Nice while it lasted. Sad that this mom and pop restaurant had to close. Best popcorn chicken and shaved ice

I just stop by yesterday, unfortunately this store closed permanently as if 4/16/22. So sad, our family's favorite restaurant.

Hole in the wall Taiwanese food place located inside the same plaza as GW Supermarket. We went and picked up to go on 3/20/22 and still no dine in. CASH ONLY btw This place will definitely satisfy your cravings! We are such a creature of habit so we always get the same things but one of our Taiwanese friend recommended and been loving it since then. Our go to is sausage and rice dish which comes with steamed cabbage and corn/egg/tomato. We also tried their shredded chicken cold noodle and that one was refreshing. It has hint of peanut butter flavor and very good mixture of flavors in general. We also wanted to try their beef noodle but the day we went was too hot so we saved that for cold night. As for appetizers we had their popcorn chicken and their fried raddish cake and they both were delicious. One downfall of this place is that close early so you have make sure you place your order before closing time which is 6 PM. Still exploring their menu and so far satisfied with their food. Must try if near or anyone craving Taiwanese food.

4/5 STARS Order: taiwanese meatball, oyster omelette, taiwanese beef noodle soup, sesame chicken noodles, fishball soup, shaved ice, taiwanese sausage If you're looking for a good taiwanese hole in the wall, this is it. It's not amazing, but it will definitely satisfy those Taiwanese food cravings. My family has been coming here for years and the only disappointing thing we've had here is the oyster omelette. It's good, don't get me wrong, but we prefer it with the "jelly" layer. From what I remember, Simbala doesn't make it this way. The "jelly" part is similar to the skin of a Ba-wan, aka "taiwanese meatball". As for the beef noodle soup, I would say it's one of the better ones in the area. The flavor of the broth is deep and the beef pieces are tender. If you order this to-go, they package the noodle and soup separately for your convenience. The shave ice here is alright, but its not something i get all the time (Little Bean in the same plaza does it better imo). The shop is small and next to an asian supermarket. Parking is pretty...stressful, especially since there are some pretty bad drivers in the area. I once saw a lady hit a parked car going 5 mph, like what?? How do you even do that, it couldve been a person! Either way, this is the one of the places to go if you want authentic taiwanese food.

We always come here for the Taiwan slush! Although the price keeps on increasing but still a good price with 4 flavors topping. Mainly cash and venmo or Zelle.

Everytime, I think of Simbala they are closed. But I still find myself coming on the other days. My go to dish is sausage rice plate and pork chop rice place. I usually order an additional sausage on the side because i literally inhale all of it.

We come here to buy the sausages, and they are always good. But the other week when we came here and we ordered takeout... I was actually quite disappointed. I ordered the fried pork chops with rice combo. My fried pork chop basically was not fully cooked I think? And you could taste all the flour on the outside of the pork. It was basically inedible. We did also order the spicy wontons which were decent! I'll give this place 2 1/2 stars for now, I'm not sure if I would come back in order any food but I might still come by the sausages and cook them at home myself.

Currently not allowing Dine-in. I don't know why everyone thinks the Beef Noodle Soup is amazing here. Maybe it's the take-out experience, but I found the soup broth incredibly salty and not with a lot of flavors. I ordered the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and I didn't taste any spice heat. It seemed more like a caustic salt bomb. The beef chunks were well-cooked but sparse and the greens that went with the soup were tiny, unflavored, and wilted. The minced pork and rice were okay. They give you a tiny piece of tofu with it. Okay. The popcorn chicken was excellent. Nicely seasoned with crispy basil. Wish there was some way to add heat to these little nuggets of joy. After the Beef Noodle Soup, I was expecting it to be overly salted, but it was seasoned quite well. Fried onion pancake was okay as well. I think this would have tasted better dined in and fresh, but alas...these times call for tepid take-out food or we have to reheat it in our own oven. Which...let's face it, I'll probably almost never do.

Today I went to simbala to buy lunch. The fried chicken meal is good.

First: CASH ONLY It's been a while since I've eaten here, but it's still just as I remembered. Here's what we ordered: Taiwanese sausage rice: this is what they're known for. We got the standard meal that came with the sausage, rice, cabbage, corn, and egg. Definitely a must try if you come here. If you're not fond of the sides, you also have the option to order the sausage separately - you can order the sausage a la carte with different toppings as well. Personally, I love the sides - especially the cabbage, so much so that I typically order an extra side of it. Side of cabbage: this taste great cold the next day imo. It's also great hot right when you get it. It's nothing fancy, just cooked cabbage with some salt (maybe). But I still really like it. Pumpkin rice noodle: I LOVE this. It's a dry noodle with a bit of ground meat, pumpkin, shitake, and some onion. Very simple and delicious dish. Bean curd: in general, I'm a fan of cold dishes - so I'll order this where ever I go. This one comes with a sauce, which was alright. I preferred to eat it plain. In terms of logistical stuff, they aren't open for dine in - which is totally fine with me and doesn't take away from the food quality at all (at least for the things we ordered). I appreciated that they were still being cautious, especially with the new variants out and about. Masks required regardless of vaccination status. Parking was also super easy - they're in a plaza with plenty of space. Also, the cashiers were friendly and made sure they included everything we needed to enjoy a nice meal. Needless to say, I left satisfied and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

california has reopened and yet simbala is still not allowing dine-in... so we took our business elsewhere. we've done takeout a couple of times and the quality has been dwindling. beef in beef stew noodles were tough to chew, and the portions for rice dishes weren't very generous. here's to hoping they'll allow dine in soon.

Food quality drop bad quickly. Taiwanese Meat Ball has sour pork. Lucky is price not raised yet.

Still the best place to get your cold chicken noodle fixed ! Never disappointed and the taste never changed in the past 10+ years! It's the best cold chicken noodle in SGV. The popcorn chicken meat was too big though. Would be nice if they cut it smaller piece but the taste is good. Friendly staff and COVID appropriately. They sanitize the little to-go station after each use. I don't think I have seen that in other Asian restaurants
