Oh...My...Goodness...this place has BY FAR the best bento boxes Ive ever had. Period. Ever. I personally got their pork belly bento box and when I tell you the flavors melted in my mouth man it melted in my mouth. I never thought Id fall in love with food until I had the pork belly bento box...

Dragon Roll - 9/10. Delicious and came out super fast; a classic roll that you can't go wrong with. 15pc sashimi - 10/10. The fish is so fresh and the pieces are huge! The presentation on the spiral stand was also a visual plus. Salmon Kama (collar) Bento Box - 8/10. The portion was 2x more than what we expected! The price is also very reasonable. Because they didn't skimp out on the salmon portions, that sealed the deal for us in deciding that this will become our new fav regular spot. Complaints: the bento box rice was very stale and hard to bite through :( the miso soup was also too salty even after we tried adding hot water to it. tldr: No-frills sushi spot with great prices and good portions for delicious food.

As we were so happy with our last visit, my son and I return for lunch today. This place really is a hidden gem. The spicy chicken bento was great, and the spicy salmon roll add-on was really good as well made from nice chunks of salmon and not ground up random bits. Service was really excellent too, as the young man who waited on us was almost too nice and polite!

Poor quality sushi. Definitely wasn’t fresh fish. The rolls we had seemed like they were pre-made and stored in a fridge before they were topped off with sauces to serve. I’d compare the quality to gas station sushi.

The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because the restaurant itself is super sad and grey. There's no decor and looks like a small off business turned into a restaurant. I often doordash it anyway haha. HOWEVER. The food is amazing and decently priced. It was around $9.99 to $13.99 per roll whereas the pricing for sushi has increased for the general area, PLUS the rolls are so good. They have a great variety to choose from and they don't all taste the same! My favorite was the dragon roll and bang bang shrimp. Our server was also quick and attentive refilling our waters often. Will come back again!

Kakuna Sushi is hands down my new go-to sushi spot, and it's a hidden gem that everyone should discover! Nestled in a cozy hole-in-the-wall setting, it's a delightful find that won't break the bank. What sets it apart is not just the affordability but the freshness of the sushi - a true win for sushi enthusiasts. Personally, I can't get enough of their Crunchy Mango Roll - a perfect balance of textures and flavors that keeps me coming back for more. The bento boxes are a real treat; not only are they incredibly filling, but each bite is a burst of deliciousness. The variety and quality of their offerings make this spot a standout. I highly recommend giving this place a try!

I had a great experience at this restaurant as a vegetarian. Their Vegetarian Crunch roll was delightful and another roll with pink rice paper wrap, but it's worth noting that BOTH the rolls are topped with Spicy Mayo, which contains EGGS. As some or most vegetarians avoid eggs, it's essential to clarify this when ordering. I recommend asking for the roll without spicy mayo or suggesting clearer labeling to the restaurant. I made the mistake to not clarify what the sauce was made of and accidentally ate a roll with mayo );

Good, fresh sushi and teriyaki at extremely reasonable (post-Covid) prices. I especially love the lunch deal where special/deluxe rolls are buy one get one! I order to go often because my office is around the corner, but eat in is fine too. The location is small but I've always gotten a seat at lunch time. Can't go wrong with their chicken or salmon teriyaki, plus the bento includes rice, salad, miso soup, and gyoza. Definitely worth the time to give this place a go.

I came here with a friend twice. I regretted coming here both times. Because of the high reviews it had me wanting to try it badly. I totally forgot this place the second time, i was craving sushi and decided to come here. Their sushi taste too plain.

I'm not sure if they were having a bad day, but the sushi was really bad. The rice was so so mushy, definitely overcooked and would be blobby. I wish I had a photo of the rice close up. The sushi was also cut so unevenly, some pieces way bigger and some were way smaller. Service was okay too, they confused the scallop nigiri for a scallop roll. Kind of disappointing

I've tried Kakuna in Fremont during COVID peak pandemic times and saw online that the Milpitas location seemed to have better presentation. We walked in for lunch around 11:30 and had a great experience. I would definitely come back for a casual sushi meal. - nigiri moriwase: I would definitely order this again. The best ones were the tuna, hamachi, salmon, mackerel, and one photographed at the top left. The cuts were thick and overall, great quality. I wish escolar wasn't served for how unhealthy it is, the shrimp was underwhelming, and the unagi's sauce was weirdly sugary sweet. But still a great set overall. - spicy scallop roll: pass- a lot of rice and no flavor - gaijin roll: one of the best I've had! A must try. My only nitpick is that the rice was a bit wet and sticky.

Love the variety of options there are. One of the things that stood to me was the boujee roll. We got a variety of rolls and everything was fresh! I had to get the bento with salmon collar. I'll definitely be coming and trying their other rolls and Nigiri Moriawase!

Absolutely the BEST Japanese food around!! This is a tiny storefront restaurant with ample parking. You may have to wait for a table or share with strangers, which is what we witnessed. We were three, we ordered two bentos to share (chicken and ribs), salmon skin roll, sweetheart roll, citrus roll (my fave), Shrimp baked with tobiko. It was a lot AND we had leftovers! It was just so good. Servers were nice. They refilled our water a lot. I can't wait to return.

Kakuna Sushi opened where Al Alazan Grill & Taqueria once was. Greeted & seated upon entry. Minimal decor. Cafeteria type seating. Soft vocals music. Offerings: bento boxes, ramen, sushi, sashimi, donburi, many types of sushi rolls.. Eats: Deluxe Chirashi (35.95) served over vinegared rice. -22 pieces of selected fish/eats: seaweed, tamago, scallop, hamachi, ebi, hirame, butterfish, albacore, unagi, toro tuna?, scottish salmon?.. *server didn't know fish served. Didn't ask kitchen.. -no soup nor salad. Fish slices generous, some melt in mouth quality. Others were thawed from 'fridge grade.. -wasabi semi hot, vinegared sushi rice excellent, took leftovers to eat later. 4.5 stars good variety of quality fish, semi thick slices..
