“the shared plates and appetizers here are amazing. it's actually very reasonable to have a family style meal here and I would definitely recommend doing so over getting the sushi individually. the eggplant, brussels sprouts, tofu mushroom pockets, and katsu are my go-to.“

“I have been here many times, and each time is superb. And everyone I’ve brought here agrees, even my fussiest friends. The 49er roll uses fresh crab and is by far the best 49er roll I’ve ever had. The dragon roll is similarly spectacular. The miso soup is truly excellent as well. I look forward to every time I come here and am never disappointed. Bravo!“

“Delicious food. Amazing service. And great portions. We got the poke bowls; they were great!! We also got the 3 amigos special roll, green tea, miso soup, and salmon nigiri. All amazing!! Our server was nice, quick, and very attentive. Always making sure our tea was hot and we were well covered. A couple outdoor tables, and a good amount of indoor. Tons of take out action. They have cool purple rice as a signature. And the fish was very tasty! Highly recommend. There is a good sized parking lot next to the restaurant. Just be sure to park with caution; the neighboring Ace hardware brings a lot of turn over of large work trucks that have some challenges with the parking lot. This is a great spot!!Vegetarian options: Tons of veg optionsDietary restrictions: Tons of veg optionsParking: Street parking and a lot both free!Kid-friendliness: Yes!Wheelchair accessibility: A bit tight, but I believe it is Ada compliant“

“This is a little hole in the wall that is probably overlooked by many when looking at the strip mall it sits in just as I did but definitely don't be fooled. This place has such good sushi and the prices are worth the size which is big plus for me. There's nowhere to sit inside (guessing because of COVID like a lot of places) but the staff is as friendly as they can be for a pickup order. This is my second time coming here. This time I got a crunchy and dragon roll and the flavor was great, portions were just as great. I can't remember what I got for my first order but it was also really good and enough for me to want to go back. I will definitely be going back for a third time and highly recommend it to anyone who needs a sushi fix.“

“I really like the sushi rolls and the calm atmosphere at Sumo. Hot tea and miso soup to start on a rainy evening. It was my first time having the GoGo roll, with shrimp, avocado, cucumber and DF asparagus... give it a try! The baked scallop roll is a warm savory treat as well.“

“Yammy Sushi is Yummmmmmy sushi We had to get 2 orders of the Veggie Kimbap. The veggies, tofu, and rice all come together in an incredibly tasty way. The key to the "yummyness" stems mainly from the specific family recipe they use in preparing all the ingredients. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Our household has always been bullish on Yammy Sushi for lunch but now it's on our go-to dinner rotation too!“

This is a great place for you to hang out with a small group of friends or come alone to recharge your mental health (I mean seriously, their food is tasty, healthy, and pretty!)I’d definitely come back very often to try out all other creative cuisines! “

“Great little sushi place. It's a hidden gem. Ever since I stumbled upon this place, it has been my go to sushi joint. I've eaten sushi all over the bay area. Only a handful of those I would rate it 5 stars. This is one of them in that area. If you are into just rolls like 95% of the people then everywhere is about the same. But if you enjoy nigiri, sashimi and traditional Japanese food then don't pass up on this place.“

“Great omakase experience offering exceptional value. Initially comprising 18 pieces of exquisite nigiri sushi, additional pieces can be added after the initial serving. Each bite (almost)has its distinct texture and flavor. Standouts include the tako nigiri, smoked salmon with yuzu jelly, fluke seasoned with cherry blossom salt, nodoguro, negitoro hand roll, uni/squid hand roll, and more. They have inventive flavors and deliver a wow factor. I highly recommend sitting at the counter to talk with the chef. He is knowledgeable and kind.“

“Asaka is a delightful addition to the North Berkeley restaurant scene! The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and the owner generously donated a few platters of sushi ? to the Japanese American Experience event we held last month at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Come check it out!Vegetarian options: Honestly, I don't know if there are main dishes for vegetarians, but their edamame was delicious!Kid-friendliness: I think children would enjoy the food here.“

“Stopped off here when they opened before a concert. The staff was very nice. The food was delicious. Small place but not cramped. Everything was fresh and hot. They have can sodas, so there are no refills, but that's my only complaint. Will be back to try other rolls. Highly suggest the unagi with tobiko. So delicious.“

“For convenient ready made sushi, this place blew my mind. Didn't know what to expect going in and was met with melt-in-your mouth soft af salmon in their salmon roll. The rolls are a good size too. Perfect spot for someone on the go but also craving sushi. They give you chopsticks, soy sauce, and a napkin too. Thank you for the meal!“

“Aki San is a culinary artist. He has been a chef for more than 40 years (47years according to him). $150 omakase is such a good deal for the sushi he made (and his knowledge). I can not say this restaurant has the best omakase in the whole Bay Area, but at least it’s the best in east bay. Please come in and have a try before he retires.“

“My daughter found this restaurant and wanted to try their food. It was clean upon entering. The service was fast. We ordered to go and waited 10 minutes for our food to be ready. They we fully staffed on a Saturday and I could tell they were busy. So it was good they had enough people working.I was happy with how the food was packaged. It was delicious and the ginger slices were so fresh as well as the wasabi. So good!“

“Had two rolls as well as a few of the special fish. They were all really delicious, albeit pricey. Service was great; water kept pouring and we were looked after. We sat in the "back;" it was quiet and there was plenty of conversation to be had. And I really loved the kimono that was hanging on the wall.“

