I checked out their website yesterday in anticipation of visiting today. It's very lame that it still shows hours and a menu. The owners need to fox that. Still, I loved this restaurant and will miss it.

This place better be good. The non-alcoholic beverage I ordered was pure sugar. We've been waiting for a whole hour + 20min in line. There isn't that many people here so I think it's just really inefficient. There are also no heat lamps outside and inside the line crowds all the tables. The kitchen is so slow the several people waiting to pick up were taking up tables. Don't think I've seen a messier place.

Ok i went on a Sunday they were closed I understood that. Then I went on Monday they were closed. Then i went tesuday at 2:30. An a young lady told me that there closed. At 2:45 pm. I thought, wow am here at 2:30. But i just left. That place is full of s*** with there high prices. That's it for me. And i live around the corner from them. My neighbor told me about them because normally I pass them up anyway. Dam shame.

-Ginger and Passionfruit Limeaide ($4) -Bajan Fried Chicken Sandwich [miss ollie's skillet fried chicken, avocado, tomato, lettuce, slaw, smashed plantain bun, island styled fries] ($15.50) -Plantain with Garlic Oil ($4) -Baked Mac n Cheese ($8) -Creole Doughnuts and Cream ($6.50) the food here is so delicious - the people, the vibes, the food, and atmosphere was so enjoyable! the staff here are so friendly and you can sense the community they've built with their customers (new or returning). the postive and peaceful vibes along with the atmosphere indoor and outdoors made my visit such a perfect spot for lunch with friends, family, date, or even by yourself . but unfortunately they are gonna closing next week so make sure to stop by support while you still can!! :( for my drink and food choices i got the passion fruit limeaide and bajan chicken sandwich. the limeaide was refreshing/tangy which made eating the bajan chicken sandwich a good balance. the bajan fried chicken sandwich was flavorful but also it wasn't too heavy -- and the flavors of the sauce intermixed with the slaw and veggies really hit the spot! the baked mac n cheese isn't pictured but it was so creamy and cheesy and previously in the past a lot of restaurant made mac n cheese can be oily but the ones here weren't which i appreciate a lot! plantain in garlic made the perfect appetizer to share with a slight twist of sweetness yet garclicky by the end i was too full to try the creole doughnuts and cream but my friend LOVEDDDD IT and she was would rate it 100/10 so if yall are in the area or would like to check it out before next week then these different dishes are something id highly recommend!!

This spot has been on my list for a while, and the news of it closing soon got me going despite seeing gas and toll being hefty. Their Instagram be posting some bomb j*** meats and seafood! That j*** crab and oxtail made me salivate a bit too much. This is at the corner of Swan Market, they have indoor and outdoor seating. I love the vibe of the restaurant, it feels like a bit of a personal collection/museum vibe with the mini altars, some books by the window sill. You would order before getting seated, if you have a group of people, send someone to scavenge for a free table or soon to be free. Utensils are on a common table for grabs. By the time they are all set up, the cashier probably finished putting in the order for one person, so wait like 15 more minutes for your turn, even though you're next in line. Overall, the service to order is long, I don't know the cause. Now that you've ordered your food, you just gotta wait a pretty long time before your food comes. Since I didn't see any of the dishes I want to try, I had decided on the ackee and salt fish, it's a national dish of Jamaica, why not? And can't say no to fried chicken, good thing they have a la carte, so I don't need to order two entrees for myself. After a good one hour and some change wait, seeing people who came after me getting their food before me, I finally got mine. By then, I'm just too starved to really enjoy my food. The chicken was pretty crispy on the outside while keeping it moist within. That drumstick was not what I had imagine. The drumstick was the drumstick of a wing, not the drumstick of a leg. Hefty price for a top section of a wing, with that price tag, I'm not getting that right satisfaction of that wing. Okay, ingredient pricing have gone up, I'll give you that. Ackee and salt fish? Ackee was interesting, it looked like scrambled egg for sure. Its sweetness offset that extremely salty cod fish pieces. Some reviews mentioned how little fish you get in that dish. For the sake of my kidneys, I think that's enough pieces of salt fish. I downed the whole carafe of water to cleanse my palette. I do think the entree here runs super small other than the chicken platter and maybe the sandwich. Spending about $40 on this meal was not really worth it. Perhaps I had ordered the wrong item from the menu, but with this kind of wait and slow service, I'm hesitant to come back to give the other dishes a go.

