We came in a rainy Saturday and it was pretty packed. We to join their virtual wait list on yelp and in person. The wait was about 35 minutes in total. The food came out in a timely manner and the server was super nice. He checked on us a few good times. The food was so good and we want to return in the future!

After reading the review from this restaurant I want to try out this place. It’s my first time coming here. Btw we got there around 7pm and 20 minutes later two people came in suddenly got their seats before us. Beside that I never got an explanation from my server if he ask me it’s my first here or would you like to explain how we order your food. I order a spicy broth with beef belly. The spicy broth nothing special just water with spicy powder. I thought I would have more flavor in the broth and vegetables was okay. As soon as I got my broth and meat. I dip my meat and bowl of broth was cooking like other patrons. I had to as the server if I need to turn on something the bowl. Luckily a patron explain there is a setting on the table to cook your bowl. I would rate this place 4/10. I won’t come back to this restaurant. I would rather try a traditional hot pot restaurant. Also they forgot my noodle before I finish my meal.

I got the original broth and it was basically water with a hint of onion. I've been here twice. Once a few weeks after it's opening and about a week ago. The food is over priced and the broth is 2/5. Meats are 3/5.I ended up having to order a flavor to be added to my original broth to get some flavor cause the meats weren't adding any. I really enjoy shabu shabu, but this is hands down the worst shabu shabu place I've ever been too. Both times, service wasn't the best, and food is overpriced and flavorless. Save your money and drive out to better places in OC, they're cheaper and better quality of items, and also more quantity of items.Btw it was $5 to add the flavor of spicy pork broth to my original broth. That's a rip off. The server explained that the OG broth is the base for all the broth (which makes sense, and is common). But to upcharge that much extra for a small flavor add on, it's better to go elsewhere.

Came here for a friends bday with a group of 12 after a round of golf. (Called ahead, made a reservation for 4;30 on a Sunday)The table was ready right on time (we were early, but hung outside until our table was ready)The staff came to take our order and offered to split checks (we never felt like an inconvenience for being such a large group, service was top-notch)My husband and I ordered the special for 2, beef belly. Pickled cucumber for appetizer, sukiyaki brothThis meal was SO flavorful Plenty of food to go aroundOur waiters came back several times to check if we needed refills on anything (broth, vegetables, drinks, water)Overall an amazing experience and one I would recommend

We have been to so many hot pot places from Vegas to here in socal. We've been to OC LA Ontario but then there's Mokkoji in Riverside. It's a love hate relationship. Love it because they have the best quality food and keep us coming for more! Hate it because it dumped on all the other hot pots we have tried and we can't eat anywhere else except here. So make sure you bring you food game here because it's amazing!

Me and my family love this place, pretty small but they're fast and sweet. Food is so delicious it's insane, you have to try the spicy pork broth. Fav place for a treat meal.

Trying Mokkoji for the first time, I thought that the Shabu was decent but not my favorite... I'd say it's slightly above mid? Not bad for a college town area but I'm not sure if I'd go out of the way to come again. For starters, the layout of the restaurant was a little awkward. Tables are only designed to seat four people due to the specific little pre-determined heating areas for your hot pot to sit on, so for parties of five or more, your only options are to either sit at the bar shoulder to shoulder and not be able to face each other, or squeeze into a 4-person table where someone is forced to share a pot. The heat for the hot pot is electronically self-controlled by the controls on your table which is the one redeeming factor to the small dining area, I'll give them that. And I did appreciate, however, that coming at 7 pm on a Tuesday night had absolutely no wait time or line whatsoever! I also want to give props to the service, they felt very attentive and friendly. Now for the Shabu itself - unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the meal although they wouldn't be any different than what is already uploaded here...I ordered the regular sized brisket with marinade sauce on the side, with a spicy miso soup broth. Starting with the broth, the flavor was yummy but kind of salty and could be a little spicier! It was also lacking a bit of that miso umami flavor that I love so much from other hot pot places. Additionally, a regular order of meat only gives you 10 slices, which in my opinion is good if you are not totally hungry. Also, maybe it was just me but the meat tasted a little inconsistent to me? Like something about the slices all had a subtle difference in their flavor profile and gaminess. The side sauces were the star of the show though!! I usually don't even line peanut sauce but this was the first one that was not overwhelmingly nutty and just perfect with flavor! The premade veggie tray comes with just a few little broccoli, a tofu, and some other little add-ins that I think combined with the smaller meat portion size left me feeling good but not overly full or satisfied. So if you're hungry or can definitely eat, I recommend to size up on your order!

Absolutely love Mokkoji!! I just moved to the Riverside area from a city that had shabu shabu spots everywhere. I can honestly say that Mokkoji has blown a lot of them out of the water. I've been here twice already since I've moved and each time was amazing and consistent. Both times I've come here with a friend and we always get the shareable toro which comes with around 30 pieces of meat for around $48/50 bucks which is not bad at all! Both of us have a pretty good appetite and I'd say it was more than enough for the both of us.The meat quality is really great, fresh with just the right amount of fat, and nice marbling. I recommend getting it marinated as it really brought out the flavor of the meat nicely. You can pick from a nice array of broths (some for an extra cost). Each time I've gotten the spicy broth and I think it gives just the right amount of kick. They even have ghost pepper drops you can add to the sauces or broth if you so choose. They provide a nice selection of veg & of course rice with every meal. I believe the veg and sauces are unlimited(?) which is super awesome cause I know there's a lot of stingy places lol. It is a little bit of a smaller spot so if you want a table you might have to wait a little bit, but they do have a counter space as well.Where I'm from in the SGV, it typically comes out to $30+ before tip. At Mokkoji I'd say I pay around $30 including tax & 18% tip and leave more than satisfied. Definitely recommend to stop by if you're in the area, especially with the colder seasons coming up! Will be back soon :)
