The food is good but the serving staff don't understand what it means to serve customers in a timely manner both with orders over the phone and in person. But the chefs in the back rock

Ordered the super combo plate (pastor taco, chicken enchilada) and the wife got the pastor quesadilla. Was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was and aesthetically pleasing.

Carlos is the man! I love Jan or tacos because the food is always delicious, fresh, and they have really great specials every day. Do yourself a favor and stop by oh and they support UC Merced!

So there is this wall that says "vegan menu" however they put cheese in your beans. I would not recommend this place at all. Apparently they do not know what vegan is. Aside from that I went to go tell the girl with glasses at the register and she said yes they have cheese. I specifically said on the wall it says vegan menu. How is that menu and continued to say that if I wanted vegan cheese that would be extra cost. Which what vegan wants cheese on their food. This is sad to see they are advertising vegan food yet you can tell they are very ignorant when it comes to the term vegan. The tacos were cold and the tofu was too crunchy like they had just reheated it in a microwave. In other terms the food is trash. Rice was cold as well.

Pretty good, not my absolute favorite for Mexican food but definitely not horrible. Give them a try...

I tried this place for the first time the other day. It was okay. I got a burrito which was great until there was a piece of hair from the cook in it. Unfortunately I won't be going back. I prefer a few other Mexican restaurants. Thank you.

I enjoyed the meal; it was simple but good, and it reminded me of home. However, if there were more Mexican restaurants in Merced, this would perhaps be a 3 star review because in my experience with Mexican restaurants, J & R would be pretty average. I do wish there were better representatives of Mexican cuisine in the US, but I understand that it is hard to operate these types of businesses. On the other hand, Merced is positioned perfectly to host multiple farm-to-table style restaurants and the market has simply not been tapped into. Service was friendly, but the restaurant does look old.Vegetarian options: Multiple vegetarian optionsParking: Parking is practically at the doorstep

Cashier was friendly super nice, helped us out ! The food on the other hand was not the best. I feel terrible to write a review but honestly the pastor tacos were oily, the sauce on top tasted and looked like the scraps from the grill. The tortilla was see thru with oil. The pastor tasted like barbecue lays. Like i’m so serious. Also got some enchiladas. Tasted like ragu. The spaghetti sauce. Just that.Just a suggestion to the owner i think maybe just look for recipes bestieThis place is niceatmosphere is nice !Service is niceFood is not great.Very prettyI just tried two options from the menu so i’m not sure i’m to judge. There was a vegan option that seemed super appetizing but i felt since they put pinapple on top it would be good :,) Thanks for reading this will helptry the vegan burrito maybe idk

Driving past Merced, trying to find a good vegetarian or vegan restaurant. Pleasantly surprised to find this place in the middle of Main St., Merced. The vegetarian and vegan options were abundant and not the standard fare. Everything tasted homemade and very fresh. I've had better Mexican, but this place is up there! The inside of the restaurant is nicely kept, doesn't feel like a hole in the wall. would absolutely go back, and recommend for friends. my friend had the vegetarian enchilada plate with the beans and rice. I had the Molé over grilled veggies with the beans and rice and the corn tortillas. and they were able to give us vegan cheese!

Food was great, however I did notice that they displayed the Ghey Flag, and I was very offended. As I am a man of many cultures, I lack to see why that flag is flying, and not flags of other importance,And for that reason, I will no longer do business there again, until that flag comes down.
