Amazing chicken sandwich. The beet and goat cheese salad was excellent with chicken. Next time, I’ll try the shrimp. The ricotta donuts with the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces are out of this world!!

We tried their brunch menu and was not disappointed. We ordered from the most friendly staff at the window the Andouille Shrimp and Grits which had creamy cheddar grits, the breakfast sandwich with home style fried potatoes, Banana Bread Louise which is banana bread french toast with Bananas Foster topping and a Grains in Purgatory bowl which had farrow. Roasted vegetables and two sunny side up eggs topped with chili crisp. I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful the Grains in Purgatory was considering it was mostly vegetarian except for the eggs. It has the right amount of spice and the farrow had a nice bite. The breakfast sandwich had scrambled egg and thickly sliced bacon and arugula, the home fries that came on the side were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Those potatoes were the bomb! The gravy on the shrimp and grits was a little too salty for me but those creamy cheddar grits were so rich and smooth. Get the Banana Bread Louise to share for dessert! It's amazing! I look forward to trying items on their lunch menu especially the jerk salmon

I have lived in Oakland for 22 years and have seen the businesses at this spot come and go and I've tried them all at least once. Today was my first time at Cafe Noir and first impressions mean a lot. It was clean and tidy all around outside. Even the small parking spot was neat. Quick pick up and pleasant staff greeted me and told me a little about what and how they cook from scratch. I got the two burgers on the menu with fries and they didn't disappoint I liked them both but I could do without the jalapeños that's just me. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Thanks for being a B.O.B near me. "I'll be back ".

Audaciously Speaking

Just ordered:My wings are under cooked (red/pink all through). The container that the wings and fries are in has them sweating so tough that they are soggy. The grits are okay.

I've seen quite a few businesses come and go on the corner of Coolidge & MacArthur (across from AMA auto) but I really hope this one is here for good! Delicious, well priced salads, sandwiches, wings, desserts, and entrees! They have both a weekday lunch and a Saturday brunch menu. My go-tos are the veggie sandwich, the burger, grains in purgatory (farro with veggies, a fried egg, and an awesome spicy sauce) and the gnocchi with pork sausage. The sandwiches come with fries or a side salad. If you really want to treat yourself, place an order for the ricotta donuts, which come with chocolate AND caramel dipping sauces. To-go food only, order at the open window and comes out usually in around 10-15 minutes.