Miss Ollie's is the SPOT for Caribbean food in Old Oakland! They have signature dishes such as oxtails but also put their own spin on staple items, for example the chicken sandwich is between plantains instead of rolls. This place is a gem, highly recommend to check it out.

On the way back from our outing in Sf ., and had to stop. My son just loves visiting all the different places to eat. We got the oxtail, Mac n cheese, potato salad, greens, and fried chicken. I'm not a Mac n cheese person, but I enjoyed the Mac! Everyone had a little bit of everything and very content! Sad to hear they will be closing at the end of the month...

Had to roll through and get some goodness before this Oakland staple closes. First the food, ordered the fried chicken meal which came with 4 pieces and 3 sides - potato salad, mac n' cheese and greens. Also ordered the Salt Fish & Ackee and a lamb patty. Everything was yummy !!!! Good soul food is becoming harder and harder to find here in Oakland and the Bay Area for that matter. All of these new spots opening around Oakland are extra pricey, small portioned and can't compare in flavor, taste or offerings. I enjoy going out to eat, supporting community, etc. and it is my hope that the heavens above will provide a way for established local businesses to prosper otherwise all of the heart and soul of Oakland will cease to exist !

First time there and it was amazing. The fried chicken was on point, from not being greasy all the way to the crunch. I had the Mac n cheese too well seasoned and delicious in every bite. Would try again soon.

Miss Ollies The good: Not a damn thing. The bad: EVERYTHING! To begin, the simple things go a long way- I asked for utensils with my pic-up order and received nothing at all- no utensils nor napkins. It wasn't busy and there were no patrons in the store. The Thursday Oxtails special reads "slow cooked in a savory caramel sauce, coconut rice & peas, smashed plantains, garlicky greens and pepper slaw. The were 4 pieces of oxtails one was about the size of the top of an 8oz paper cup the 3 other pieces were significantly smaller, they were definitely not slow cooked as they were tuff and mainly gristle, no savory caramel sauce just grease from the oxtails, very sweet, under-seasoned and underwhelming! Coconut rice & peas drenched in the grease not the savory caramel gravy and also under-seasoned. The garlicky greens tasted like pure iodized salt. They must have dropped half the container in them. After tasting this I was done as nothing was edible. I didn't even try the plantains and there was no pepper slaw. The fried chicken was SAD, and AWFUL! They literally poured iodized salt on top of the skin of the already fried chicken it was very visible so I tried to brush it off and take a bite and that chicken was not made to order as it was dry and greasy and instead of seasoning the chicken prior to cooking it they just elected to dump iodized salt all over the top of the already fried chicken and so that was also inedible. This was a $40 nightmare and Miss Ollies should be shut down!!! I would NEVER patronize this sad excuse for a restaurant again nor recommend it to anyone!!!

