Loved it, loved it! It's nice, clean, and very cozy. It wasn't crowded or busy so we loved the chill vibe with the music playing. The service is great, they're friendly and very attentive. The the food is just phenomenal!! The fried chicken is crispy and delicious, the potato salad is yummy, and the mac n' cheese is to die for. The complimentary sweet potato cornbread muffins were warm and so good with butter. The fried okra is amazing too. Dessert was very delicious, we had sweet potato pie and it was super yummy but our favorite was the delicious peach cobbler ??. Definitely a place to recommend and worth every dollar. We'll be back to try other dishes on the menu. Thank you for your delicious food and great service ?????

Went in at 5 pm, waiter then started taking calls for orders and questions from people that were not even in the restaurant. I guess phone money was more valuable than in person money.

Ok so got there when they open on a Saturday very cute was greeted my I guess the owners kids. The chicken could of been fried longer my mash potatoes were cold the red beans and rice was dry. The water they give you was clean and not tapped. Plates should have all the food on them not main on a big plate and sides on a different plate. But my hubby got the catfish said it was good but fried longer would be better. Greens were good mac and cheese as well. If in the area will go back but for a togo plate of greens and catfish.

As a proud Southerner I pride myself in knowing what GOOD soul food tastes like. I am from Atlanta so I've had a plethora of GOOD soul food & also subpar food.... Sista Mary's outdid themselves! Period. A hidden gem in GLENDALE, my fiancé and I were genuinely surprised to find it in the neighborhood but we are so glad we did. Upon arrival we were nervous cuz it was empty but we didn't let that deter us. Good decision. We had the catfish dinner & shrimp po'boy. The sides we had were the Mac & cheese, baked beans, potato salad & yams. SO MUCH FOOD! And ALL delicious ! They start by giving you warm sweet potato corn bread muffin & butter. Delish! I was stuffed so I didn't get dessert but I'll be trying the peach cobbler and banana pudding in the future!! Awesome service! Can't wait to try to brunch!!!

Ok, so as a Georgian living in California, it's tough to find food that reminds me of home. From the moment I sat down, the memories came flooding back. First, I was greeted like an old friend and every time I asked for anything, the words "it's my pleasure" were said so many times I thought I was at a Chick-Fil-A training session. As I became lost in the music flooding the room, a basket of warm cornbread appeared on the table. It melted in my mouth and almost didn't need the butter that came with it. Next, the group ordered. We started with fried okra and ox tail sliders. The others with me had never tried okra before and were skeptical. Let's just say they loved them and I considered ordering a bag full to go because they were that good. They were fried just enough to still enjoy the taste of what was inside the batter. As for the sliders, the meat was unbelievably tender and the flavor was just plain delicious. I might order them for lunch next time as you get three plus an order of fries. As for the entrees, two of my coworkers got the chicken and waffles and another got just a fried breast of chicken. The chicken was all perfectly fried and the waffles were golden brown with a little powdered sugar. I have never seen one of my coworkers ever finish his plate but he did today. Three guys who usually can't stop talking were all face down eating and smiling the whole time, unable to speak. As for me, I got the smothered chicken with baked beans and collards. The gravy was perfect and not too heavy. The chicken breast was honestly the size of my head but of course, I finished it because it was just that good. The beans were very tasty and not too sweet. The collards were the only item that was not exactly how I remember them, but then again, the recipe from my youth was probably so unhealthy with the amount of bacon fat in it that it would probably be a crime to serve it. That said, they had a very good flavor. Walking into the restaurant, I fully intended to eat pie but I was just too full by the end of the meal. I will definitely make room for it next time. And yes, there will be a next time. Thank you Sista Mary for bringing a little south back to my mouth!

Amazing food, the catfish has that crunch that can't be easily duplicated. Will be back.

Love the music Outgoing, efficient, prompt customer service My new fav spot when in Glendale for soul food. A diamond in the rough. Easily located right off the freeway.

Unfortunately most often than not, when it comes to soul food, the bar is quite high in my book. I grew up around some exceptionally phenomenal cooks whom did not play around. Who knew the right way of doing things...how to season things...how to make food remind you of who you are and where you come from. I grew up with food made by a great grandma whom had a switch nearby just in case, with chickens clucking nearby and an abundantly all encompassing garden within reach. So to say the food was fresh is an understatement. As children my sister and I watched great grandma grab them chickens by the neck, break them necks and throw em in a big drum until they stopped making noise. From there they were dipped in a hot bath, plucked if their feather, sliced/cut what have you then seasoned and coated appropriately and fried in that respectful iron skillet. Whilst in another skillet off on the kitchen table, you know them ones that are now considered "retro", sat some homemade cornbread that was made earlier and a kitchen linen laid on top of. In another pot were greens that were just previously plucked from the garden, washed thoroughly and debugged (cuz there are bugs in real garden because this was the real organic stuff...no pesticides at.all!). That big old pot of greens just bathing in all its flavor and broth. So now that you know why that soul food bar is set, you can kind of understand why and how. I wanted to give this place all my love. I was ready to make this my go to spot. I would have shouted from the mountain tops if this place brought me back to my childhood. Unfortunately it did not. My sister and her girlfriend both wanted the same as I and we were so excited. My sister and I ordered the oxtail plates and I ordered mine with red beans and rice and mac and cheese. My sister ordered her oxtails with mac n cheese and collard greens. My sister's gf ordered some fried chicken, sweet potatoes with no marshmallows and mac n cheese. We also ordered some featured drinks and had them throw in a shot of alcohol each. We also ordered fried pickles as our appetizer. Upon walking in there were a couple tables take. Nice, intimate yet comfortable space. Lighting is dim but not skeptically dark. Black and white photos of 90's shows on the walls. 80/90's R&B playing overhead. We were greeted immediately upon entering by a cheerful young lady. She kindly informed us that they were going to have a guest performer that evening so there was a $10 cover. We decided to stay. About 5 minutes of looking at the menu we collectively decided to ask if we could just order to go as we were a bit pressed for time. The waitress approved. We made out order. A few minutes later one of the gentleman from one of the other tables came and informed us we still had at least 45 minutes and didn't need to leave if we didn't want to pay the cover and stay for the performance. I thought that was nice. But we really did need to get going. Food came out in a timely manner. The drinks we ordered were large and you couldn't taste the alcohol in them. We tasted the pickles as soon as they arrived. Pickles were thinly cut and the breading had a great crunch, texture and taste but I wish those pickles were a tad thicker. The Lyft ride to the hotel took all of 15 minutes. Get to the room and crack open our food. Tasted them pickles again only this time they were salty after they cooled down. The oxtails were soft and falling off the bone and gravy coated it well but there was something missing. The mac n cheese felt as if the noodles had been overcooked and felt as if the cheese had evaporated or something. The red beans and rice were good. Beans were tender, rice al dente and seasoned well. Those sweet potato cornbread muffins were a nice change from the norm. They came out sweet and warm enough to melt the butter it came with. I just couldn't justify how some stuff was salty and some was missing salt. had the flavor of that gravy complimented the tenderness of that

Very pleasant staff and fantastic food! Will definitely be back! Be sure to try the chicken with a side of hot sauce; you won't be disappointed! The next time I go I'm going for the fried okra.

My daughter and I absolutely loved our meals. I got the fried catfish (fried perfectly might I add) with Mac and cheese/yams...my daughter got the lemon grilled chicken with Mac and cheese/salad. We’re very picky eaters but clearly dusted off our entire plates at Sista Marys!!! We just relocated from NYC and were searching for a good soul food spot. Now that we’ve found this gem...our search is over!! ❤️❤️❤️
