I visit this spot a lot since I work right next to it. I got to say the service is always great and they keep the place clean all the time. Rates are fair and they serve large portions.

I frequent this unique restaurant once a month since I like the good air that is unique to this place. The staff is awfuly attentive and well trained. The service is awfully quick. Most important, the food you eat is first-rate. I have been there more than once and I was always pleased. The pay is fair. I highly suggest this restaurant to to everybody.

Hey does anyone remember when this used to be called, "Tasty Food" and they used to sell "Hainan Chicken Rice"? Good times! Just reminiscing about great Hainan Chicken Rice unlike Hot Pot "great Hainan Chicken Rice" is harder to find in the San Gabriel Valley! Yep! I am still bitter about this!

2019-12-27 the shop is closed today for private party. I saw a rat (about 5 inches, not including the length of its tail) coming thru the grids of the gate, passing Golden Bull (GB)and heading to Star Thai (ST) next door. The counter person of ST saw it, kicked and scared it.The rat immediately returned to TastyFood/California Hotpot, ran thru the gate and hide itself under the counter. I reported to the security and the food court custodian.

2019-12-27 California Hotpot (CH) closed for private party catering. I saw a rat (the body is about 5 inches in length, excluding the tail) getting out from the gate of CH, passing Golden Bull (GB)and heading to Star Thai (ST) next door. The counter person of ST saw it, kicked and scared it. The rat immediately returned to CH (Tasty Food), ran thru the gate and hide itself under the counter. Foam cups, chopsticks, plastic spoons, seasonings condiments and sauces on the counter are explored to the rat on the counter. I reported to the security and the food court custodian about the rat. All the eateries in this food court must be inspected.

This restaurant is incredibly small. Inconveniently small. They have just a few tables for parties of two. It's shared seating if you don't want privacy or don't have much of a desire to wait 40 minutes for it. Normally that wouldn't bother me but the table space is so poor. The pots are bulky so they take up a good amount. With a drink and your sauces taking up the rest, I found it really hard to dip my food as I had to constantly reach over my steaming hot pot. Again, I had no room to put my sauces next to me instead of in front. My poor boyfriend burned himself several times trying to maneuver around the damn thing. Speaking of sauces, it's self serve. Again, I don't mind that but it's located in front of the cashier and right next to the kitchen. If there's a line (you better bet there's one) you're in the way of everyone. The sauces are bad by the way. If you're going to make me play Tetris for my food, at least make it tasty. The hot pots are decent. Not overly salty or flavorless. The ingredients are decent as well. Nothing felt like it had been sitting for days. Quality is fair for the price. Will I go back? I don't know. I was so uncomfortable that it just wasn't worth the visit. I mean, Alhambra has plenty of good hot pot places. There's nothing incredible about this restaurant. Now, I don't think you should rule this place out but I would caution you to be aware of its annoyances.

Best tom yum hot pot in the area! Cash only so be prepared. PROS: - Affordable hot pot(my pot came out to $10.00) - Tom Yum broth is amazing - Great quality meat and veggies - Friendly staff - Presentation is great - Located in food court, lots of options to eat/drink CONS: - Table availability on weekends may be hard to find - Parking in this plaza on weekends is definitely challenging at times - Wait time for the pot can be upwards of 20-25 minutes at times - Not the cleanest/quiet eating environment (food court), main location is much nicer environment - Cash only TIPS: - Mix and match soup bases + protein options - Don't forget your sauces! - Ask to put out the fire midway eating I went to this location on a Sunday during peak lunch time, we were able to find seating relatively quickly for a party of 6. It is located in a food court so be prepared to share a large table with other guests. I always get the tom yum soup w/ the Hollywood protein as my meat option. I needed to do the upgrade option which bumped the cost of my pot to $15 but for the quality and flavor that's a steal. It also comes with a drink of your choice (up to 3 different teas). They give you a number and you'll have to pick it up once it's ready. There's a sauce section right where you pick up the pots. They have an assortment of sauces plus green onions. I recommend the sesame sauce. The pot takes a few minutes to cook but once it's ready you can dive right in. Midway through you can also request the workers to put out the fire. Overall, I absolutely love California Hot Pot. This food court has been a staple in my life ever since I was a young child. I've been to the main location a couple of times and this one doesn't disappoint. If you're looking for a quick hot pot, stop by California Hot Pot.

Excellent customer service. I never write reviews but we had such a good experience, I wanted to share. Five of us ordered regular pots ($9~ each) and they came with plastic spoons (food court appropriate). My sister found something that she thought was a hair. Though I'm almost certain it was melted plastic from the black spoon. One of the young men working there was baffled, we brushed it off and my sister just ate some of mine. He came back with an ice cream and offered to replace the dish (to go). For $9~ something a pot, he certainly didn't have to do that. Especially since everyone but my sister agreed it wasn't a hair. But he did and both of the boys working there were very polite. We support your hustle and will be back.

This place is in the "The Square" market plaza food court section. They have another location in Alhambra that is better in my opinion. Maybe it's just better because they bring the food to me. The manager Garry is very nice and always works with a smile even though customers are rude when I'm there. He always checks out table to see if we need anything or want anything else. Thanks Garry
