Ample parking as its in a strip mall. We were the only 2 customers at around 4pm.Food has to be ordered and picked up at the counter even for dine in.Food is good. Reasonable potion.

Food is good but after spending $50 dollars, they can't even give a little extra sauce without charging $1.50 is absurd. And the audacity of a worker(lady) telling me they charge less than other store. Well, regretting that I had tip so much for a to-go order.. should have used that for extra sauces

I would change or delete my previous review, only after I try this place again.I believe the place is sanitary, and that it was just a little negligence on the part of a work. Prep work is hard, so I could see that as a possibility.I'll be going back within a week and let you know.

I know they have franchises of this place around the Bay Area but I think this location makes the freshest plates. This is my local Rooster and is my go-to place for lunch or dinner. I always get the #1 with an egg and love how filling it is. I always love that it comes with a side of the chicken broth which is delicious.I do hate that I always crave it when they're closed on Sundays and Mondays but the wait is worth it.

Looking for an easy meal that's tasty and won't make you feel guilty? This is your spot! Wow, I am so glad that the man working here peeked his head out and smiled at our dog. It was a sign from the universe that I needed to try this place out. You see I'm really big on vibes, and even though I've heard great things- I was walking by one day and I smiled at an employee who opened the door. She gave me this unpleasant sneer of disapproval, even my walking partner was like "Damn Girl, you just got shade plus some side eye served up ice cold!" So I was just left with a feeling of never opening my wallet in there! This afternoon, a completely different story. A friendly smile and welcoming little head nod, and at 6:00 I still had no idea what we were making for dinner. Now on to the food- This chicken is uncomplicated, fresh, tender, fall apart in your mouth deliciousness! The veggies are tender crisp, the tofu had great consistency, and the portions were just right. Their sauce on the side and cucumbers were very tasty, and very satisfying. They were generous, giving us three separate containers of broth. We were offered siracha, habanero, and utensils to go. I love how uncomplicated the menu options are. Our order was ready in no time at all, and I'll be back because my daughters both devoured their chicken breast and rice. They have vegetarian options as well. This would be such a wonderful meal to pick up for someone as little get well or I'm thinking of you. Chicken and rice- the ultimate comfort food. It is wonderful to have take out that isn't complete garbage. Tonight I had brown rice, tofu, and veggies. My kids had chicken breast and white rice. Healthy AND convenient, thank you very much. Because it isn't fried, overly seasoned or greasy, it works for everyone, even limited or selective eaters. This will keep nicely in the fridge for a few days too, unlike those fries and 1/2 a burger my kids always insist on taking home. They have a small selection of drinks like thai iced tea, soy milk, etc.The restaurant itself is very small, so I advise taking it to go. Enjoy

I’ve had Hainanese Chicken Rice in so many different places, but imagine my surprise to get one so pure, clean and delicious as the one at the little Rooster & Rice Pleasanton location! The plate was ready almost as soon as I finished paying, and the quality was out of this world! Tender, succulent chicken, fragrant and savory rice, super clean broth, and the dipping sauce was addictive. I only wish we had one of these in Monterey, CA!

I visited this place for the first time for a box with a big piece of chicken with jasmine rice. Chicken is very tender and juicy. Seasoning is perfect. Rice is not dry, it's pleasant texture when i put a spoonful into my mouth. The sauce comes with it made the dish even more enjoyable. The small cup of chicken soup is simple and tasty. The service is quick and efficient. The place is small, but eating place was very clean. Highly recommend.

This is my go-to for quicker, relatively healthy hainan chicken. As per different review of mine, I appreciate the simple and straightforward process for this hainan place. It focuses on only 3 real options to go for (traditional: which has breast and thigh, skin on, jasmine rice; marina: which is white meat only; veggie: ...)I ordered three traditionals for me and others. For me, the food and sauces don't disappoint, blending in with rice that's cooked perfectly, and served fast. All the chicken was de-boned with no shards/fragments and the chicken was still warm/hot, skin on (though you can choose to not have that, and to only get dark or white meat). It comes with cucumber, and blends together nicely with the sauces: ginger scallion or the peanut soy sauce. This location doesn't have a huge amount of seating, but I got my order to-go anyway. One gripe is you do only get one sauce to choose from, and it's an up charge for extra. That feels a bit nickel-and-dimey to me, but then again, maybe someone ruined it for us by asking for extra sauce all the time.It does gets a bit pricy for what you'd expect with hainan, but that seems to be the way things are going these days. Still a nice spot that I like to hit up for that hainan fix!

