The best chicken wings I've ever had! The chicken wings were fried and gave it a nice crunchy texture even it was smothered with their sweet sticky sauce. I love the salty and sweet flavor! I can't wait to visit Santa Ana again and Hodalla Cafe By Ruiji is definitely one of my food stops!

This is definitely my boyfriend and I's go to spot in Garden Grove! This place is Taiwanese fusion and has everything from chicken wings, orange chicken, mapo tofu, boba, takoyaki, egg waffles with ice cream, etc etc! We've tried almost everything on their menu and can confidently say, everything is 5 stars!Chicken wings: our fav flavors are definitely the curry, garlic soy sauce, and hodalla mix. The owner makes sure to buy bigger sized wings which is amazing because you actually get what you pay for.Popcorn chicken: probably one of the best appetizers at this place. I am 100% obsessed. Such great flavor and so crispy and juicy.Mapo tofu: another classic here! Absolutely love this dish, eso if you like tofu. You can also customize the spice levels which is great.Teas/boba: if you're the type of person that actually likes to taste the tea and not just sugar, then this is the best place.Egg waffles w ice cream: not only does this place fill u up, but then they have bomb dessert too!! The egg waffles are always crisp on the outside yet still nice and soft on the inside. You can customize what toppings to get too!Lastly, the owner is just such a kind person who genuinely cares about his customers. He can customize spice levels, sweetness, etc etc. He stressed how much he cares about the loyal customers that always comes back to support them.Make sure to support local and small businesses right now!

Parking: easy with a nice sized lotSafety: sufficient space blocked off from register to order and wait 6+ ft apart. Two small outdoor tables set up.Food: Amazing portions and the star is definitely their popcorn chicken! Takoyaki also delicious and the mapo tofu had so much variety of textures. The spice levels are pretty high so may wanna opt for mild if you’re a lightweight like me lol.Ice cream waffle: wow I was so impressed how crispy the waffle stayed even when the ice cream was melting! Gotta go back to try the savory ones!Howard is so kind and is open to feedback. Looking forward to returning to try more items from their growing menu!

Just found this place while we were in the area. There's not many Taiwanese restaurants in Garden Grove, and this place has food with good flavor.I've never had chicken wings like the ones they have here. The wings are big and their flavors are delicious.Generous portions and courteous owners.Definitely recommend this place and will be coming back.

Maybe I was just spoiled after living in the Rowland Heights/Diamond Bar area, but the food here at Hodalla Cafe was extremely disappointing. I haven't seen too many Taiwanese style popcorn chicken spots in the OC area, but I'd rather drive 30+ minutes to Rowland Heights. Some of the reviews really praise this as the best popcorn chicken? They're definitely missing out on its true potential. The product I received was nowhere near the "best." Very unfortunate. I was really hoping to have found a place down here but that place is not Hodalla. What was wrong with it? Texture and freshness mostly. The flavor was there and you could taste that it was marinated. The coating was not it for me. It was extremely soggy and was soaked in oil. Very unappetizing. Of course oil is necessary to fry, but they did not allow the chicken to drain the excess oil. It was really unenjoyable because each bite left my mouth full of grease. As you can see in the picture, the portion of popcorn chicken was also very disappointing. Not even half full. The chicken wings were worse. I got the Hodalla Mix flavor. Not going to lie, these were some of the worst chicken wings I've ever had. They tasted like frozen chicken wings you buy at the store but somehow even worse. The quality of chicken was very poor as a result of being frozen. You can tell when chicken wings are frozen because the bones turn a dark brown color. There was barely any meat and was mainly chicken fat and bones. The little meat that was there was very chewy and tough to bite through. There was no resemblance of them being crispy. The amount of sauce did not hide the quality of chicken and it just made it soggy. I didn't really want to finish it but I paid $8 for 6 pieces... The flavor of the Hodalla Mix sauce did not work at all. It didn't know what it wanted to be. Sweet and spicy? Sweet and sour? It was very awkward tasting. Maybe it's called the Hodalla Mix because they literally just mixed whatever sauces and spices they had without knowing if it actually tasted good. The food was so bad and I just do not think I can give them another chance based on how bad it was. There was no estimated time for pickup. Before ordering, I read reviews saying the food took awhile. I don't live too far away so I honestly just had to guess how long it would be so I gave it around 10-15 minutes. Maybe if I was given a more accurate pickup time the food would have been slightly more fresh and crispy. Do yourself a favor and drive to Rowland Heights for the best Taiwanese popcorn chicken.

I came for popcorn chicken and tea on 8/12 around 5:30pm. The popcorn chicken and teas tasted amazing! It's just like Taiwan.Unfortunately, I went at a time where there was only one employee, so it took awhile to get the food and drinks. I feel so sorry for the lone empyee who was taking orders and cooking food. This shouldn't happen ever at a restaurant no matter how big or small. Please fix this!

Ruiji used to own my absolute FAVORITE boba and chill spot a few years ago named Yami Teahouse in Lomita CA! My friends and I would stop by literally ONCE A WEEK to grab ourselves some of his famous popcorn chicken and a boba on the side (honestly he made the best boba tea in the South Bay as well.) After hearing he had to close it down due to a personal reason a little piece of me died...my favorite hang our spot was gone forever. Well it wasn't until a few days ago that I received word that Ruiji had opened up a NEW restaurant out in Garden Grove! I called up the same homies that used to hit Yami and flew out to Hodalla as fast as humanely possible! And BOY was it worth the speeding ticket!Ruiji's lemon pepper popcorn chicken meal was one of my FAVORITE eats back when he owned Yami Teahouse but because he's improved his recipe EVEN MORE since then, not a second goes by when I don't crave this bowl of gold! His dry and wet bone in chicken wings are TO DIE FOR as well! He'll seriously put WingStop out of business if he keeps that up!And lastly he blessed us with one of his Waffle desserts filled with chocolate chips, Oreos and more! I promise you it's like nothing you've ever tasted before and absolutely delicious!Ruiji has DONE IT AGAIN and even though Hodalla is a bit of a farther trip than Yami Teahouse used to be, my friends and I will DEFINITELY be starting up our once a week visits just like the old days! Thanks for everything Ruiji!
