Food was nicely prepared and tasty. The pork was fried well but not a huge portion and quite a bit of fat.

I honestly wasn't sure about how the food would turn out because it was located in a commercial center and it was so quiet that I wasn't sure they even had a kitchen. My family and I wanted to try out a variety of soups but they were out of every single one except the Pork Belly Chicken Soup. They were also out of a couple of dishes, which was a bummer and the major reason for the 4/5 stars. Braised Pork Belly: 4/5 Don't get me wrong, this dish was really good but compared to the other dishes it lacked a bit of flavor. I think it could've been a little saltier and a little more tender. It was my first time trying Taiwanese braised pork belly so I'm not too sure about how it's supposed to taste but to me, it was a little bit dry. Mapo Tofu: 5/5 This was the family's favorite! We've never had mapo tofu that was this good. It wasn't as spicy as it looked (at least to me) and it had a nice level of saltiness and umami flavor. The spice level doesn't really pop out to you but if you keep eating it, it has a nice kind of numbing spice (?) I'm not sure how to put it lol. Kung Pao Chicken: 4.5/5 Again, this was the best kung pao chicken I've ever tasted in the OC area. It had the most flavor out of all the dishes. The chicken was not dry at all and was coated evenly in the sauce. It was a little salty in my opinion but if you eat it with some side vegetables, it'll help balance out the saltiness. Stir-Fried Beef: 4/5 This was the most tender stir-fried beef I've ever had. I'm not sure how they even accomplished that as most places have really chewy beef. The flavor wasn't as strong as the other dishes and it tastes like your typical stir-fried beef from a smaller Chinese place. Pork Belly Chicken Soup: 3.5/5 I personally really liked the soup but my family thought it was a little too simple. It wasn't super flavorful and after eating the other dishes, it didn't taste like much. It didn't really have a round flavor profile but it's really light and nice to have after a heavy meal. Overall, this place really is a hidden gem for Taiwanese/Chinese food. My family is pretty sensitive to MSG but they didn't have any issues after eating it so that's a plus as well. I wish we were able to try the Braised Beef Noodle Soup as well but I guess that'll have to wait for next time.

I'm always on the hunt for a good pork chop rice, with pickled mustard greens and other sides (what can I say), and I have finally found a decent place in Irvine! This is tucked away in a corporate plaza (it took us a solid 5-10 minutes to find) and is like going on a little treasure hunt, but the treasure is so worth. The pork chops are sliced thin enough that each piece can go in one bite, but thick enough that it is substantial. And so crisp and flavorful! I can't wait to come back already.

I love pork belly and chicken soup. Delicious and comfort soup. It is in Chinese traditional method cooked with Goji and other chinese ingredients. The soup is white color and tasteful.

This place is so good! I ordered the duck blood vermicelli soup. The bowl looked barren on the surface aside from tofu pieces, but there are plenty of valuable and cooked-to-perfection meats swimming at the bottom of the bowl (I think duck blood, heart, and pork stomach??). I felt full only eating just half of it. The vermicelli noodles are fantastic too and the taste/texture/chewy consistency is just right when you add them to the soup. It's summer now but it'll be perfect in the winter! I hope they'll bring back the spicy mala pig blood/stinky tofu soup too.

I had bookmarked Hui Wei Kitchen for a while since I am a big soup aficionado. Since I happened to be in the area, I decided to check it out. At this time, it is still takeout only. You can order in person in the store though if desired, which is what I did. For a place billed as a Taiwanese restaurant, I was surprised at the amount of simplified Chinese on the menu. =P Unfortunately for me, they were not making most soups on the day of my visit, which was a bummer since I came just for their soups. I ended up ordering the pork rib soup, and was quoted a 20-25 minute wait time. The soup was tasty, but portion perhaps a bit small for the price, and a tad on the saltier side too. I would love to return to try more off the menu when they have their soups again.

1) Popcorn was ok, could be better. A third of the order was garlic. Geez 2 The Spicy crayfish could use more sugar and less salt, way too salty.

This is one of many places inside a big office park, but you can't miss it with the amount of stickers on the door. We got two bento boxes that were filled nicely and they had a deal for free soft drinks when we went. The vibe is very homey and though they aren't 100% efficient, you can tell that the owners really care about the establishment. However, I would say 4 stars because the cuts of meat were kind of fatty and tough and a lot of the vegetarian bento was just rice rather than the tofu. However, I would still come back if I needed a quick meal in the area!

I was feeling under the weather and craving Asian-style hot soup. Ended up stumbling upon hui wei kitchen on Grubhub. Called in and ordered the Pork Belly Chicken Soup (with Rice or Noodle) - $16 for pick up. It was flavorful and comforting, 100% what I was looking for! It came with a generous portion and I was able to get 2 meals out of the soup. However, their official online menu wasn't too helpful. The listed categories and items were inconsistent, some had both Chinese and English descriptions but some only had Chinese. There are a lot of items on their website that are missing from Grubhub, but I found that their Grubhub menu easier to understand. For some reason, I also couldn't find the dish I ordered on their official website menu ?_? it was really confusing. The flavors were authentic to me, will be back to try more items!

I don't usually leave reviews, but this restaurant really made me happy. Their Mala Tang is very authentic. It is rare to find such delicious Mala Tang in America. The service attitude is also very good. It was 11:55pm when we visited and most restaurants were closed, but this one was still open. The girl at the front desk is very professional and friendly. Highly recommend!

Called them four times this on Memorial Day morning- no answer. Their restaurant website/ Google/ and Yelp all says the store is open. Couldn't get through the phone line but online ordering available on all platforms ( including the restaurant website). Since I could not get through their phone line after multiple attempts, I placed the order online. Website says order will be ready in 40 minutes and transection went through. Husband drove 30 minutes there just to find out that THEY ARE CLOSED.It's fine if you are going to be closed on a holiday, but update your info or set up a voicemail properly. Also please closed down your ordering system if you are going to be open! Poor business operation.... This is a pretty big no for me. Most likely won't me returning. Now I gotta call the credit company to dispute this charge.. smhMy advise to you, call before ordering, if you can't get through probably just order somewhere else. Their online ordering is completely unreliable.* Response to owner:No one said you cannot take the day off to honor the veterans and active military personnel. The point is to reflect your hours on these major websites/ apps or simply shut down your online ordering for the day of.Enough said. Sometimes a simple apology and just taking some accountability go a long way! Best luck to you

Located in commercial center, it's hard to imagine a kitchen that serves Taiwanese take out is here! Phillip L. and I were craving some Taiwanese food and found this place on Yelp. They're normally open from 11am - 7:30pm, and they are take out only! Their bento boxes are $14-17 and packed with proteins and veggies. Pretty filling and delicious! Some of our favorites: - Signature red yeast fried pork belly ($15.99) - Fried shrimp roll ($15.99) - Stewed pork chop ($13.99) If you're looking for some Taiwanese take out, check this place out!