I was excited to see Rooster & Rice show up when I was searching for a lunch spot nearby our new work office. I used to go to the Rooster & Rice in SOMA in SF fairly regularly for lunch. This location was a little hard to find but I eventually did. It is located in a corner of a strip mall. I noticed they didn't have the sauce station with chopsticks like the SF location does (or did pre-pandemic). So when my meal was ready for takeout I had to ask for extra hot sauce but realized after I had left they didn't give me any extra. Just one small container. The portion also seemed kind of small compared to what I used to get. There weren't very many veggies at all. Also, without the station, I forgot chopsticks and not even sure if they have them. The ginger sauce and side of broth is still delicious and the people are nice that work there but I now know to make sure I have the hot sauce and chopsticks before leaving.

Been here about 4-5 times but never bothered to write a review (not that I can remember anyways). Wanted something healthy and took my wife to rooster and rice. Wife out the original with brown rice and extra veggies and an egg. I got their Thai special with extra chicken thighs and an egg. Consistent with what it remembered the chicken was soft and good. Rice was nice and fragrant. The egg was perfect. Here's my only disappointment; I think this might be the only place that charges for ginger sauce. I got two and it cost $3 something. The ginger sauce itself was ok. Little favor. But mixed with the soy sauce and chilli, it's much better.I don't know what it's missing but the ginger is missing something. Otherwise, it's a good spot for a healthy meal.

I was excited to try this place out. Heard from couple of locals about this place. Unfortunately the hype wasn't at all so. We order three togo chicken rice boxes, after getting home there was a strange smell with the chicken, not sure if it was spoil, parts of the chicken was dry dry and in another order some parts both smell and has discoloring. It was not appetizing any further so we stopped eating and tossed it all into the trash. The cup of soup was ok so 1star

Found my new favorite restaurant.I got the classic and WOW, it was delicious!Affordable, TASTY, Generous Portion, And Soup is also included???! They prepared the food very fast; Chicken was very tender and cooked to perfection; Sauce went amazingly well with the dish; Rice was so warm and yummy. The chicken soup came with the dish and it was exactly what I needed.Definitely Recommend

The Hainam chicken here is so tender and flavorful. They rice is also seriously delicious. I love their sauce. Best is that both my picky kids live their food. I love that they have a tubeless option and also a chicken breast only option for those of us that are watching what they eat. Is not a fancy sit down place. But their service is so fast and so quick. It's one of my go to places for "fast" food on those busy night where I just need to grab something for dinner. I'll usually order it in my door dash before I head out to pick it up. Way better than McDonald's in terms of healthy "fast" foods.

Rooster and Rice is a snug counter-service cafe serving dine-in or take-out khao mun gai (Thai chicken & rice).I came here for lunch on a Wednesday. Food: 5/10I always order "the original". It comes with breast and thigh with skin, cucumber slices and jasmine white rice. The food was disappointingly lukewarm in temperature. The chicken and rice was almost on the cold side. The house sauce was good and spicy. I asked for extra house sauce and habanero sauce. The sauces used to be complimentary but now they charge 2 for $1.95. Entrees also comes with a delicious chicken soup. I asked the cashier to make the soup extra hot. He was baffled...Service: 2/10The cashier that took my order was clueless about everything. I asked if I could get my soup extra hot. His answer was, "ahhhhh, I don't know." And I asked for extra house sauce and habanero sauce and he was just as confused and non-committal with his replies. Ambiance: 8/10Snug, simple, no frills. Overall: I was disappointed with the food served lukewarm/cool. And the extra charges for extra house sauce and hot sauce was an unpleasant surprise. Also, they used to serve the chicken soup in an environmentally/non toxic cup. Now they serve it in plastic, which really troubles me as a health enthusiast. And the cashier needs to be trained to be more knowledgeable about the menu and customer service.