I finally made it to the Old Oakland Farmers Market as I found myself downtown on a rare Friday morning when I was free of other obligations. Perusing the area after a long pause, I thought this well established restaurant was down the street but here it is on the prominent corner of Washington and Ninth at Swan's Market. I had been meaning to try chef Sarah Kirnon's Caribbean comfort food since it's been the subject of culinary adulation for years. I simply walked in and tried to absorb the menu as quickly as possible. Fried chicken, cornmeal fritters, and baked macaroni & cheese were prominent items which sounded tasty but also calorifically fearsome. I settled on the $11 Creole Salad which had the tantalizing add-on option of grilled j*** shrimp. When I saw my order jump up to $23, I asked whether that was a mistake since I read the surcharge to be $3.50. I was corrected to understand the $3.50 charge was per shrimp. I ordered four shrimp which would've been $14, but he charged me $12 probably out of pity for my ignorance. Four turned out to be a good number as they were huge, meaty and quite flavorful on their own. They rested on an abundant salad made up of mango, cara cara oranges, apples, olives, chayotes, apricots, cucumber, and mixed leaf lettuce (photo). Quite a bowl, especially for the exalted price, and the $3.50 Cardamom Iced Tea was a refreshing accompaniment (photo). FOOD - 4 stars...great crunchy salad and the j*** shrimp was tasty even though it added up AMBIANCE - 4 stars...sat on the terrace watching all the farmers market activity SERVICE - 3.5 stars...frankly could've been more helpful TOTAL - 4 stars...fresh ingredients though the per-prawn pricing should be reconsidered RELATED - Exploring Oakland? One word: Oxtails. Get them. Get them NEEEOOOOWWWW!!!! They be the shizz! They are... life changing. Life. Changing. You heard it here first, bruh! And, don't at me! Okay fine... you can at me if you promise to get me some of dem oxtails :). Another place that has taken me WAAAAY too damn long to try. Whyyyyy???? I've missed out on years of this goodness, and for whaaat?! But, there's no time like the present. I must make up for my shortcomings now. But anyways, back to those oxtails. You need it in yo life. Lip smackin' good. I was in the area and decided to drop by here for dinner last month. First off, the vibes are so wonderful here. Super low key and relaxing. I love decor and their whole setup. Open and airy interior and lots of spacious patio seating. They have a cute little bar area too. The artwork is just insane! Colorful, creative, and local. Love their support for other local businesses. It's a fast casual setup where you order at the counter and they'll deliver your food to your table. There were some rather strict house rules posted on the wall, but it doesn't seem like they were abiding by them at the time (could have been more so during the peak of COVID). I came on a Thursday which just so happened to be oxtail Thursday! Hallelujah! Lawd KNOWS I love me some damn oxtails, especially Jamaican and Caribbean style. Their oxtail plate comes with coconut rice and peas, smashed plantains, collard greens, and pikliz (a Haitian pickled veggie relish). Also ordered their Banjan Rum Punch cocktail to wash it all down with. I could smell those damn oxtails before they even made it to my table. That's how you know it's finna be good. And I threw DOWN, okay?! Had me suckin' all on dem bones too. These oxtails were braised to absolute perfection! Just falling all off the bone, glistening in all of their glory. Seasoned up for the GAWDS!!! It's the seasoning for ME! And baby, they know exactly what they're doing here. Spices on point. Presentation on point. Portions on point. JUST... on point! The plantains were so lovely. Coconut rice was nice and fluffy. My only nitpick was with the collard greens. It was a bit too heavy on the salt for me, but luckily the rice helped to cut that down a bit. Otherwise, this meal was damn near perfect. I loved my cocktail as well! It was definitely strong. No skimping on that alcohol here ladies and gents! And those portions... woooow. I tried so hard to finish it all, but ya girl was stuffed to the bone. And lemme tell you, those oxtails tasted friggin' AMAZING the next day! That's not always possible given its' consistency. But they tasted just as good as when I had them the day prior. The gentleman at the ordering counter (he may be the owner?!) was super cordial and attentive! Although this isn't a full service establishment, they sure make you feel like it is. He checked in on me a few times and even brought me over some water, napkins, and utensils. There was another party sitting across from me who were raving about the food here. I think they're regulars. They were fun to chat with. But oh em geezy, I've been thinking' about them oxtails for a hot minute now. I just know that everything else on their menu has to be bangin' because those oxtails are straight fire! If you want them, you have to come on Thursdays to get them as they're a special item. I'm planning on working my way through their menu though. They have a great selection of Caribbean food items on their menu. But if you want some mouthwatering oxtails, you need to come here like pronto.

I came with some friends, we really enjoyed the food it was really nice.I had a salad with shrimps and it was quite filling. My friends had like a family package with fried chicken and some sides, it was real good. My friend also ordered a chicken sandwich and instead of bread it had plantains. He said it was delicious and it looked like it.The drinks were good as well, we had 2 cocktails and some drinks (lemonade with ginger and hibiscus with some spices)
