I checked to see if Midtown made it through the pandemic and according to Google it appreared to be still operating. My son wanted to go there for his birthday on Saturday. We arrived at the time it was suppose to be open and it appears to have gone out of business. No one answered the phone nor was inside setting up for dinner.

I have gone back a month later and there were approximately three tables and one server. She was really nice but the food was just awful. Food quality has deteriorated significantly over the last year. We ordered 5 rolls and they were mushy and not very well made. Ingredients were off in flavor as well. I'm not sure I'll be back unless things improve. Super sad because I've been coming for years.

I used to come here often but tonight was unforgivable. The empty tables should have been a warning of the steep decline of Midtown Sushi. They are severely understaffed, slow, and the food is terrible! My husband and I sat down and ordered quickly. The husband was looking forward to a beer with his sushi but they were out of every beer except two... after 20 minutes of waiting we asked the waitress about the beer, she acted like she forgot... then every time she walked past us she ignored us and still never brought out the beer. 10 minutes after that a second person came out and told us that the beer we ordered was warm and they don't recommend it, so we had to wait for a beer that he didn't even want. We waited an hour for food to come out. I'm vegan and used to looooove their secret tofu and rolls but when the food finally came out it was bad. The secret tofu was soggy... one piece tasted funny so I stopped eating it. My vegan roll had a bland watery slaw on top when it used to be this delicious creamy and tangy slaw... it's such a bummer. I was very overwhelmed. One appetizer never even made it. We asked for the bill and the appetizer was still on the bill. The waitress said they were making it for us but we were ready to leave. My husband isn't vegan, he ordered sashimi and he said it was sliced super thick and hard to eat and he found a bone in a piece of fish. I also noticed that they had finished the sashimi plate waaaaaay before our other food came out but left it sitting there because we hadn't gotten any appetizers yet. I have no idea why their timing, service, and food is so bad now. We ended up paying a lot of money for crappy food and crappy service. Other customers were receiving the wrong rolls and were waiting a long time as well... some were even getting up and leaving. I wish we had gotten up after 30 minutes and gone somewhere else. Hot mess, avoid at all costs!

Good food ruined by terrible server. I’ve had servers who were new or in training and it’s been completely understandable but this server seemed like he had no interest at all. Sapporo was slightly warm and one of our tables drinks never came out after 20 minutes. Sushi took about 40 minutes to come out. Server brought food with no comment and forgot to bring plates and chopsticks. We had to get the staffs attention. There was another server there that seemed to know what they were doing and brought out plates, chopsticks, water refills, and brought another Sapporo. The food was good but not worth 40 minutes of waiting plus a terrible server. In the end I only got charged for one Sapporo but I think this was more of a mistake than just out of good will. What’s incredibly disappointing is that it didn’t seem like a busy night at all where the two servers working would be overwhelmed. Won’t be returning anytime soon especially if that specific server is working.

Absolutely the worst sushi place!Changed their corkage fee policy and never told us nor did they put on the menu. With that said, no explanation from the staff with very rude attitude. Again, the food became very mediocre after the change as well! Don't get scammed by this place!

So I've been to this spot plenty of times when it was Lou's Sushi and even after Lou left and it became Midtown. I came in tonight and was just surprised how bad this place is now. My usual order of the Irishman, secret tofu, were completely different. Brussels sprouts halfway cooked, tofu soggy (it's supposed to be crispy). The service was plain bad. We came in at the same time as another couple and we all requested to be seated outside. The couple went to a table with chairs ready (the only table ready), and my gf and I had to get our own chairs from the stacked pile. As we order, we're given one menu, not a big deal as I was ordering everything and it was my gf's first time. They bring out waters and there's no ice, and the cups are different cups. They bring out our plates and soy sauce bowls, and the plates are different. We order appetizers and rolls, and they bring out the rolls before any of the appetizers. It's the little things that separates a good place from a great place. They also forgot an item I ordered. Mind you, us and the other table were the only people at the establishment. We only went here because I raved how good Southpaw Sushi is but they were closed due to an event and I told my gf it's the same menu pretty much and I've been here before. Will never come here again.

Possibly one of the best sushi restaurants in Sac that provides unique vegan sushi rolls. As a sushi lover with a vegan sister, I always try to find inclusive restaurants that don't force her to eat avocado maki rolls all day. A little bit pricey but worth it for the experience! I wish they had oysters again. Their california rolls have real crab and it's the perfect amount of creaminess, my favorite place to get basic cali rolls!

