Mattone's is a gem. The lasagne is spectacular! Being vegan, they made me their house-made spaghetti with a wonderful tomato sauce. The wine selections were also great. We've had several of their pastas now and each one was exceptional. Staff is also always very knowledgeable and helpful. Just a lovely place for dinner.

Delicious home made pasta and sauces are the highlight here. The decor and atmosphere is a little sleepy, but the waitstaff were friendly and helpful. We started with the calamari which came out conspicuously quickly and was nothing special. However, when the pasta arrived it was clear it was made fresh and with love. The lasagna was a standout. It came in a huge portion and made with tender greed spinach-based noodles and a combination of rich meat ragu and béchamel.

Always a great dining experience. John makes fantastic cocktails and the wait staff are always eager to please. The presence of Jun, the owner, and his concern over your dining experience is special and appreciated.

We had been looking forward to this for months. So I'm brokenhearted to report that, for us, it was an epic fail: 1. First they tried to set us 2 women in the small back room with a table of 12 . No one else, just us. And them. Then they put us in the first table by the entrance (sigh); 2. The food? The Pomodori arrostiti con Mozzarella was made with canned tomatoes and the 12-layer lasagna was 12 layers of noodles (where was the cheese, the sauce, the meat?). And my wife? She leaned over her barely eaten plate of carbonara and said, “hey, let's take this home and doctor it up.”

Mattone's cocktails are top notch. Manhattan is best in Sacramento. Dirty martini was also very good. Calamari was nice and crisp, served really hot. Caesar salads refreshing. Lasagna is best in Sacramento and veal terrific. Not a fan of Brussel sprouts so she kindly traded out really good stubby carrots. All in all a great birthday dinner with our daughter.

Every dish ordered was the best! We started with the potato leek soup and the beet salad. I loved that they put more beets on the salad then you usually get at other restaurants. Then we had the Lasagne al Ragù di Carne, Spaghetti alla Carbonara, La Pasta Ripiena del Giorno and Pollo al Mattone. We shared two desserts: Lemon Cheesecake and Bourbon Pecan Crème Brûlée with candied pecans, pecan shortbread cookies--and they were yummy! Loved the shortbread cookies!!!

Again, fantastic food from the fried calamari to the lasagna and the ravioli of the day. The lemon cheesecake was excellent, as well. Great wine list, too. Only complaint is the noise level but the food is worth it.

Wine list is a little small for a place of this price point.

When we arrived at 6 for our reservation, I could hear the wait staff talking about how they were understaffed because an employee showed up for her shift a little late. We were seated and waited 30 minutes for a server to come ask if we needed drinks or were ready to place our order. It wasn't until we asked a busser if a server would be coming to our table which one finally did. The service was lacking in. The beginning but once we started ordering, it picked up. The food is mediocre. A little on the bland side and pricey for what you get. The menu is pretty limited for entrees. I'm not sure if I would come back, as there are other Italian restaurants are better suited for my taste.

very very good food.. like a 10/10 but pricy af (brace ur wallet) and the portions are so small. i literally left hungry . i had the arancini and homemade ravioli. staff was nice. and mind you, the bread was cold even tho it was the first thing served. so over all, i've been there, done that, and wouldn't go back.

Lasagna is to die for. Friendly and attentive staff. Cozy feel to main dining room. Highly recommend.
