Scratch was fantastic, with great service and huge portions! If you want some of the best French toast you'll ever have, you can't go wrong. Get it with Nutella for an even better bite. Plenty of outdoor seating or indoor seating with a fireplace makes this a great place to eat with a relaxing vibe.

Service was great, food was fantastic. Visited Scratch for a birthday dinner and excited to go back. Deviled eggs and Brussels sprouts are must dos. Highly recommend! For being a Saturday, we were shocked at how slow it was.

ok so look i really don't like leaving poor reviews but:tl;dr if this place were half the price the best i could call it would be *supremely* mediocre. there's a buncha better places you can go nearby to get similar dishes prepared way better.I've been here twice, once for brunch and then again for dinner, separated by a few months.the first time, for brunch, the meal was undersalted *and* undersweatened.the second time (a bit more recently, so a bit more detail): started with the duck potstickers. what we got were 4 potstickers which had not been sealed, one of which was ripped in half. the insides were supremely undersalted and otherwise somewhat lacking in flavor (there was a dipping sauce which helped a bit but did not fix the issues). had the lamb ragu for dinner. the ground lamb was absurdly dry, and more surprisingly, somewhat inconsistently salted -- largely under, but sometimes over (unclear what happened but ?‍♀️), and the noodles, while texturally sufficient, felt like they needed a bit more time with the sauce, and the whole dish was missing something (probably needed a little bit of parm or romano cheese, if I had to guess). to the dish's credit, the fresh marjoram was a lovely touch though.and here's the thing: this is a place on castro street, so it's hard to judge in isolation either -- for probably half the price, you can get *way* better dumplings of multiple varieties within a half-mile radius, and could get a better ragu at any of the italian places (or just better lamb in general).scratch seems like it wants to be upscale-general-american-style with upscale prices but not the food to match.

The mac and cheese had a good portion size, but was missing some salt. No wait times at this restaurant and very fast service.

We were welcomed immediately as we opened the door and then promptly seated in the middle of the restaurant. The service was attentive but not hovering. We ordered the corned beef hash and almond encrusted brioche French toast. It was all very good, but the star was the biscuit that came as an option with the corned beef. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy and warm on the inside and a must have!

Overall the service and ambience was excellent. The one meal fail was the mussels and Belgium fries. I have had this meal at least 10 times and never were the fries served in the same bowl as the mussels with wine sauce. Rather than crispy and crunchy, as they normally are served in a coronet, these were dull and soggy. In retrospect I should have sent them back rather than try to plow through them as I did.

Our food was delicious as expected but the service... No one came to our table for several minutes Didn't offer an ice bucket for our sparkling wine, had to go and find someone to request one Not attentive at all Just not the service that the restaurant should have, maybe the staff needs more training

Due to the Valentine's Day rush, the restaurant was quite crowded, and the two-person tables were set up extremely close to each other. Despite having an 8:30pm reservation, we were not seated until 8:45pm. The most disheartening aspect of our visit occurred at 9:15pm when the kitchen depleted its food supply, leaving us with only dessert options available. Given the restaurant's reputation, this experience fell short of my expectations.

We ordered their Valentine Special of Beef Wellington and it was terrible! It took forever to arrive, and the waiter apologized at least twice but did not offer any reason for the delay. When the order finally arrived the serving platter was placed on the table by itself. We had to request plates from the waiter, and ask again to get serving utensils to move the food from the serving platter to our plates. The meat was lukewarm but fairly tasty. The Wellington crust was too thick and was gummy and gooey. The manager stopped by to apologize and offered another glass of wine, which was a nice gesture, but the wine never came. All in all a very disappointing experience, which was made better only by the fact that they “comped” the meal and we were not charged. The will never go back to Scratch again as there are too many other excellent restaurants in the area.
