Received 1/2 dozen cupcakes as a gift. They were varying stages of freshness with some being stale and some being perfectly moist. Lots of classic flavors.

Came by on a rainy morning to grab a quick bite as I saw good reviews on the ham and cheese croissant. It was a bit disappointing and I wish it was warmed up at least. Coffee was also super mid! Seems more like they specialize in cakes!

I like the butter crossiant. Pretty light and airy. Stopped by on a whim since I have something to do in the area. Prices are reasonable but they are out of dollar bills, soi got a bunch of coins. Flat white is pretty strong, which is to my likingw

I ordered the larger 8" tiramisu cake which came out to nearly $50 for a special night with my girlfriend. It was wildly disappointing and just tasted like moist sponge cake with whipped cream. There was no coffee/espresso flavor nor the richness of the marscapone. My girlfriend just put down her slice after two bites and had a look of disappointment on her face. I did the same. I could have gotten any cake from Costco or Ralphs that would taste dramatically better than this. I felt ripped off.

This little shop is located on Barrance and it is a hidden gem. I came here on a weekday and it isn't as busy but their pastries are delicious. I got their almond croissant and it was quite good. I also got their ham and cheese croissant and it was OK. I think the pastried would taste better if it was toasted a bit. Staff was OK. Plenty of parking in the strip mall area.

We came for a gluten free birthday cake. Had a cookie and coffee while we waited for it to be packaged. The selection was a bit sparse but everything tasted fantastic and the service was smiling and lovely. Pricey-yes.

Cakes look really good, but when asked about the presence of soy in the gluten-free products, I was given a non-answer answer of "it could maybe" which isn't helpful if you have an allergy. Usually a manager steps out to help ask questions in situations like this, but that wasn't the case. The employee just gave me the run around so I am not particularly impressed. If you're going to offer gf products, you should anticipate that the people who have those allergies typically have multiple food allergies so you should list the ingredients...

Great bakery/cafe in Irvine! I came in this afternoon and although it was quite busy, the staff provided excellent service. The strawberry cake slice is delicious and huge(!) and their matcha latte uses high-quality matcha! Worth visiting again!

We ordered a white cake with buttercream icing. We were told it was and had confetti on the outside. The cake was a 6 inch cake and it cost $42.00. The cake was pretty on the outside and presented well. However, the cake frosting was inedible. The cake itself was ok, somewhat moist. It was so disappointing. I left it out the recommended 30 min prior to serving. As I began to cut the cake, the frosting was so hard that it crumbled and would not cut it just caved in on the cake. I would never order a cake from them again. We wasted $42.00 plus tax and had to throw the whole thing out without eating it.

Writing this review as I'm devouring this piece of cake. Wow, just WOW! I got the strawberry shortcake and it's soooo goood! It's moist, delicious filling, not too sweat, packed with strawberries I'm obsesseeddd. I just wish they would make matcha flavor cakes like this ready to go. The piece of cake was $7 and the cafe was incredibly clean and a great place to do homework.

We have ordered from Layer Cake many times, and the results are often hit-and-miss. When you come in and get a fresh croissant or scone, the pastries are fantastic. When you order ahead, sometimes you get something that tastes like it has been in the fridge for weeks. Recently, I ordered a cake for a certain date about a week ahead, and when I called three or four days before I was supposed to pick it up to make a small change, they told me it was already made (and even said I could come pick it up!) Not surprisingly, the cake ended up being dry and hard. Then, this past weekend I ordered cupcakes and I wanted one set for our small family party on Saturday, and a larger set for a bigger party on Sunday, so I made two separate orders, hoping that Sunday's would be fresh from Sunday (not leftover from Saturday or whenever). When I came on Saturday to pick up the cupcakes for Saturday, they handed me both orders! Of course the cupcakes for Sunday were rather dry, and definitely not worth the price I paid. For the prices they charge, they really need to put an emphasis on freshness. In the future, I would only come here for the daily made stuff and skip anything pre-ordered. Wish I could write a more positive review!

Came here for the scone. I loved them when I tried them at a local coffee shop that mentioned they are from this location. I have to say they are the best scones I have ever tried 10/10. I also got a red velvet cake that is $7.25 and it's a 8/10. ... I've had better red velvet cake. Service was ok. We had to wait 10 min for the cashier to finish a conversation on the phone with a costumer that ... honestly ended up with just email us for a quote. But we patiently waited since I was bragging to my daughter about the scones. I really wanted her to try them. The decoration of the shop is cute with sitting in and out.

My parents used to buy me a red velvet cake from here for my birthday every year. Today my Mom and I bought a slice of red velvet cake for old times sake. We were quite disappointed as the cake slice was really dry and was definitely not worth the $7. Service was prompt and the server was friendly. I would recommend this bakery for cake orders (usually nicely decorated and tasty) but I can't speak too highly on their goods on display.
