My favorite Ethiopian place hands down! The vegan vegetarian place is rich with flavor and the perfect amount of spicy. I also think their Injera is perfect. Super nice and warm people..

We visited this restaurant as part of our cuisine adventure with friends. This was a good restaurant for a new experience. Ambiance is not that great because they are limited in space. There was a mixup with our reservation but they got it sorted and gave us a table after a little wait. I've never had Ethiopian food before, so it was a unique experience. Flavors seemed similar to Indian but without all the spices. Kids definitely did not like this place. There wasn't much for their taste. But it was an interesting experience overall so I would like to try Ethiopian again in a better restaurant.

We had the Doro Tibs, Beg Alicha, Azifa, and Vegetarian sampler. The injera fermented bread was amazing!! The food was excellent, service was great, and the servers were very friendly and fast. Multiple spice levels are available (the normal options are not very spicy for those with lower tolerance). Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Highly recommend to anyone!

I heard so many great things and was excited to finally come try. It was a pretty busy night, but we waited a long time to get water, and then a table who got sat later than us were accidentally served our food. When we did get our food everything was good but just the service and long wait times for everything kind of filtered down the rest of the experience.

My first time enjoying the succulent and delicious food from this particular location. My only complaint was they should have given more beef, lol! Just the sauce in the spices were delicious the whole thing was excellent! Just MORE BEEF PLEASE! AND WE'RE GOING TO ORDER TWO LARGE PLATES spicy in terms of being delicious was beautiful magnifique! Some restaurants give you spicy and it'll probably burn your throat on down if it made it past your tongue! Not this place they gave you deliciousness exquisitely! You know it's delicious if you lick the container even though the food is all gone you can't use your fork to scrape anything else off of it! If you want your taste buds to enjoy an adventure come to this place! If you had a bad day come to this place it's welcoming in the food will warm your heart and tummy! And you'll probably take home some honey wine.You are so deserving so please go and enjoy this place ????????????????????? ????DELICIOUSNESS ???

I used to come to this restaurant when it used to be Dareye, and in my opinion their kik alicha far outshines any other. Since Barcote took over, I have continued to come here to get my Ethiopian fix, but after today no more. I came here for the15% off Oakland Restaurant Week promotion since that was a great deal. I tried to place my order at the counter since no one came to take my order. The guy (might be the owner) ordered me to go back to my table and he would take my order... still waiting. He eventually did go back to the patio, not to take my order but to refill the injera baskets of the other patrons. I had to flag him down to get him to take my order. The food actually arrived in a timely manner. He placed my food down and promptly left without asking if I needed anything else. Throughout my meal no one came to check in or refill my injera. Since the table wasn't set, I had to get up and search for someone to ask for a napkin and was ignored. The restaurant was busy so I let everything slide as having served tables in restaurants in the past, I know what it's like to get slammed. I asked for the check and the busser came back and let me know I needed to go to the counter as the guy was busy. At this time, the restaurant had cleared out and there was no line at the counter. The guy clearly just didn't feel like walking back to give me my check. On top of that, instead of applying the 15% discount, he added 15% to the regular price and completely overcharged me. I ended up paying $5 more than I should have for the veggie combo plus tip. I don't know what happened to this place for the people here to feel they need to swindle their customers, but this is not how you treat someone who has been patronizing your place since the day you opened. I wish I could give negative stars. You have lost a longtime customer, and I will be discouraging others from coming here as well.

The food here was seriously so good. All four of us ordered one plate and there was one vegetarian so we got meat and veggies plate and damn it really filled us up after a long day of exploring the bay! The food is really excellent and is worth trying! The only thing is that the service can be a little slow because it's a small place and it seemed that they didn't have enough staff to cater to all the people coming. Other than that, it was really great and I'll recommend!

The food was phenomenal. We ordered the veggie meat platter and it was the perfect assortment of flavorful dishes. The indoor seating was pretty limited but for the warmer months there is nice outdoor seating! They were extremely busy when we went so their service was on the slower side. But I would definitely still recommend trying their food.

Everything that I've eaten is amazing and I would highly recommend doing take out from here! I ordered the veggie samosas, meat combo, and veggie combo. The meat dishes with the dark red sauce were my favorite meat dishes so I'd just order those in the future! Everything on the veggie platter was outstanding. I especially loved the cabbage and brown cold lentils, but I'd have to order all of those again! Unfortunately my experience eating here is not great. The restaurant feels like there's no heat inside, which makes for a pretty chilly and unpleasant experience in the winter months. Also, my meal was ruined by the scent of pine sol cleaning chemicals. They cleaned their kitchen with highly concentrated chemicals, so that smell carried out into the dining area and ruined the taste of my meal. Luckily that happened after I was almost done eating, so it wasn't the worst and I still enjoyed my food. Overall, I would 100% come back and carry out or eat outside. But eating indoors leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Barcote is a great spot if you want to try a new cuisine or are craving Ethiopian, especially with a group. My friend and I shared the Meat & Veggie Ultimate Combo. Everything was good - some more than others - and I liked the mix of meat, vegetables and lentils for variety and to make me feel a little healthier. I would highly recommend this if you have 3-4 people. Although if you're just two people, then you can get leftovers which for whatever reason tasted even better than fresh. We also got mead, which was very sweet, but the spices cut the sweetness enough for me to enjoy at least. Barcote is pretty affordable, especially if you stick to just an entrée or have a large group.

We were seated right away and the server was prompt and very helpful. It was my nephews first time and they had a lot of questions and the server was above in beyond answering them. He helped us pick out our food and gave us some suggestions. When the meal came he gave us details on each of the diffent items on the dish with a little back ground. Everybody was super friendly and the food was great. My nephews loved all of it. So did I. Thank you so much to the staff that night.
