendor. The menu here at Local Kitchens consists only of the basics so please don't expect any of the more specialty options that you would get at their SF location when ordering from here. I got the Big Von and Mush-a-roni. Like I said, I have never eaten Detroit-style pizza, so my brief research showed me that it's essentially a crustless and slice-by-the-square pizza. Now, I certainly don't expect to be counting my calories nor eating the healthiest of foods when I have pizza, but when I opened my pizza box, I was quite shocked. The pizza was completely covered in grease. When I started to eat my slice, I also felt like I needed to hit the gym immediately. The pizza looks like it is a pseudo-version of deep-dish but it's definitely not as dense, which makes me think that they have added oil to make it more puffy hence the grease. I also did a little more research and it seems like they add cheese to the crust to make it crisp, which would further explain the grease.Overall, I was not impressed with this Detroit-style pizza much less Square Pie Guys. I honestly felt like the square pie that you get a Pizza Hut was better and tastier. Maybe I need to give the OG location in the city a chance and taste more specialty options before quickly ruling out Square Pie Guys but so far, not a fan.

This is part of the Local Kitchen "combo" restaurant. They regularly change the line-up so that we can experiment with new restaurants. I will say this is a keeper.I don't know what city this pizza is the style of. It is, duh, rectangular in shape, and not intimidating in size. It's one of those deep-dish style. The dough was puffy and bread like, contrast to the dense Chicago style. It was baked well to give just the right crisp on the edges and nice melted cheeses on top. All 4 pieces had the crisp edge and that's nice. The buffalo wings were OK. I would like them to be a bit more spicy. But you cannot fault the restaurant for that. Stay with pizza.
