We stopped here with our dogs after a day at the beach. Pretty good food and beer! We had the fish tacos and the fish and chips. Both were solid. The patio was perfect to sit outside and enjoy the weather and the server helped us immediately. Bartender was cool too. Try this spot!

Helmsman is a great bar. However, the brand new manager himself let me in the back entrance with an outside beer, then no more than 5 minutes later, kicked me out for having the outside beer. He was kind but I felt I should've simply been asked to throw it away... maybe I'm wrong. Nonetheless, I left without any confrontation as requested. What was strange to me was the managers willingness to sacrifice our entire work events (30+ people) business over 1 outside beer. Again, I could just be wrong but due to this, we all ended up relocating across the street to Malarky's and had a great night.

Sooooo so impressed on the vibe, staff friendliness and the food was all on point. Just can’t say enough about this place - met up with friends here and a mixture of food to share. To start off the new england and west coast IPA were tasty; Wings were cooked so well and sauce was perfect; shared the nachos and the charcuterie tray with pretzel which was stellar. Great experience all around ??

Love this spot in Newport for brunch or lunch. They have a nice patio and can easily catch the game if you're looking for live sports as well. Close to the beach if you grab a bit and want to walk over to the beach.

Work parties are stressful to plan in general, but Bianca & Jerri really took care of me and made sure to secure all of the important details. They made it so easy for me! We rented out the outside patio area on a Friday night. Bianca made herself available anytime for questions, and gave me straightforward recommendations for food/drink/layout options. They also allowed me to rent additional heat lamps for my event. There were two amazing servers walking around during my event, and they were absolute rockstars taking everyone's drink orders and remembering all of their faces again when coming back with their drinks. My owners were impressed about the reasonable cost of our guest count of about 50. I have also visited Helmsman many other times - their Wing Wednesday deals are great and I love this restaurant's atmosphere. I hope to coordinate a future company event with the Helmsman staff again soon!

Friend is allergic to avocado restaurant still put avocado on the dish after we specifically told them not to. We didn’t notice it immediately because the dark ambiance made it hard to see. Friend ended up eating some avocado before they realized what was going on and had an allergic reaction. Restaurant’s reaction to this was amazingly obtuse. Didn’t care acted like it wasn’t their problem. In fact waiter asked if there was another dish they could grab for my friend while he’s coughing. We waited for over ten minutes and dude didn’t bring us the bill. Had to go up and ask for the bill and another waitress also acted like it wasn’t a big deal. We had to run to cvs to get Benadryl for our friend who was having allergic reaction to the food.Would never recommend this place for anyone with a food allergy. Place gives absolutely two cares about food safety or just safety in general. Never seen such little care given to something so serious. In fact if the owner reads this, he should immediately retrain everyone at the restaurant if he doesn’t want a death on their hands. If I knew what department to report this too to force the restaurant to take this seriously I would report this to the state, that how little the staff seemed to care.Dietary restrictions: Zero care given about this customer beware.
Came here on a Wednesday evening after Newport Beach's Run Club & it was packed!! Every Wednesday, they have 89 cent wings so I decided to try it out. I was definitely hesitant since the bar was packed and the wings were so cheap. To my surprise, the lemon pepper wings came out within 10 minutes & were delicious! Their ranch is a must & they also have a chipotle sauce. Their flavors include buffalo, lemon pepper, barbecue, original, etc.

I had a fantastic Wednesday evening dinner at Helmsman Ale House! The 89 cent wings were a steal, and the honey blonde ale was absolutely delicious. While the service was a tad slow due to the bustling crowd, the mouthwatering Asian garlic wings and the beer made it all worth it. My friend got the burger and a patron margarita and she said it was also good! Can't wait to come back for more!

Drinks are ok. Waited for about 30 mins for calamari, which had more cabbage than calamari. Although funny that cabbage isn't mentioned in the menu when you're ordering it. My bf ordered a sandwich with fries, which took more than an hour to get to the table. Our waiter spilled water on me from the tray and didn't even apologize. Ridiculous. Do not recommend the place and won't come back.
