Didn't expect to find a spot like this in Fresno but found it on Yelp and were pleasantly surprised. This is a cozy little shop in admittedly not the best area, but the mochi we got made it worth the trip while we were in the area. Mochi were tasty and not too sweet, and I really liked the texture of the manju with the flavor of the red bean filling. We had a chat with the store owner who was in charge that day, and she was really friendly! We wanted to leave a tip, but she declined it. Definitely support your small mom-and-pop businesses, especially when the sweets taste this good!

This place was like walking back into a time warp of a place I'd visit when I was very young and gave off that old school Japantown vibe! I guess that explains their longevity of being in business for more than 100 years. The glass display cases shuttled me back to the 1960s and loved it immensely! But what took it to the top was the small batches of handmade mochi and manju. They have them filled with traditional red or white bean sprinkled with kinako but the fresh or put filling fruit varieties were oh so yummy. What I really enjoyed was the apple cinnamon pancake version. All were only $2 apiece. I didn't try them but they also had mochi ice cream too. To ensure you get what you want you can call in and order ahead. Be forewarned they only accept cash and bring a required face mask.

Going to echo what many people have said, and say that the daifuku is delicious. This place is way better than Fugetsu-Do, our shop here in Los Angeles. I would definitely return. It is definitely worth the trip if you're in Fresno. Now to the bad. Location is in Fresno's Chinatown. When we got there, a guy was laying right next to the entrance, completely out of it and muttering and other random shadiness was going on nearby. Lock your car. Secondly, and it's her prerogative, but I had no idea I needed a mask inside the store. Her attitude was aggressive and she told me to just cover my face with my shirt. Judging from other reviews, I'm not a one off case. She does this all the time and while trying to keep my shirt over my face, order and trying to get my wallet out to pay, her attitude was one of extreme impatience and annoyance. If she's the one making the daifuku, I would highly suggest she pay someone else to man the register, because human interaction is not her specialty. Things to glean from this review. Not the best area. Call ahead and try to have what you want made. Stock was so slim when we were there. Had to take what was left instead of what we wanted. Also, call ahead to make sure they're even open because we had to go two days in a row. First day, they were closed during business hours because she had apparently ran out of product. Second day, we got lucky. Bottom line, this is a gem, food wise in Fresno. I recommend going at least once, but definitely steel yourself against the owner's horrible customer service skills... because I have a feeling she's more often rude than pleasant.

It's hard to critique anything here. The shop is tiny and cute, but appropriate for what you're buying. No frills which is nice compared to many modern day sweets-type shops. They won't take tips, FYI. Lots of options. The girl helping us with our order was extremely knowledgeable and made sure we knew exactly what we were getting.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Was visiting from LA and my aunt wanted to try this place. Got here early and got one of everything! A bit disappointed that they didnt have plain mochi (i.e. rainbow dango, kinako mochi).STOREFRONT: Small, currently require guests to wear masks.ORDERED: Mochi with mung bean, mochi with red bean, mochi wihth fruit filling (cinnamon apple, apricot, peach). The fruit filling is jam-like and a bit sweet.SERVICE: Service was good, and they were friendly.

The yummiest food ever and totally worth the drive. I would call in advance to place your order. Bring cash though!

Tried this place for the first time! If you want a variety of items to buy, you better go early! I got a red bean mochi and it was delicious!

If you want to taste some Oriental Fresno history then I encourage you to go try some amazing Japanese goodies here. We ordered several different items and we loved everything we tried. You can taste the love, care, tradition and history in each bite. It's a very small place, they do sell out of things pretty fast and they do require that customers mask up.

Ben and Diane brought me here. They gave me a few of your manju and they were delicious! Never had fruits in my manju, but they worked well. Thank you!

In addition to their array of traditional-style mochi, I would suggest newcomers try out their seasonal assortments as well. The fruit-filled mochi is always a plus, but unique styles (such as the peanut butter and Nutella-stuffed flavors) should be given a go on your visit. Also a note as of this review, MASKS ARE MANDATORY FOR ENTRY INTO THE BUSINESS, so don't forget to pack one before your visit.

Right off of 99. Seems like the old side of town... In a bit of a rundown area. Only take cash and no bills higher than a 20.

Best shaved ice. Been going since I was a child.
