This was once the Best and oldest Authentic Mexican Restaurants around, it was Family. It was nothing fancy, it was casual. People came from all over, to eat here. What brought them here was the food, a large menu selection. it wasn't surprising to see movie stars that would come in casually and blend in. Miss this place!!

Sals was the best Mexican food in Ventura county. My son (and many of our friends), and I used to drive from Thousand Oaks, just to eat there (which was quite frequently). Sal himself was an icon. He would come to every table and talk to you and make sure everything was ok. One night my friend and I went to an auction in Ventura, and decided to eat at Sals on the way back. The restaurant was closing when we were paying our bill. Sal refused to let us (two women) go to our car in the parking lot without him walking out with us. Such a gentleman and all out sweet person. I have not gone there since Sal died, but I am very disappointed that they had to close after 62 years. I think Sal was the backbone of the entire place, and his passing was sure to change everything.

I have known this Family for many many years. This was always more than just a restaurant and always will be. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. To many people that have had the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of meeting Sal and spend time with him they knew that he was a Saint on Earth. So don't have the audacity to try and discedit the memories that many of us have been able to have with him. Mercedes, Eddie, James were always incredibly polite and loving people. I have a part of my life and heart that is occupied by you. Michael (Senior Cadillac) McKenna

Their food is just exceptional. Some dishes are way too over priced. Too much focus on decor than quality of authentic Mexican food! Service is fair. Restaurant seems clean. However....Really do miss Sal's food! (And Salsa) Overall; Fair!

I'm going to be completely honest here. The food here is just adequate. It's good stuff don't get me wrong. But for the price of most of the dishes, I would expect much higher quality food both in taste and preparation. You can get better tasting food for much, MUCH less at so many other places in Oxnard. That being said, the atmosphere, improvements to the facility post-Sal's, and the friendly servers are really why you should be coming here. They really are the backbone of what makes this place worthwhile.Little tip: if you aren't picky, you can order some pretty good stuff off the a la carte menu and leave full for less than $10 per person.

I have seen alot of changes due to being a business owner of Quality Windows, which is next door to Alicia's Mexican Inn. From the day they opened I go crazy over the chicken enchiladas and chicken taco combo plates with rice and beans. I really enjoy eating in the bar at lunch time and watching ESPN sports on the big screen TV. Everyone greets me with a smile. The service is just great! For many years I have been bringing business reps to eat at Sal's and now Alicia's for good reasons...the Food is great!

My family and I used to eat here all the time before the extensive refurbishment a few years back. After the refurbishment the food quality sadly went down and the prices went up. The original charm of the brick walls and cozy hospitality have been replaced with white flat walls that make us feel like we are dining in a psycho ward. We are no longer satisfies Sals customers, unfortunately, and our business has since moved elsewhere.

Sal's has been an iconic Mexican food destination my entire life. That is until Sal died. RIP Sal! When Sal was alive he would walk around the restaurant and check on his guests constantly. The food was never what you would call gourmet but it was always consistently good. Never ever great. But the price was always very reasonable for the good quality of the food. Since Sal died the restaurant has pass on to his kids for ownership and they have tried to turn it into something different. They renovated the restaurant and made it look nicer, and have tried to present the food as more upscale and gourmet cuisine. They have failed miserably. The cost has nearly doubled in a few years since Sal died and yet the food is of a much poorer quality than it ever was before. I go in every few years to see if it has imporved and I am about due. So since C. C. gave it such a good review I might have to check it out again sometime soon. But in the meantime approach with caution!
