2023-01-07 this place is no longer in business. For lease sign in the window. It was a favorite.

This restaurants has been closed for several weeks. However, my reservation was accepted by you even though it was closed!! We arrived only to find it had been closed for weeks. You should check on the restaurants for which you take reservations! It is very frustrating to show up and find it closed.

OpenTable took my reservation. A day prior to the date, OpenTable sent me an email, that I should confirm the reservation. I did. I arrived with my date at the restaurant promptly. THE RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED FOR GOOD. *** OpenTable *** caused a monumental embarrassment. Shame on OpenTable.

We didn't know where in Palo Alto to brunch but you can't go wrong starting your search on bustling California Ave. We'd had a substantial steakhouse meal the night before, & while Pastis' French fare had the potential to be another heavy meal, we choose relatively light bites to balance it all out. One companion chose a bland & disappointing French onion soup ($11.45), while another chose the succulent & infinitely more flavorful duck confit salad ($21.95.) I went for the warm goat cheese salad ($17.95.) Four toasted baguette pieces held dollops of herb chèvre which was just enough richness for its bed of mixed greens, tomatoes, & pine nuts. We'll explore other brunch options next time we wake up in sunny Palo Alto, but I'd recommend the salad I ordered to those who fancy chèvre their cheese of choice.

This was a cozy French brunch spot for my family and I. The entire staff was amiable and diligent. I ordered the ‘omelette au fromage,’ and the presentation was incredible. It came with delicious roasted potatoes, a sweet, adorable flower-shaped bread, and my main dish. Unfortunately, the excitement halted when I found not one but two hairs cooked into my omelet. On top of that, my omelet only had cheese on top and nothing on the inside, so it wasn’t that appetizing. I would love to come back, but hopefully, there won’t be any hair on my dish next time. ?????

I grew up in French Canada so I have had my share of French food outside of France. I was very excited to try some French food in North America outside of Quebec. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not live up to my expectations and I was rather disappointed (mostly by the service). The food was nothing to write home about: it was very average and not memorable at all. I ordered the "Saumon benedict [sic]" and my companion, the "Omelette de le [sic] mer". The fact that there are spelling mistakes in the menu does not inspire confidence at the authenticity of the food. The main reason for the 2 stars is the fact that we received completely substandard service and different treatment compared to the older couple sitting next to us. The maître d'hôtel (or the host? who sat us), first went to that older couple and explained in detail the menu while grinning from ear to ear. He also took a few minutes to tell them about the unadvertised specials that were not on the menu. Then, when it was our turn, he turned around, asked us if we were ready to order while frowning, and left without even mentioning the unadvertised specials. What is one to think when such blatant contrast in service and treatment occurs?

Brilliant small French restaurant in the busy Calif. Ave. corridor; delicious food, meticulously prepared, distinctive and Nouvelle. The mussels are especially good, but I also love the steaks and the stroganoff. Ask to meet Max, the owner-- his wine selections are terrific. Not too pricey. Be sure to make a reservation in advance-- it's a small bistro, and fills up fast with regulars who know about it. Enjoy!!

A delicious, authentic French bistro with very reasonable prices ($16 for most entrees like omelettes and benedicts and <$5 for pastries or a latte with light biscotti). Even the decor is authentic and service is great! An omelette was delayed but they were very gracious after I asked politely.Benedict's were perfect, with delicious double garlic potatoes. The onion soup was rich and authentic. And the omelette was also well executed.

We took my French food-loving son here for a lovely birthday celebration. Portions are huge, so we shared the Salade au Foie de Volaille (warm chicken livers on spinach with pancetta and shallots and a nice dressing), which was yummy. The dressing perfectly balanced the richness of the liver and pancetta. For main dishes, my son had the Civet de Lapin, which was a rich and savory braised rabbit on orzo. My husband had the Ribeye Steak aux Champignons, which was excellently tender and superbly flavorful. I had the Magret de Canard Sauce Dijon et Abricot which was a bit of heaven. Fluffy, rich mashed potatoes came with all of these, along with roasted vegetables for two of the dishes. We all had leftovers to carry home and thus room for dessert, my son had the Fondant au Chocolat , my husband had the Creme Brulee (which he said was excellent and much better than others he has had recently), and I had the Tarte Tatin (the apples were delectable and almost caramelized). Service started with bread and a delicious cold cream soup. The bread service is generous, and it came with a savory butter that my son found delightful. The staff is friendly, cheerful, knowledgeable, and not too formal. People at two of the tables near us were speaking French fluently. The wine list had good choices with something for everyone. They also make cocktails and have the largest list of their eponymous aperitif that I've ever encountered. We'll go back! Highly recommended.

Been here twice in the past couple of weeks. The food and service are excellent, definitely coming back.

We had a nice table outside for my sister's birthday. My 2 granddaughters were with us and I was disappointed they didn't have a children's menu and items that were kid friendly. They did have the burgers which they enjoyed. The fresh ahi salad was very nice and the beignets were great. Service was excellent!

Excellent service and cuisine. You can tell they care about serving quality food. From the beet salad to French onion soup to duck breast.... Really delicious and worth every penny. Good wine, too.

I got the salmon benedict and my friends got different omelettes and the potatoes that came with it were a lot more flavorful than the egg dishes (lotssss of garlic, so be warned in case having it on your breath bothers you). I added a fair amount of hot sauce to my eggs just to feel something. Staff is efficient and get a 10/10 score for re-filling water. I wouldn't come here with a group of 4+ though because we felt a bit crammed together.

Came here on a Saturday night, asking for table of 9. Indoors was full, but we enjoyed the outdoor seating, even on a brisk night. The service was excellent. We were treated to complimentary poisson soup, which was a great start. The bread was plenty, but personally was a bit stale and the butter was a bit hard. The snail appetizer was excellent. The burrata was good. We finished the calamari frites too. The portions of everything was huge. My halibut special fish wasn't that impressive. I tried the ribeye and didn't love either . Rabia didn't finish her duck either. But others seemed to enjoy their meals. Overall it was a nice night and I'm glad we tried it out. But won't be coming back.

None of us finished our dinners. Truly unacceptable. Tasted like a bad airplane meal served in economy on a transatlantic flight. My sole was dry (way too thick to be sole), over-breaded, fishy-tasting. Service was friendly and competent. But that's not enough when they serve what was probably the worst meal I've had in recent memory.