This.....has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a sushi restaurant. And I really liked Midtown Sushi before, but after this one incident tonight, I'm so shocked, sadden, and disappointed. This is why: We had a server who was in training, make our food, and sold it at full price. Now I have nothing wrong with someone in training making food for me, but let me know first. The food was so badly prepared. We ordered 2 rolls and one sashimi plate. Everyone of them was bad and poorly made. The rolls were so bad. There literally was one grain of rice width of the rolls. There was only the skin of the unagi in the center of the roll. The other roll had about 50% less of the size of other rolls that the actual sushi chefs were putting out for other customers. I was so shocked, I had to ask the waiter if there was anything wrong with the rolls. He said, "oh yeah, they came out thin, but I cut it into 8 pieces instead of 6, I'm in training" and then he left. The sashimi salmon plate was so bad too. The size of sashimi salmon looked thinner than the smoke salmon slices you got from the store. Super thin and severely under seasoned. The whole time i was shaking my head in disbelief. What's the worst part I feel was that there was no oversight in the dishes of this waiter /trainee. How would any sushi chef let this guy bring out sushi like this way? I doubt anyone looked at his work before he brought it out. 2 rolls and a sushi plate and all for full price of $50. Now if it were made by the real chefs and I got what I paid for, I would be happy and content. But a trainee making terrible sushi and selling at full price is disgustingly dishonest and sad to me. I'm now eating a burrito because I need to get the taste out of my mouth and get some actual food in me.

VERY Disappointed today. We were celebrating our 42nd anniversary. Everything we ordered they had to substitute it with something else. They were out of a lot of the main ingredients. They were out of trumpet mushrooms which was the main reason I want there. Vegan mushroom Tenders, I love them. The fried Brussel sprouts were burn and greasy. The wabasi was dried and nasty looking. I can't believe they would serve food like that. This place has definitely gone down hill. We'll never eat there again.

Midtown Sushi? More like Mid Sushi. Honestly just not worth the money. Quality: 2/5 Portion: 1/5 Price: 2/5 Service: 3/5

This no place is so good! Really high quality fish and ingredients. The restaurant inside is very small and intimate but they also have outdoor seating. Definitely a hidden gem in Sacramento. You can see the chefs making your sushi and the ingredients they use. The sushi chefs greet you as you walk in and the servers are all really nice. It seems like a small hole in the wall sushi place but wow, the quality is so great, if you're looking for a high end sushi place in sacramento, this place definitely makes the list. This place is also one of the only places in sacramento where you can find so many different vegan options, which are hard to find at sushi restaurants. I highly recommend the 6 item roll, so good! Everything else was delicious and they have so many good vegan items on the menu. The mushroom tenders were really good, an amazing substitute for chicken katsu and served with a really good sauce.

So I agree, this place is a shadow of what it used to be. We waited quite a while for our food and it was mediocre for the price at best. Used to love coming here and now it seems to have taken a turn. Bummer. We also got visited by Rizzo the Rat, but hey, it's midtown right?

Obsessed with this place. VEGAN rolls everyone!!!! And... they are, hands down, the best vegan rolls I've ever had. The fresh toppings and sauces are drool-worthy. And don't get me started on the vegan secret tofu. I about screamed out loud in excitement at first bite. Plus, the waitress turned me on to a cooled! peach sake on my last visit during one of Sac's 105° nights. So worth it. So fun. Great service. Cute corner restaurant with patio lights and outdoor seating with a huge picture window so you can still watch the chefs at play. I bring all my friends here.Vegetarian options: Vegan rolls! Huge vegan and vegetarian menu including appetizers.

Overpriced, underwhelming sushi. OMFG comes slathered in some kind of mayo-like dressing and quite soggy, can barely taste the fish/eel. The staff were friendly and accommodating

I heard a lot of great things about this place. Definitely wanted to try it but the first thing we experienced was Rats (Literally right next to us from the neighbors house) we didn't leave because of the reviews. We did switch to another table by the way. Waiter was extremely nice. We ordered a Vegan Katsu, OMFG Roll, 6 item, BBQ Albacore, and the vegan Katsu. We ordered a chicken Teriyaki for my daughter but these guy were out of chicken. Food was mediocre at best. I was thinking of leaving a 2 star review becuase the waiter was so awesome but the out of chicken, Rats, and Common Sushi being over priced. I had to leave the 1 star. Definitely will not be coming back.
