The sushi here was good, and there were a lot of different specialty rolls (many I've never seen before). Ramen was also pretty tasty and a good portion size.I wasn't a fan of the edamame. They just serve it to you cold and no salt or anything.

Nice cozy spot. Went 13 years ago when I lived there and had a chance to return to Monterey try it again. They did not disappoint. The menu was improved, presentation was great and the flavour of every item I got was amazing.I'd suggest it to anyone that finds themselves in Monterey, CA.

Excellent menu, affordable prices, kind and speedy service. This is the best sushi place in Monterey - try the heart attack!

Yama sushi has been here since the dawn of time...deservedly so. Lunch specials are absolutely fantastic, tempura assortment top tier (pumpkin AND sweet potato?? you shouldn't have..) and udon is so delicious and full of green onion... Absolutely solid place for being stuck in the mall, thank you!!

BEST SUSHI IN MONTEREY! if you haven't been, you must go and try a roll or two from their extensive special roll menu section. sushi is always fresh, and service is phenomenal. the wait staff has become like family, and are so kind and courteous to us. Elizabeth is the main host, and she is so sweet and remembers you if you have been in before. you would never guess the best sushi would be at del monte center, but it is. it's a family-run, authentic sushi restaurant that has turned into a weekly stop for me and my boyfriend.

Food is great just the service was not what we expected. One of the employees there was being very odd and continued to ignore my mom and I. This older lady constantly went to every table asking if everything was ok if anyone needed anything but every single time she would skip my mother and I. At first we thought we were just imagining things but then when she finally approached us, it was to give us the bill. The lady quickly put the check on the very edge of the table causing it to almost fall on my mom and the lady just immediately stormed off. We finally got up to pay and the lady just snatched the bill from me and was avoiding all eye contact and when I asked her a question she completely ignored me and left. I don’t know why this lady was being so rude to my mom and I. We did notice we were the only ones there that were not white or Asian and were the only ones speaking Spanish at times. Like I said, the food is good but if you want to be feel discriminated for not being Asian or White, this is definitely the place to go.

Let's see.. rude lady that answers the phone. Rude lady again when I picked up our order and paid for it. Got home, opened the box, the restaurant crammed 45.00 of sushi ( 3 speciality rolls) into one take out box. All the sauces mixed together into the other rolls. SMH..Flavorless sushi rice. Disgusting restaurant. Why be in business if you hate what you do. We're long time residents and this restaurant has seen better days and is now over. We tried to support this restaurant but , Never again.

We were in Monterey for an overnight trip and thought we'd try a different spot instead of the wharf. I should know better than to get Asian food in Monterey when I live on the peninsula. The rating would have been 2 stars but the people were very nice and they were trying. It's not their fault the food wasn't very good. We had two dinner bentos: 1. salmon teriyaki and tempura: The salmon was actually the best thing at the restaurant. The tempura had no flavor and the batter was bland. 3/5 2. chicken tempura and tempura: When it said chicken tempura I mistake i of thinking it was chicken kaarage. Nope. It was chicken deep fried in bland tempura batter. 2/5 3. shoyu ramen: The cha sui was tough, the egg hard boiled and buried on the bottom. It had all the things that belong in ramen but it wasn't anything special. 2/5 I hate leaving bad reviews but it's my hope that they will do a better job with the food. The place has a nice quiet ambience but the food was lacking.

I really enjoyed this sushi restaurant. My girlfriend and I went here for the first time and the waiters are super friendly. This was my gf's first sushi experience and the staff were great at explaining the best spicy tuna rolls to try. We ended up going with 911 and the Sex and the City. Both were really good, but I tend to favor more of the spicy tuna so I really enjoyed the 911. We are already planning a return trip. The fried ice cream green tea for dessert is also a must have.
