Awesome place to indulge, many to pick dishes when you are craving for something special to munch. Try it

Definitely the best cafe out of the three in VMware! Having lunch here is definitely one of the highlights of my work day. The menu is different everyday and I rarely see items repeated. The chefs here create unique dishes and like to experiment with mixing flavors from different cultures. My problem with this cafe is the options are sometimes TOO good and I can't decide what I want! Several of the stations allow you to order half plates, so I often get two half plates from different stations so I get to try both! The different stations here are: - sauté (typically a pasta or sautéed dish) - brick (typically a pizza or other baked item) - umami (asian dish, mostly Korean) - sushi (rolls, nigiri, etc) - grill (with daily specials of seared and sandwich option and other typical grill options like burgers and fries) - rolled (Indian wrap) - spiced (Indian dishes, typically 3 types a day) - salad bar - make your own sandwich bar - soups The umami station is new as of 2018 and so far, the dishes have been very good! Some examples include Korean ramen, bibimbap, pho, and fried chicken. The rolled station with the Indian wraps is also very good and a good deal! For $7, you get a full wrap that includes a daily dish (e.g. chicken tikka masala or something similar), egg, onions, and lettuce. Plus, you get a side of either fruit or yogurt rice. The yogurt rice is only available Wed-Fri, but I highly recommend it! Plus, there are freshly made drinks that are free to employees and a small fee for non-employees. There's usually a daily option of an agua fresca, spa water, tea, and lemonade. Also, get a seat in the back if you can! As it's name suggests, the Hilltop Cafe is located on top of a hill and the view is quite nice. It does get pretty crowded around noon, so I would suggest either coming at 11:30 am or at 1 pm after the lunch crowd dies down.

VMware's Hilltop Cafeteria has a good selection of food, all of which is high in quality. My favorites are the wok station, which usually has either stir fry or pasta (PRO TIP - you can order a half portion). And, of course - made to order sushi! Otherwise, there's a brick oven station which usually serves pizza, a sear special which is usually some sort of meat or fish prepared in a creative way, a special salad, and an indian station. The worst part of the cafeteria is the salad bar and the soups. Though I made a DIY salad often due to wanting to have a healthy lunch, the ingredient options are not very impressive. The cubed chicken, which you have to add for an extra dollar is really bland and gross. The soup, in my experience, has been very bad. The protein they use in the soup is most likely old, leftover from the day before. Not free for employees, unlike a lot of other tech companies in SV, but perhaps that is a blessing in disguise because it prevents overreating. I've never paid more than $10 for lunch here.

Price: $7-$10 Working in the middle of a bunch of sprawling tech campuses means I'm pretty limited in my walking distance lunch choices. Pretty much the only things near me that allow non-employees in are: SAP, VMware, Alway Cafe, and the food truck that rolls up in front of Tesla. Of these options, VMware is my favorite. Lots of variety, plentiful seating, good food, reasonable prices, and free drinks. They have multiple stations for you to choose from including: Indian food, a grill with a daily seafood or meat option, salad and soup, sandwiches, pizza, and another station that seems to rotate food without adhering to any type of theme. The menu changes daily and is posted publicly on I've had lunch here several times now, and I've been pretty happy with each of my meals. To give you a sense of what they serve here, I got a lamb burger topped with ricotta, arugula, sundried tomatoes, cucumbers, and taziki sauce with a side of fries from the grill station for around $8.50 today. In the past I've had ramen, and the kathi roll with a samosa on the side. Staff members are friendly, you get a selection of iced teas and juices to choose from, and can either dine in or take it to go. I'd recommend for a convenient middle of the work day lunch, especially if you work on Hillview or in the Research Park area.

I now prefer this cafeteria over the one in the main part of the campus. It's worth the walk up the hill. They don't have as many options as the bigger one, but the quality and complexity of the dishes make this one stand out.

Love the samosa kathi roll. The yoghurt rice that comes on the side is just mindblowing.

Food here is different everyday, you have to fill out forms at the grill for a long wait. No normal hamburgers and fries here. It's chef's choice where the menu changes daily and you get something new slopped on the burger meat. No steady pizza, no steady baked chicken like the Prom C cafeteria. Way too much Indian food, very seldom any Chinese, Mexican, Japanese selections. Often the pasta section is closed. Usually only 2 dessert options. It's a 'creative' bistro because it's HQ building, but not pleasant to eat there every day. It's not a place to dash to when you're craving something quick and specific between meetings. What were they thinking? Half the time we browse and can't find anything good, and either take the long walk to Prom C, walk across the street to SAP cafeteria, or drive off campus. Average cost of a lunch is $8 compared to $6 of Prom C. Can't wait until the second cafeteria opens!

For my 100th and final trick (of the Yelp 100 challenge)... a cafeteria! I know, it's very exciting. Don't worry, there are many more tricks to come. Ha! Hilltop Cafeteria is nowhere near as good as the one at the main VMware campus. I think it will take them some time to get their act together. (+) Sleeker, more mod design (+) Good quality food (-) Long wait times at peak lunch hours (-) Much smaller portions... about HALF the size of the other campus' cafeterias! (-) More expensive (-) Less appealing scenery: major construction vs. the main campus' beautiful zen ponds filled with sunning turtles and mallard ducks TIP: Open to the public, but since it offers substantially less bang for the buck, I recommend you check out the one at the main campus. TIP2: Illy Coffee is just down the stairs with all the good stuff (sweets)!

I love the wraps at the Indian station.