“We met friends here for dinner on a Friday night and discovered they have a GREAT happy hour menu from 5-7 PM, so you can actually get there and enjoy it on a regular work day. The service was warm and the food satisfying. It's a small place with a mom-and-pop vibe and, after ordering practically everything on the HH menu, we left happy and not feeling broke. Definitely worth a return visit!“

“Update: if you love Udon cooked in its own broth, then you have to try it here! The rich flavor of the broth made this simple dish quite tasty along with it topped with various vegetable tempura. It only took them less than 10 minutes to make and made for a very quick treat for dinner!!!“

“So I called this place this evening and asked if they could prepare my food to go without using plastic anything, they said they would and I agreed to bring my own box….well I brought a box and a paper bag and they provided excellent food and service without a bit of plastic and I was thrilled! Wonderful to find a place that doesn’t act like I have two heads because I don’t want plastic packaging. This is my new sushi place for sure!Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian rolls, salads, soup.Dietary restrictions: Diabetic optionsParking: So easy to park…plenty spaces on San Pablo and easy side streets“

“While I didn't like the music, and my seafood sukiyaki had very little seafood: a crab, a few small pieces of squid, a small scallop, and a few small clams, the sukiyaki broth was beautiful and my other dishes were delicious. . . The best were: The mixed tempura was well prepared and the salmon teriyaki with house sauce was very tasty, so it gets four stars. And yes, I will be back.“

“Benicia has so many restaurant choices. This one is a must try! A small family owned Japanese restaurant for dine in and take out. You can sit at the small Sushi counter or at a table in the small dining room. The people are nice and friendly and they have a good selection of Sushi Rolls and other dishes. We made a reservation just in case. Free parking is on the street. Casual dining for family, business and date nights.Vegetarian options: vegetarian dishes are available.Kid-friendliness: They have kid friendly mealsWheelchair accessibility: no stairs“

“I am no sushi expert but the place in Albany across from the fire dept is where I have been going. Luckily I came across Kiku by chance and the difference is dramatic from the basics point of view. Example 1 no fishy smell2 real seafood not fake crab in their Cal RollsThe quality is apparent now that I have tasted the difference.“

“The service was really quick, and the servers were polite and did their job well. The food was amazing. We got the agedashi which was some of the best tofu I've had, and we got the lion king roll and asami roll. Both rolls were spectacular, and the miso soup was cozy and yummy. Overall, I had a great experience and I will come back!“

“This is such an awesome little gem of a sushi restaurant. They have an amazing 10-piece sashimi deal for $19 And their ginger is quite possibly the best I've ever had. Next on my list to try at their restaurant is their salmon kama and hamachi kama.“

“Holy moly this place was good. One of the rolls I got was covered in tempura fried onions, scallops and lobster. It was amazing. The other roll that I got was a spicy tuna crunch roll and it was so good. Best spicy tuna crunch I've ever had. So simple but so delicious. Miso soup was perfect. Not too salty. Great decor with cute tea cups. Waitress was very helpful and attentive. Very speedy service. Quick in and out with great food.“

“Katsumi Sushi feels like a hidden gem. Ordering for lunch pick up is straightforward and easy. The sushi itself and the bento boxes are a good value, especially compared to prices in San Francisco. While the interior is dated, you go for the food and not the ambiance.“

“The sushi was amazing! Loved the quality of food. Here is my ONLY complaint: they had offered miso soup when I had sat down and I thought it was free. They ended up charging me 3$ for the soup when the bill came. This somewhat bothered me because I wasn't warned or else I wouldn't have gotten it. Otherwise, the food and the service is great. Recommend people to try this place out!“

“Food is competitive to other spots in the area, but what I do like about katana-ya is that it has wonderful variety of Japanese food. It may not have superior sushi or ramen but i go here for dishes that I can’t get anywhere else in this area.“

“Ramen restaurants are popping up everywhere nowadays! Yummy house is good and the prices are competitive with other ramen restaurants. I had the vegetable ramen and it appears to be the only ramen dish that don't use pork broth. For $12.99 it was a tasty bowl of portions. I also had the salmon tuna poke and that was a very tasty treat that I took to go and ate it at home while watching Fubar on Netflix, lol. Sorry, i forgot to take a picture of the ramen bowl. ?“

“So, I will be so sad to move further than 5 minutes away from this place. I enjoy that I can call order my 2 item with teriyaki salmon and Awesome roll but today I ordered my husband a beef teriyaki bowl and a seafood tempura plate. Seafood tempura was pretty good. I didn't care for the calamari however the tempura scallops were surprisingly good. I didn't realize the tempura plate was a whole meal because it also came with rice and soup so I gave it to my husband nibbled on the rice ate a couple pieces of tempura cuz I had to also taste a piece of two of my awesome roll and a couple of bites of my salmon yes I'm being fat with one of my favorite treats meals it's always good when you order tempura from the spot to make sure that they don't close the bag completely after frying it so that it doesn't get soft so I'll tried to rush up there and I got there a 2 minutes after they text me and my order was ready so I was able to navigate that whole bag situation. Yay!“

“We both ordered the bento box lunch special. I had 2 orders of vegetable tempura and my wife had the gyoza and sashimi. They charged extra for the sashimi but it was a large serving, thick cut and deep red. I asked for more rice and they charged for it which I thought a bit unusual. Overall very good food at a reasonable price. We would go back.“

“The other locations we once frequented for Japanese food have fell off and I decided to try Tachikawa. The bento box with Salmon amd shrimp tempura was tasty and fresh. Their rendition of Lionking was good and I like the way the salmon was rare, but feel like they shouldve asked me first. I wish the portions couldve been bigger for the price, but I suppose inflation has alot to do with that. I'll be coming here to try again the next time I get the craving. 4 star rating“
