If I could eat here everyday I would. These are my favorite types of sushi restaurants to go to. Simple but far from ordinary. No frills, no heavily sauced California rolls, or flashy items just great quality sushi made as traditional as possible. Everything (that I tried) was fresh.I’m so glad that I found this little gem on this side of town. I’m coming back ASAP to try the rest of the restaurant. If you’re looking for a place to try real sushi, I would definitely put this on your list.My favorites from my visit were the Live Sweet Shrimp (fried head), Uni, Toro, Salmon Belly, Yellowtail, Scallop handroll, and the salmon collar. Like I said, I’m coming back to eat the rest.

Taihei Restaurant is a below average Japanese restaurant in a below average area of Monterey Park. The restaurant setting is aged. As I walked through the front door, I was overwhelmed by a nasty fish odor which filled the entire restaurant. The Chirashi Bowl was below average. The octopus had bad soft texture. The preserved daikon (yellow) had a weird taste. The preserved young ginger was dry and looked scary. For the Tempura Udon, they put the tempura pieces into the soup. Well, the tempura pieces all turned mushy. Well done, Taihei team! I will cross out Taihei from my dining list.

Oh my wow! What a delicious hidden gem. The sushi here for sure is one of the best I've tried for sure. I sat at the bar and ordered several orders of fresh sushi. Everything was spot on, made to order. The chef's recommendations were all delicious. I highly recommend this place if you want fresh, delicious sushi. I will for sure return to this place in the near future. Wow!

Really fresh sushi. Every time I dine there always seen elderly Japanese enjoying the meals and chatting with the server. I really like this kind of atmosphere. They have been in the location over 40 years. The location is next to a dry cleaners and unassuming location. But definitely great sushi so it’s worth a try.

Amazing food! The fish is fresh and tastes great, I love the hamachi nigiri here. The service is excellent, and since it's a small hole-in-the-wall style, it's very cozy and inviting. Definitely my favorite place in the SGV!

This restaurant has become a common dinner spot for me over the years, everything on the menu is top-notch, I especially recommend the Udon-Sukiyuki and the Eel, however I must ask the owners if they offer Tap-to-Pay (Google Pay, Apple Pay)

Very traditional Japanese sushi. If you're looking for frills and ambiance, this is not it. If you're looking for fresh sashimi with a traditional japanese menu, this could be your place.Got the sashimi platter. It was fresh tasting...kinda think the cut was thicker than it needed to be. Also, I got the seafood hot pot. This dish would hit the spot on a chilly winter day. I'm glad I tried it, but it's not gonna be a regular spot for me.

This place has been around for a long time and I like coming back here every now and then. It's a little bit more on the pricey side (what isn't nowadays), but I find it to be worth it. I usually get the lunch combo with teriyaki chicken and the sashimi. Their sashimi is always good quality, and the service is very attentive. There is some street parking and a small parking lot in the back. They let you know if it is street sweeping day, so that you don't get ticketed if you are on the street.
