A dark, small restaurant in the back of a shopping center, the staff was unaccommodating. We had a few apps and cocktails and then went to Oyster and Pearl next door for a much better experience.

My husband and I went to this place for a date night on Sunday, from the moment we arrived the staff was very friendly and attentive. We both ordered margaritas which were delicious. We ordered the egg rolls, masa dumplings, duck fried rice, Brussels sprouts, scallop skewers, and 2oz A5 wagyu. The meat was amazing! So buttery and delicious. All the food was delicious, we over ordered but I have no regrets because it was so hard to decide what not to get. The portions were decent size and everything came out quickly. I felt like the prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food we received. We will be going back with some friends so we can order more items next time.

Try the “meat sweats” amazing!! There’s cool secret cocktails too. We also found a secret room that’s only for a secret chefs counter reservation- kinda

Food here is mediocre; the meat didn’t seem fresh or of high quality, the frying pan’s oil likely needed a refresh, and the flavors of the dishes were not well balanced. Cocktails were interesting but not sophisticated. Given the quality of this food, the dishes were extremely overpriced. We visited at 8:30 PM on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant did not have any other customers. On top of that, I did not feel welcomed by the waiter who didn’t seem amused that we walked even though we had a reservation. The bartender was friendly though. Great ambiance and relaxing vibe.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at Izakaya Maize for Valentine's Day. We have been to a lot of restaurants both locally and regionally, and this place has easily become one of our top restaurants we've been to. The Valentine's menu was amazing! Our favorite BY FAR was the Wagyu Sliders - words cannot describe how amazing it was. There was not one dish that was disappointing. The atmosphere was cozy, intimate, and clean, and all of the waiters were very attentive and polite. The chef/owner was super friendly making sure everyone was taken care of. I highly recommend this place for a casual, upscale date night!

This place tries too hard. The quality of the meats is good and the bartender made nice drinks. But the food was salty and the scallop skewer was what it is: a single scallop cut into three pieces. High prices for Izakaya is expected; I received the high prices but I didn't receive the Izakaya. This review may be offensive but pales in comparison to the smell of SEWAGE wafting through this tiny restaurant. I assure you the smell was more offensive than my review of a restaurant that embodies the definition of "all sizzle and no steak". There's a reason why other reviews say this place has tables even after making a reservation (which required a credit card). San Diego has great food, this place ain't it.

We heard about this restaurant from the recent San Diego eater article. We loved our experience here. Our server was great and knowledgeable about our drinks and food. The cocktails were spot on. The Japanese sunrise was excellent and the carajillo was the best I’ve ever had. The wagyu sliders were our favorite for the night, highly recommend. We also loved the duck fried rice and the wagyu skewers. We are definitely coming back

Phenomonal food, creative cocktails, and great service. Doesn't look like much from outside, but the ambience inside is pretty nice. Highly recommend.

The most delicious food with incredible and well thought-out flavors and presentation. Great customer service too! We went on a whim and got a seat at the bar but in the future, we will book a reservation as it's required to get a table. It was little difficult to hear the bartender but we had a wonderful date night and this is definitely our new spot for the most amazing food and drinks. Even the mocktails were delicious! We could've stayed all night ordering each thing on the menu.

Incredible! My husband and I found this place on a whim and were seated at the bar (tables are only for reservations). Absolutely delicious food, drinks and service. We are already looking at reserving a table for the near future. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Crab cakes will be on their menu soon and they were the best I have ever had. And get the dessert, the Mexican chocolate dessert was incredible.

Trying to call about a reservation and they reject the phone call every time. Extremely frustrating and terrible service.

HIDDEN GEM ALERT! Outstanding service, outstanding quality of food, you can’t taste the passion that the chef puts into it. Cocktails/Mocktails are equally delicious and a perfect match. Well thought out menu. Good for brunch, date night or a night out with friends. Intimate setting. Lower prices in comparison. Foodies will love this place. I’m returning until I try everything on the menu:)Parking: Don’t let the fact that there’s not a huge parking lot deter you! It’s free! I’ve never not found a space..Wheelchair accessibility: The chef/owner is very accommodating to all that come in and will make you comfortable

The service is very good. They oddly did not let us sit at a table even though many were open. We stayed almost till closing and no one else came to the tables. The cocktails were good but all of the food was heavily salted.
