One star for customer service. I come here multiple times a week and baristas are never welcoming nor friendly except for maybe one or two. Today I had an online order. They don't make it til you get there so we checked in and proceeded to wait. After about 10-15 min I noticed people coming in after us were receiving their order so my sister nicely inquired about the online order..the barista yelled rudely that our order pickup was for 11:05 currently it was 11:08 after we inquired it came out right after. This isn't the first time this has happened and it's unfortunate because I enjoy the coffee. Go to kindness and mischief 2 stores down.

Great coffee, great food menu, awesome space. When the weather is comfortably warm I really like their back patio. Pastries and breakfast burritos are excellent.

Ambiance was nice and there was ample seating. Service was semi-quick on a Saturday afternoon. I got The Figueroa and it just tasted like milk with a hint of cinnamon at the very end. I didn't taste any espresso which was pretty disappointing. Maybe their core drinks are better but I definitely wouldn't get this drink again.

Only took one star off from my Yelp review, but that doesn't feel fair. I still go here pretty regularly (once a week or so), but it's absolutely INFURIATING every time that I have to use my cell phone hotspot to get internet. There are a dozen tables inside, plus eight or ten stools by the window, PLUS a dozen picnic tables on a patio out back, most under a pavilion for rainy days. It's not like they're hurting for space to turnover customers.Provide basic services in your business.

Good iced latte with friendly service. There was a decent amount of seating inside, with a nice high ceiling. There was a lot of outdoor seating at the back, under a canopy for shade. Also somehow one of the few coffee shops with a restroom.

Beautiful experience and amazing coffee 100% of the time. Anytime I move into a new neighborhood, I marry a new coffee shop. I moved into Highland Park October 2023 and while I dated several other coffee shops in the neighborhood, Civil quickly became my official boo! The staff is amazing and so is the quality of the coffee. I buy coffee beans from them at least once a week and I stop by a few times a week for a quick latte or americano when I'm in need of an espresso pick me up. Until I move into a new neighborhood (which won't be for a long while) I am in a committed relationship with Civil.

As usual I always give great stars and a killer review! This is not the cafes fault, this is the fault of a man. I was asked to coffee and being stood up by this individual felt oddly familiar .. why you ask? So simple. He - did - this - before... 9 years to be exact. And I , I completely forgot!!! A serial stander up-er!!!! Before it was worst. In fact- he did this at the movies. Can you believe it. We even discussed the ick. And yet - 9 years later, and still pulling this shit-- I'm assuming he loves grip tape for a skateboard, a cool non discrete neighborhood and a gal like me but an early 20s gal Y2K anything (so vintage ) - good luck idiots!! we all change in our Saturn returns - Pay attention.

They will treat you like actual garbage, which is a yum for some—regardless, 80% of the time the bev is delicious. 20% of the time it’s lacking confidence or generosity. They just need a scale to guarantee accurate to recipe, and hire more poor people that won’t yell at the locals Edit: omg I’m drooling at how dramatic the business’s comment responses are. Why did I post? Am I a sucker for punishment too? Kinky but don’t think that they are aware of that… consent is lacking a little bit on their part.

I was in the Highland Park area to take videos for some content, and I found Civil Coffee. It was a more sophisticated coffee shop, and it had so many spaces inside and outside to lounge at! It was the perfect spot to do some work or relax. The workers were helpful, and their coffee was good. I wish I tried a different type of syrup, but I can always try it next time.
