“Small and cozy - gives modern cabin vibes We did the 6 course menu (note that this menu will no longer be available after week after my posting - it will just be the 10 course menu with both wagyu and chicken) Thought the portion sizes were great and was honestly stuffed at the end Food: Avocado toast [5/5]: very nice japanese twist on a breakfast staple. The miso soaked bread is delicious and surprisingly pairs very well with the mint leaves on top Kampachi [5/5]: fish is super fresh, liked the pickled radish on top but honestly couldn't really tell they were pickled (doesn't have that sour-briney taste), broth was also fantastic. Simple and tasty :) Crispy pork belly [5/5]: i loveeeed this - probably one of the best pork belly i've had. Skin is super crispy but not oily and doesn't feel fatty. It's succulent, juicy, and really yummy with the miso sauce Trout [3.5/5]: 3.5 because i'm just not a huge fan of the fish itself, and it tasted like most other trouts i've had. However, the skin is super crispy and definitely smokey (if you like smoked salmon with dill, this will 100% be your cup of tea) Chicken [4/5]: super crispy smokey skin, the ginger miso bbq (?) sauce was very yummy as well. I thought part of the chicken breast was slightly overcooked but overall very juicy. Also comes with a side of baked sweet potatoes with furikake -- soooo yummy, sweet, and creamy. Maybe a little too much furikake imo - was quite salty and I would've been happy with just a sprinkle Pecan pie [5/5]: yummy! Loved the sakuru cream they paired with it, super light and floral, went well with the pecan pie that had a dash of hennessy“

We had the sushi Mi appetizer - awesome! Edamame so good! And 4 different Bento boxes with tempura - teriyaki steak and teriyaki chicken All were soooo good The restaurant is clean - the service is good and the pricing is fair for where we are So not hesitate to try this wonderful hidden gem!“

“This has been one our go to sushi restaurant in town for the last 5 years. Love the atmosphere, especially in the summer on the patio. I love the variety of fish, but they still don't have my favorite sweet shrimp. The chefs are really nice and try to accommodate as long as it's not busy for them. the fish is always fresh and the food is great quality. You don't get real Japanese sushi chefs, but that's okay... Seems that's a dying thing in California as it seems to be similar in soCal. Everyone is always nice, but I am giving it only 4 starts because this is literally the only restaurant in Truckee and Tahoe that I frequent that I don't get into conversation with the staff. My kids are always making a comment about how I am friends with everyone in every restaurant we go to. Most of the Staff have been there for years which is a good sign that they like their jobs, but I cannot accuse them of being a warm, outgoing bunch. They do their job and that seems to be about it. but I will still go. My other go to is Maki Ali and while their menu doesn't have as much variety, I always feel they are happy to see me. The chefs strike up a conversation and the owner is a sweet gem who works hard. I don't think I've ever seen the owners at Drunken Monkey.“
