Just went there after years of not going. It was hot and Smokey in there. No ventilation. So uncomfortable being in there. Couldn't wait to get out.too pricey for what they offer.

Too noisy, too crowded,. Service slow to get started. Had reservations, they took us 1/2 hour late. Waited a long time for dessert. Served us very frozen cheesecake a fork couldn't pierce it. Confronted waitress and she says frozen cheesecake is how they serve it. Felt rushed to finish dessert so they could get table ready for next patron. (We took cheese cake home to defrost). The cheesecake portion was ridiculously small. Will not go there again.ordered hot sake it was not hot. Every part of our stay was not satisfactory

The food and presentation is minimum four stars. The real problem is the cleanliness of the floors and the walls in the restaurant; which needs to be shut down and thoroughly cleaned. The sides of the tables are sticky. The chairs are sticky. The post that holds the grill are so sticky and dirty. It's amazing they stay open. Perhaps everything needs to be sanded down and cleaned and stained

We had a server that was rude and insulted our intelligence. She spoke extremely rude to my 12 year old child, regarding the kids menu. I had already previously told the manager her age, so she knew. The server said something about my daughter's body size, and was insulting(too much to type out.) My family was triggered and outraged. I was sitting there and her concerns could have been addressed to me, you should never speak to a child regarding adult matters. I spoke back to the manager after the encounter, she said she understood , and would train them better for next time. She was over complementary, about any and everything, but offered us nothing , nor did the server apologize or come back. I've been coming here for years, but likely will cease in the future.

When dining at Hana Japan you know what you're there for, great food and a great show. The service was amazing and they were so cute at catering to my 3 children and keeping them engaged the whole time. The food was good, my husband's steak wasn't done right so they immediately went and fixed that for him. The family that owns the restaurant is so kind and really takes care of their customers.

Teppanyaki experiences are so fun! I've been seeing more and more people hire chefs for private backyard parties, weddings, and more. Purchasing a teppanyaki grill or flat grill is also super popular right now, people taking action to wow their guests from the comfort of their own home! Family-owned and operated since 1979, Hana Japan has 2 locations in the East Bay ~ Dublin and Berkeley. Most recently we went to the Dublin location. Upon entry while waiting for a table you can snag a drink at the bar ~ beer/wine, sake, and speciality cocktails. As far as starters, we had a large party and wanted to save room for the main event, so we went with the calamari & chicken gyoza potstickers ~ both a perfect, light snack. What I love is that each entree comes with soup, salad, rice (we always upgrade to fried rice), veggies, and your choice of a protein. Proteins range from chicken, steak, shrimp, lobster, salmon, and mixing 2 together for a combo. For those that have never experienced this before I won't share too much of the surprise, but you do have a personal table chef cooking your food live in front of you and serving you straight from grill to plate. Fresh, fun, and super yummy! Hearty portions, enthusiastic service, dinner & a show, you can't go wrong (worth the extra splurge on occasion). We had our young nephews with us & just seeing their eyes and faces light up watching the chef's knife skills and fun commentary throughout is something I know they will be talking about for quite some time! Reservations suggested. There's plenty of parking & a special menu for the kiddos. Pro tip: birthdays get a special discount!

Walked it and smelled like a urinal. Tiles on the ceiling had water stains, and even though we got there when they opened, we still waited at our table for 30 minutes before someone took our food order. Food was good, servings were fair, staff was friendly.

Food was meh but service was terrible and unfriendly. Went to celebrate a birthday and knew they would charge a " corkage" fee for bringing our own cake. Fine.. sat with strangers and felt odd about not sharing the cake so we did. We didn't d not honk they would subsequently charge us for the two strangers as well. Overall, the hostesses were unresponsive and unfriendly!

The food was great and the vibes were high. It was surprisingly pretty crowded on a random Wednesday night. The free birthday meal only counts if you have a party of four or more. It's expensive but worthwhile for a fun, interactive experience and special occasion. The bartender was so friendly (I forget her name unfortunately), as were the other staff members. The only downside was that it was super smokey in the hibachi room. I feel like someone needed to crack a window or turn a fan on. Someone in our party has a respiratory condition and they couldn't stop coughing with all the smoke. We unfortunately had to take our food to the bar by the door. It was still a wonderful experience and probably would be fine if no one has underlying respiratory conditions but I just wanted to flag in case anyone else is in the same boat and wants to be mindful about their restaurant choice!

We made reservations to celebrate two family birthdays and being a holiday it wasn't too busy for a party of 7! We had to wait til our entire party arrived to be seated. Julio was our chef and was entertaining as even our 18 month old grandson was entertained. Two of us ordered shrimp and rib eye, two ordered NY steak and salmon and two ordered NY steak and we also ordered fried rice. Food was good and the two birthday boys got their meal discounted and the server gave them pineapple for dessert

Our chef was absolutely amazing. He listened to my request regarding the cook on my food ( no matter how crazy they may have seemed ). Our chef really interacted with our table and was an absolute joy. Food was delicious. I have been there several times and this was the best.

My family came here today (Feb 18th) with a group of 8, and we were celebrating two birthdays in the group. The place was booked and full. Not too long after sitting, two people in our group noticed they were sitting under an active leak. We pointed it out to the server, she brought over an older employee who saw the leak but they both did nothing. The leak temporarily stopped but towards the end, started leaking again and eventually drenched both of the people sitting under it. Multiple employees saw the leak. When dinner was over, my parents asked the hostest if there’s anyone we can talk to regarding maybe getting a discount for the people who sat under the leak. The woman, whose name I regretfully did not get, laughed and said “why wouldn’t you let someone know so we could move you?” So we told her we DID let someone know but since it was full there was no where else to put us. She said “oh, well we already applied 2 birthday discounts so that’s all we can do for you”. Which was extremely unprofessional and tactless in my opinion. The whole thing was just extremely disappointing. That employee laughing at our situation was terribly rude. My family have been coming to this location for years, but it seems the age of the building is finally starting to show.Do not come here.
