“I’m just sitting here at 1am with insomnia thinking about this place. I had a craving for Afghan food the other day so I did a little search and this appeared. Got a lamb shank for the spouse and a chicken platter for myself and now I crave more. Soft bread, perfect rice, savory bits of chicken and cumin spiced chickpeas were all quickly devoured. Likewise with the lamb shank dish. What did Modesto do to deserve a place like this?Only thing to note is the dining room isn’t immediately obvious from the store front. Don’t feel like you’re in the wrong place if you go in and all you see is market shelves. Just turn immediately left and then you’ll be in the dining area. I went ahead and grabbed a bag of Polish milk fudge while I was waiting there. Love little finds like this.“

“I had an exceptional dining experience at Mayar Restaurant in Northern California and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Afghani cuisine. The services provided by Mr. Sadeq, and other team members at Mayar Restaurant, were outstanding, making our visit truly memorable. The highlight of our meal was the Qabeli Palaw, a flavorful and aromatic dish that left us craving for more. The Kabob was also a delight, perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection.Overall, Mayar Restaurant exceeded my expectations with its excellent food quality, cozy ambiance, and top-notch service. I look forward to visiting again soon!“

“The food here is VERY delicious and very authentic. It’s very high-quality and tasty. The Mantu, the Bolani, the daal, chicken kabob, soup , everything we had was very tasty and did not disappoint. They also make the bread themselves which is very delicious and fresh. They also make their own yogurt and sauces. Everything is made from scratch and authentic.“

“Only down side is I Could barley communicate with the 2 people working there, they didn't speak much English but I managed to order some food. The food was extremely delicious and the flavors were very bold, I could tell this was as authentic as it gets. 10/10 would recommend and I will be coming back. It's great to be able to enjoy food from other culture without having to leave the country“

“This is one of those places you drive by to fast you will miss it. This store is eclectic from hot food to seasonal fruits and vegetables, to unique housewares and groceries. They mainly cater to the growing Afghan community with it being a one stop shop but all is welcome. You can buy a kabob plate or hot fresh tanoor bread that tastes so good. They carry Afghan rugs, fancy carafs and tea sets, fancy serveware, seasonings galore, frozen food and Vimto! For those who know, Vimto syrup is so hard to find. The store seems over packed with the growing demand from the increasment of clientele. I find communicating difficult when I call over the phone to ask a question when someone from the back kitchen answer the phone. If you would like to explore a new place, this would be a great spot.“

“Really nice spot. They have an in-house butcher that was in late during the day so that he could cut me some custom cut one and a half inch thick ribeye. Really reasonable prices at the butcher and they have very low prices on cow and beef heart and liver which I often times enjoy. Nice staff highly recommend.“

“I thought I would try this place today. I've been in the store next door that makes bread before. What a wonderful smell of baked bread. Today I had a chance to eat food. OH man ! It was much better than I anticipated! I don't know if I was just lucky , but Abdul went next door and got fresh hot bread for me. He started me out with a nice garden salad. Then I ordered the Mantu. It was very very good ! It was ground seasoned beef balls wrapped in a very thin dough that reminded me of dim sum dumplings. Topped with tomato, onion, yogurt ... I don't know all of the ingredients but I loved it. The bread was still warm from the oven. It was nicely crisp on the outside. I never had that particular bread before. I loved that too ! He served it with a homemade green salsa that was tangy and hot. I love hot and spicy. If you don't like anything hot then don't try it. My wife was working so I went by myself. I can't wait to bring her here. The prices are very fair. A lot of food, and honestly, I think there must have been at least five dollars worth of pine nuts on it. Those are not cheap. Abdul was very accommodating and told me if I wanted more bread or anything to just ask.“

“This is hands down the best pizza I've had since I left the East Coast 20 years ago.The crust has a good flavor and is neither too thick nor too thin, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese, the slightest sheen of grease but not overly greasy. Never had a burnt or doughy pie from here, they've all been perfect. I just tried the gyros for the first time and they're also very very good. So excited to have found this place! Also they open early at 10am, which I really appreciate!“
