Place is really dark and it's hard to get a seat here. When we went it was empty but all the tables were reserved. Someone needs to teach them business operations. You can't have all your seats reserved by snooty non-minorities who think they deserve michelin star service but can't afford it and no one eating in the restaurant. You will go bankrupt and have to close your doors. Once you get a seat at the bar you wonder why the place is so popular. The sushi is average and overpriced. The service sucks. There isn't enough light to read the menu. Avoid.

This great Japanese Sushi and Grill restaurant has apparently "Closed". So sad! Hikari was excellent in many ways. This review is a sincere "thank you" to the entire Hikari Team for excellent service and delicious food! Hoping you'll find another location . Best of luck to ALL!

Not a review...More a query. Our favorite sushi place, Hikari on El Camino and Whipple closed abruptly late last week. Sign on door says "We are closed. Thank you for your patronage." So many spots didn't survive the pandemic, but this was a shocker. Too few low key, affordable places left between RWC and Palo Alto. Which would be about as far as I ought to drive after one adult beverage. Anyone know what happened and if they will re-open - ever? Sad and jonesing for garlic edamame and the salmon tuna tower - amongst other things!

Hikari is small, and a little dark but has great sushi!! Really tasty low-key sushi spot in Redwood City. They have very fun appetizers and the service has always been great. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy.

1. Part of tonkatsu was raw I accidentally had a piece and only found out when picking up the second piece2. Rice on Sushi is darker than all sushi I had before. I understand that vinegar is added to it for flavor but this is much darker than normal.3. Shrimp tempura had no flavor at all, it tastes completely flat.

Good fresh fish, reasonable prices and good taste. Skewers were ok, nigiris were good. Kid friendly and very spacious and clean. They seem a little short on staff for the number of tables but staff were pleasant. Will return definitely!

Hikari Sushi & Grill offers a delightful culinary experience with its impeccably fresh and expertly crafted sushi, complemented by a diverse menu of grilled delights, making it a must-visit destination for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts.

Sat at the sushi bar that was correctly positioned relative to the door. Got some happy hour (5-6 PM) sake and a chicken-skin skewer (unfortunately prepared with teriyaki sauce rather than salt). Later ordered two "Japanese" style chicken wings that were prepared with salt - much better. Had tuna, yellow-tail and salmon belly sushi that were all fresh and delicious. It's worth pointing out that the sushi rice was about a third the length of the sushi fish - the way it should be and usually is not.

Their to-go is the worst portions I have ever seen. I wish I could say it was fresh and tasty but whoever owns this place doesn't seem to value the customer's dollar.

Hikari Sushi & Grill has its own style of Japanese ambiance. The table style is so cool in this Redwood City Japanese upscale restaurant. Plum Wine and Beer and warm Saki. Five Star customer service from Thomas and a great family style restaurant atmosphere. I brought my family here and it will be a great memory forever.Thank you Hikari for a wonderful family dinner, fab food, outstanding service and many memories. Great job Thomas. See you again soon. This place is such a fabulous spot. Seriously underrated. First of all, the fish is extremely fresh. The skewers are too quality. The food always comes out fast. They're always placing trendy music. They check on you a lot and make sure you have everything you need. Don't miss their happy hour it's perfect.

The have little robot waiters! It's so cute. It's one of those belt sushi places that shoots the food out to you and you order everything via a tablet by your table. Delicious and fresh.
