went by today and so bummed it is closed. It was to be expected, as everything in Pacific City seems to take a dive. Supposedly going to open into something new, but who knows

Ask for Ricardo. Best server I’ve had. Had great drink and food recommendations. Made the experience even better. Food was great!!

So I was able to stop by and actually experience this restaurant from the inside finally. Sunday night, 7:30. As I stated last time, the food is excellent. We had the premium sushi box and a few assorted hand rolls. All excellent. Again my favorite was the Eel Avocado Handroll. They did cheat in calling some scrap pieces of hamachi "Tuna Sashimi". It was just the bits of tuna used for roll sushi stacked in a small pile. Ouch. Most of the staff were very friendly. Our server efficient. The busser had a sour face the whole time and never spoke a word to us. As we left, every FOH staff member thanked us with smiles. We didn't see a manager during our time there. The restaurant looks terrible. Run down. Sloppy. Disorganized. Just behind the host stand (no host working Sunday night) there were at least 8 large bags of dirty linen thrown about, I'm sure waiting to be picked up by their linen service Monday morning. Not the best first impression when you walk in. The open kitchen was a disheveled and just ugly. An open kitchen needs to be spotless, organized, and esthetically pleasing. Especially a sushi kitchen!! This was embarrassing. Also, 3 of the cooks had their masks below their chins. I can't imagine the Itamae being proud of this outlet. All this pointed to ownership apathy. This could be a fantastic restaurant if only it had some front of house leadership. 4 stars for food taste and appearance, and friendly staff.

Kind of disappointed with our experience at The Backhouse. We waited a bit before we were acknowledged by any of the staff to be seated. Once we were met by an employee, he told us we could come in, as if it was our fault for waiting. The bartender and who were assumed were the manager did their best, but service was sub par. We waited for our last sushi roll +15 min after the rest of our rolls came out and had to remind the waiter we were missing items. Our first set of sushi rolls were dropped off, and when we asked the gentlemen who seated us(rudely) what rolls they were he said “I don’t know, dropped them on the bar” and walked away….. food was good, and idk if the one waiter was just having a day, but the attitude was not part of what we ordered and would have been totally ok to 86.

I was informed it was a "tendon". Bought medicine just in case. The rice was dry for the sushi also.

I came for the happy hour and views! The back house is a great spot for those two things haha. Located at pacific city hb, it's upstairs next to H&M. I was able to get parking at the underground structure and validation is free for 2 hours. Upon arrival, it wasn't busy and there was plenty of seats near the window for a view. I was happy to see they had an outside patio area, so I sat there. It was a perfect day out. I came here mostly because I saw a happy hour sign outside and wanted to give it a try since it's from mon-Fri 2-5. We were hungry and ordered a few items. We started with xi mai which was not bad but I wanted more haha. I got the baked crab/ shrimp tempura roll, both were okay imo. It needed more crab or something. Next was the salmon carpaccio, that was good and you can taste the truffle, if you enjoy that. Service was good and came back many times to check or clean up plates. Overall, nice spot to get happy hour and enjoy hb views.

SERVICE Solid. Greeted at a timely matter when we entered. Ordered and checked up on at the right times. No complaints with the service here. FOOD Notably, we ordered the lobster fried rice, soft crab roll. The latter was decent. However, we did notice that the lobster fried rice was kinda weird tasting? Likely frozen lobster as it was sinewy as hell. I knew it wasn't worth it too when I noticed the amount of squash in the rice. Filler vegetables with frozen lobster for almost 30.00 bucks? Interesting choice. Best thing on the menu? The miso soup. Small portion but robust. ATMOSPHERE When we entered we were happily greeted by a server. My boyfriend and I had arrived on a Saturday around 5:00 and there were bags of linens and cloth napkins just haphazardly placed on the seats of one of the first tables you see once you enter. This was probably the changing of shifts but if you're charging the prices you are for food, these details really should align. OVERALL I really do not mind paying for food that's worth it. You're definitely paying for the view and ambiance here. If you want overly priced, decent at best Japanese food at a beautiful location-- then this is your place!

I've been here twice now and have had the same disappointing experience with the same server/manager, Arturo. I give one star for the AMAZING view from the restaurant.. the food is decent but definitely not worth the prices. The service however, is HORRIBLE. We went during happy hour and ordered 4 items from the dim sum menu, a wonton soup, 2 rolls, and 2 carpaccio's at 4:50pm. We received our dim sum items a little after 5pm and thought he was bringing them out a little at a time.. By 5:50 we decided to ask what was taking the rest of the food so long because at that point it had been an HOUR since we ordered. The restaurant was not at all busy and had a total of 3 tables when we placed our order.. Our server, who also happens to be the manager, asked us what else we had ordered. So clearly the food was never sent if he didn't even know what was ordered. We told him all the items that we were still waiting on and explained that it has been an hour since ordering. He did not apologize and did not care in the slightest. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The rest of our food did not arrive until 6:10pm!! Almost an hour and a half after having ordered them!! This server/manager simply does not care and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Location is really great. I was really scared to eat here because of the reviews so I just tried 3 appetizers. Cucumber salad, wings and pork dumpling. Everything was fantastic and excellent service. Next time I will try their sushi

I was craving sushi after a day at the beach and came across The Backhouse when searching for sushi nearby. We parked in the garage (they validate for parking so definitely park in the garage and ask to validate your ticket). The restaurant is located on the second floor with a lot of shops and other restaurants located nearby. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. We wanted to sit outside and we really enjoyed the outdoor patio seating as it overlooks the water. The service was great - server was extremely kind and very attentive to us throughout the meal! :) We ordered a seaweed salad, spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and the sushi box premium. All the food was pretty good, not out-of-this-world sushi but good quality and would definitely come back. The prices are a bit high (but for being right on the water I think it's pretty fair), the sushi could have been a bit more fresh and a better rice-fish ratio would have made the meal better! However, still enjoyed all the food options that they provide and the different boxes where you can sample all kinds of sushi/sashimi is definitely the way to go!

The sushi is fresh and melts in your mouth like butter. We always feel so very welcomed whenever we step foot inside The Backhouse. The service is always excellent and attentive. If you aren't into sushi, fret not, you'll find something you'll like. They've got it all.

I've had better sushi from Ralph's. The location and staff are nice but don't come here expecting a quality meal.

Came here with my motha to get dimsum, but they stop serving early in the day...so we opted for the sushi. Maybe they just botched the rice that day, but it was harder than 9pm grocery store sushi and the fish quality was mediocre at best. If you don't care about putting quality food in your belly, by all means be my guest. Sorry guys, I wanted to like it, atmosphere was nice.

sushi was mediocre for price. the baked salmon roll was really fresh they didn't really have a lot of special rolls. we got seated on the rooftop overlooking hb which was really nice. I think you're paying more for the experience than the food, but it's worth a try.

Hours and menu are not up to date. Does not serve ramen anymore and didn't want to seat us as 8:25pm even though they close at 9pm. We felt like a burden since they asked us to "order fast" and they didn't have the food we wanted, so we left. Not sure if the food was any good.
