If you call they still kindly pick up; however, last I checked they're still not open. This place is easily #1 in the East Bay. Amazing food, juicy brisket, and great portions! I hope this place opens back up again!

My daughter wanted BBQ for her graduation luncheon. I had seen the great Yelp reviews for this place and decided to give them a try. First of all they were super easy to communicate with. They responded back to my emails and text right away. They showed up on time to deliver the food as they said they would. We ordered the chicken, tri tip and macaroni & cheese. The food was delicious!!!!! Their bbq sauce was amazing. The meat was all cooked beautifully. The Mac & Cheese was out of this world. I only wish I had ordered more of it because everyone wanted more. I would highly recommend this company for catering. My brother is looking forward to hitting up their pop ups since he works in their area.

I hosted an outside reunion yesterday. I contacted Charlotte at Phat Matt's who responded immediately. I place my order for ribs and chicken to feed approximately 35 people. Yesterday, Phat Matt's delivered the food order right on time. They were great to work with. The ribs and chicken were both delicious, tender and tasty. The order came with a regular and a spicy sauce. I was extremely pleased with both the service and the quality of the food that Phat Matt's offers. At the end of our get together, the ribs and chicken were demolished with gusto. I will surely call them again to cater an event.

Best brisket... Pop up orders and catering only... Storefront on Broadway no longer in operation.

I've ordered from this place before. The better experiences I've had has always been dining in person. Ordering to go has always been a hit and miss experience. I figured it is worth the gamble, considering how good their ribs and brisket are. I also like that their sauces are vinegar-based and contain no sugar. Unfortunately, the last time I ordered for pick up was one of those "miss" days. They didn't have the sausages I ordered in advance 2 weeks ago. I was offered a substitute. I tried the pulled chicken, since I have a family member who won't eat pork or beef. The 1/4 lb pulled chicken was a half cup of chopped, dried chicken. Had a smoked jerky consistency, rather than moist bbq. Covering it with sauce didn't cover the hard, dried chewiness of it. The ribs were fine, thank goodness. I really miss their dine-in spot. I think I will wait until they get a sit down establishment set up, again.

This is one of Hubby's favorite places to get BBQ. Matt and Charlotte really know how to do BBQ!! Succulent, juicy, smoky, and fall-off-the-bone tender. Matt is a master at BBQ. We were sad when they closed their restaurant but Charlotte assured everyone that they were not done. They now do catering and pop-ups. Look on their website to see when the next pop-up is, then order your meats in advance by the posted deadline. I wanted to surprise Hubby with a rack of these amazing smoked ribs for his birthday. I called to see if I could possibly order just one rack of ribs and they happened to be doing a large order so they said they'd throw an extra rack of ribs in for me that I could buy! The rack of ribs was so tender, plump, meaty and delicious. They make all their own sauces and rubs. They give you containers of extra BBQ sauce too, ranging from mild to spicy. If you love BBQ, you'll love these!

I used to order from this place on occasion for my office and somehow forgot about this place until a few years later until it was too late when they recently decided to only do pop-up locations. Legit BBQ as we usually got the brisket, ribs, yams, mac and cheese. I'm holding out hope they'll decide to open up another permanent location again!

Sadly I think the covid19 pandemic has claimed another restaurant, there is a 4 lease sign in window . May be available for popup or catering. Was some of the best BBQ in Oakland, top 3 imo.

I like the owners as well as the food. They focus on Consistency and that is not an easy task! From the first time I ate there years back until now, the meats pretty much have the same moist quality. [No one can hit it 100%.] That means alot when I get the craving for their bbq! I don't have to shop around for another place! The owners are earthy hardworking folks and try to accomodate you. They'll close early due to sellout. It's the best I've found for quality and price. I have two smokers in my family.

4.5 stars. I wanted to wait until trying both Phat Matt's and Smokin Woods before writing a review for either, given that these two heavyweights look like the clear standouts in the Oakland BBQ scene at 500+ reviews each at the time of writing.I slightly prefer Phat Matt's. I ordered a two meat combo with brisket and pork ribs, with sides of mac and cheese and collard greens. The brisket is some of the best I've had outside of Texas. It's the perfect blend of fatty and lean meat, and just falls apart on your knife. The ribs were solid as well. The two meat combo here is about double the price of that at Smokin Woods, but the quantity here is almost double. It easily lasted me two full meals. I also think their BBQ sauce, particularly the spicy BBQ, is slightly better.Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and/or a BBQ fan.

What can I say but YUMMM....My fav BBQ in Oakland. And today I finally got to have some Q during the Shelter in Place (SIP). PLEASE stop by Phat Matt's and support Charlotte and her team for their dee-lish smoked meats. Especially during this unusual SIP times. Love their food. This visit, I got my usual 2 way combo order (Texas Style brisket [3 slices] and Memphis Style pork ribs [4 ribs]). Changed up the sides this time and did the mac-n-cheese and corn. The ribs were so tender and meaty. The brisket was really good.Take a look at what all you get.The 2nd pic shows the meats and the smoke rings. That will be my leftover meal.Enough typing and lemme get at this yummy looking meal.

Fab slow smoked bbq and great sides. Tried for 1st time last evening, with pickup mid afternoon. Had Triple meat combination with ribs, brisket & pulled pork with bbq beans and vinegar (not mayo) slaw + 2 sides cornbread. All were delish; ribs had great crust from dry rub that’s really flavorsome and without any salt. Brisket with great bark and fab flavor, cut thick! Pulled pork was amazing. Slaw to die for. We’ll be back. Next time I’ll ask to let me know if they ever do Burnt Ends & if they sell face masks and aprons that Matt was wearing (colorful chili peppers on black)! Support local black-owned Oakland business!!

All of the meats were nice and tender. Greens and Potato salad was good. They will be closing down after 11 years at this location. They will now strictly just do catering from their house. You can now go on their website and their Facebook page call in an order and they will bring it out from their house after the 27th of June.
