The La Salsa by John Wayne Airport is open. I went there at 4:00 p.m. today and got the burrito grande and coke. So good for my belly. The La Salsa that used to be at Fashists Island closed many moons ago. A bit expensive but remember. It's all about the belly. Do not deprive das belly.

The BEST cheese enchilada platter in the world is served at La Salsa! I work across the street from work at least once a week to have the cheese enchilada platter with black beans and extra red sauce. Everyone there knows what I get and are really friendly! You have to try it, I've gotten all my coworkers to try it as well and they all love it!

Walked on over with my boss to the FI food court and we decided to eat at La Salsa. We both had one of the burritos and they were both good. The biggest compliment would be that the steak quality is actually really good, not fatty, and it was not over or under cooked. The biggest complaint was that I tasted no sour cream, let alone saw any in my burrito. What are they doing? Putting 1 dallop on? They do have a great selection of salsas and sauces to the side, which are complimentary and my boss took full advantage of that! I've never seen anybody with so many of the little cups of salsas and sauces and he used all of them, he likes things spicy!

Typical Mexican food. Consistently good in taste, but I have stopped going here as much because anytime I try to modify what is on the menu by deleting or subbing an item, it is ALWAYS wrong. Also they only have at most 3 people working during their busiest hours. The last thing I want to do is spend 30 min of my 1 hour lunch waiting for food that isn't even what I ordered.

Breakfast burrito is heavenly and large soda refils are cool. It's all I ever get here and I love it.

I adore La Salsa. I will literally have cravings for it. My husband will hate his life one day when I am pregnant and he has to drive here weekly to get me the burrito that only they can make to satisfy my craving. My La Salsa obsession began at the Westwood location, but I moved away from there. They shut down the Orange location (sobs) and the Upland location, and the Irvine location stopped carrying the appropriate accoutrements. Here is my secret to the perfect burrito. Order a bean & cheese, add steak. Now make your salsa. You will need two little cups or a larger bowl for this. One part Habanero, One part Mild, Add Cilantro, and squeeze two Limes. (Per cup or X3 for a bowl) Add to your burrito. Also get some of those delicious spiced up carrots for your appetizer while you wait for them to make your burrito. Get plenty of water or soda to drink, because this will be one of the best spicy rollercoaster rides of your life. Many friends have asked me for my secret recipe. Thank me later.

Sometimes you may want to experience Newport without the Newport Beach price. Go to La Salsa. After shopping or torturing at Fashion Island, you will be hungry. Don't waste your time getting a pager for some restaurant that you are half interested in and half to wait 45 minutes. Walk over to the food court near the Barnes and Nobles. The options are limited, but I recommend trying La Salsa. My friend always orders the shrimp burrito and I get the Mexico City Tacos. The shrimp burrito is very massive with lettuces, rice, and avocado. The MCT comes with 3 tacos, so you can choose the style you want. I recommend getting one of each type of taco. Beef, Carnitas, and chicken yum! Don't forget to load up on the salsa. The habanero salsa is extreme spicy and delicious. Now, its watered down a bit so not as spicy. Of course, get the salsa verde and pico de gallo also. I recommend mixing a few different salsas together to get your desired spiciness. If you want to save money, get the large soda with the free cup. That way you can refill it for 99 cents every time you got to Fashion Island. I highly recommend eating at La Salsa. Let your wife/ girlfriend shop. Go to B&N read a good book or magazine maybe have a cup of coffee. Newport has beautiful weather, you can always chill outside the book store. There is comfy outside seating with a nice waterfall similar to Wynn in LV. Lounge around and enjoy.

I decided upon La Salsa at the Fashion Island food court, over Pasta Bravo, Fatburger, Pain Du Monde and some others. I wasn't impressed with La Salsa. The food wasn't bad but could be improved upon. There's nothing like getting nachos and finding that half of the cheese is unmelted. I didn't want to ask the cashier about that because she looked like she wanted to bite me when I asked earlier if there were free refills. I'm getting over a cold, liquids are good after all. There are free refills but I neglected to get one. I try to avoid bitings. The carnitas tacos are pretty good. The sauce they use in the tacos is not spicy. The salsas I chose from the salsa bar were not spicy either. A meal for two was about $16 but we only ordered two carnitas tacos, a plate of chicken nachos and a drink. It filled me up well enough but don't expect much here, it is a food court restaurant. The food court was a pleasant enough atmosphere to enjoy lunch with Tom T, it was less busy and noisy on MLK day than it usually is.

One of the faster options in the Fashion Island food court. I like their bean and cheese burrito (choose between black beans or pinto beans) as well as their taquito & quesadilla combo platter. Gigantic portions, so don't come here if you're not that hungry. And yes, there is the self-serve salsa bar. All of the salsa flavors are wimpy except the habanero one, which is actually more of a medium although they label it "hot" or "hottest" or something. The mango salsa is not hot at all but it is pretty tasty in a dessert-ish way.
