Finally got to try out Orenodon, and I was so pleasantly surprised at what a little gem this restaurant is! They offer quite a selection of bento boxes with unagi, gyu (beef), chicken teriyaki, mapo tofu, and much more, which all come with an equally impressive selection of side dishes. Overall, solid bento boxes that are fresh and generous in portions. Some of the dishes were overly salty (e.g. mapo tofu), and others were rather under seasoned (cucumbers, chicken teriyaki), but my parents and I loved the potato salad and hard boiled egg. The side dishes aren't the most authentic either, and definitely remind me more of Korean ban Chan, but I loved how there were so many options overall. They also do a really good job of packaging! I received my order through Chowbus approximately one hour after the restaurant finished preparing, and all of the bento boxes were still warm and ready-to-eat, without being soggy. Overall, definitely a solid option if you want takeout/delivery bentos, but I would not go out of my way to dine in here, especially with so many more amazing Japanese restaurants in the Bay.

Delicious food, quick service, and kind staff.

Small but fantastic don place! Trying out the food for the first time, I did not expect the quantity of the food to be so much but both quality and quantity were great! The unagi was cooked fairly well with a nice sweet taste to it while the teriyaki chicken was tender. The Katsu don was also a bit sweet from the eggs but hefty portion of eggs to katsu made it very filling.

FOOD == (4.4/5) This place has high quality eels which has some kind of umami sauce. Goes great with everything in the box and is a good serving size for one person. Not a fan of potato salad though. VIBES == (4/5) The last time I came here was in the pandemic so all the chairs and table was up. I would assume that it would be tidy and clean. However, there might be little room to work with.

I've ordered from Orenodon quite a few times off of DoorDash, but I've never visited the actual restaurant location up until yesterday afternoon. The space is quite large, and has a very simplistic dark blue and gray interior that is very pleasing to the eyes. They are still take out only, which I wish wasn't the case as the space looks great and I look forward to being able to dine-in here. I ordered the Gyudon and Roast Beef Don. I much preferred the Gyudon to the Roast Beef Don, but it may be because I'm partial to Gyudon's. The takeout bento was a decent portion with edamame, potato salad, egg, sausage, kimchi, noodles, rice, and the entree. I was pretty filled with the portion size, so I'm quite happy about that. Orenodon is very reasonably priced with a good portion size, but I do wish they offered dine in and a larger menu. I will definitely continue to order my takeout orders here, and will probably visit again if I'm in the area.

I enjoy my food, kinda pricey but u get a lot of side dishes. They’re doing take out only right now. I got the katsudon with extra jammy egg, total cane to $~16.58

Since Fuji closed this has been my goto for neighborhood sushi. They have a good menu, decent service and fresh fish. Don't recommend garlic edemame though.

I am impressed. You know those bento box that Japanese school kids have in animes? Well I've never had them, but this is exactly how I imagined they would taste like. I got the unagi and gyu don. The portion was just right. The unagi was probably not the quality you'd find in high-end restaurants but for a bento shop it's pretty good. The beef was a bit too sweet for me but there's plenty of rice to go with it. The side dishes were the best part. Each one had a really delicate taste.

KISS* with approval from Cantonese moms. This was an attractive place. A clean, simple interior with a dark blue background, an open kitchen if you are over 6 ft tall, and for accent a small table with a dried tree branch. It's takeout-only season. The menu is simple, rice or noodle. -------------- Rice The donburi are served as a bento -the menu says teishoku, AKA meal set. I don't know the difference, but I do like. Along with your main donburi course, you get half a seasoned egg -jammy center; half a small sausage -Berkshire pork, I believe; japchae; Japanese mashed potato salad; 3 edamame pods; and veggies -omakase. For the veggie, I've had the cucumber- lightly dressed, Asian dressed- and the blanched choy-sum/ yu-choy. Sounds wrong, but when you're Cantonese, it reminds you of home... Everyone of us grew up with a plate of blanched greens, often choy sum, on the dinner table, often blanched. The main course is yet another example of KISS. Just do what works. Nothing fancy. Katsu-don, pork belly, gyu, mmmm, Japanese classics, and so heartwarming. They also have a roast beef don, which exists in Japan and was also good. Just simple, good food, classics done right, no BS. Any of these are good choices. They also have teriyaki chicken and unagi. Give them a try if you like. Do watch out for the bone going down the center of the unagi. It's safe to eat, but might ruin your experience. The teriyaki chicken might be marinated in house with additional ginger, but flavors were muddled. I assume it was the cooking process today. -------------- Noodle Noodle wise, I've had their Nagasaki champon. I don't know what it's about, and now that Ringer Hut** on Saratoga Road is gone, this is the only place I know where it is served. Authentic? No idea, but it's hearty noodle soup with meat and vegetables. Give it a try. The noodles here come with 2 pieces of inari sushi on the side. Best inari sushi I've had... Granted I don't go out of the way to have them. -------------- I love this place. It's good food, simple food, homey food, healthy enough that you can have all the time. Oh yeah, their service is fast. (As the figure on the wall would suggest) *Keep It Simple, Silly **Honestly, Ringer Hut is not a name that will bring people in. Why would I want Japanese food at a place called Ringer Hut? Doesn't sound Japanese, never heard of such a chain. Also, hut??? When I think Japanese, I'm not expecting a hut, especially a culture that eats raw fish.

This small mom and pop shop was one of the places my girlfriend and I discovered and heavily frequented during the pandemic (like almost twice a week lol). It's a hidden gem located in the back of a small shopping plaza. The service is always friendly and we are always greeted warmly and with a smile. The food is like a bento style with different choices of entrees and they all have rice, edamame, potato salad, and others. They also sometimes mix it up by adding a different side dish every once in a while. They also have different types of udon which we indulge in on cold days. We've gone so much that we have tried almost everything on their menu. Our favorite is the Pork Belly Don and the Mapo Tofu Don. The food tastes as if it were made with love and it brings me memories of my parents' restaurant during my childhood.

Overall very unsatisfying. The pork katsu was a bit too salty and the sides (cucumber slices, 3 pcs edamame, glass noodles, potato salad, half of a soft boiled egg) were all meh except maybe the potato salad was decent. Fine for a quick bite but not exactly cheap either ($13 katsudon). If you're looking for something more authentic Japanese this is probably not it.

Happen to walk by this place while searching for food and I figure "hey. Why not." went in and the menu on the board seems limited. There was a roast beef rice bowl that initially ordered but there was a bigger menu when you get to the counter. I changed my order from the roast beef to the gyu don and that was the right call. Gyudon was very tasty and it paired well with the rice. Came in a bento box so the presentation looked good. Came with an extra egg, salad, potato salad noodles and cucumber to complement the richness of the rice. Would highly recommend this place to other people

Go here for some great Japanese bento rice dishes. It’s surprisingly great!

We ordered a Unagi Don and Teriyaki chicken. The quantity of unagi and chicken were really small. Because it was the first time here so we went back to ask if they made mistakes on my order. The business owner immediately became offensive and extremely rude. We were trying to explain the issue, he wouldn't even let me talk and started yelling at us and saying some customers may get a bigger fish portion and some others may get a smaller one, this makes no sense as we all pay the same price for the menu.

Ordered from the Chowbus app, and picked up in store. I ordered these bento boxes: Teriyaki Chicken w. Gyu Don - flavorful chicken over rice, liked the soft boiled egg Katsu Don - eggy and lots of flavor! Overall, this Japanese place is pretty good and I'd come back to try their other items! Great portion size too and very filling.
