Stefan at UCSD Catering was extremely helpful when my fiancée and I began planning our wedding at the Martin Johnson House on the Scripps Campus.Of the approved caterers, Stefan was one of few to immediately have a detailed conversation with me about the ins and outs of the venue, what potential options and setups could be, and how to compare pricing/offerings from different caterers. When we built a menu and proposal, communication was prompt and efficient. We were able to try different set up options, mix and match from the existing menu and modify plates to fit with what we were going for.Pricing on the menu was labeled per person, so it was super easy and transparent to see what the costs would be if we added or removed items. The proposal was also very clear on food cost, vs. staff cost, vs other fees.Compared to other vendors, UCSD's proposal looked like the best quality to price combo.Ultimately, we did not go with UCSD catering only because we were on a tight timeline and felt more comfortable going with an all-in-one catering solution. However, if you have the time (or a coordinator) I'd recommend the combo of UCSD Catering, Bella Beverage Catering, and Cedar and Pine Rentals.

UC San Diego Catering is a staple at lectures and events on this UC campus. UCSD often has interesting talks that are open to the public, often offering food as part of a networking event, where participants can talk to the speaker, and meet other attendees. This catering company accepts orders online and serves the UCSD campus. The food will often consist of appetizers, hors d'oevres, and a simple bar. They typically have two long tables and the bar table, each covered in black cloth. A spinache-artichoke-cheese dip is usually included. The dip is nice, the mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and cream are a foil to the avocado and spinach. The artichoke brings some acidity to the dip. I also had a veggie flatbread pizza and beef-mushroom sliders. The flatbread was light, the mix of veggies made for a complex, well balanced flavor. The sliders were tasty too.
