a quaint market selling a variety of snacks, desserts, & asian household staples! i visited for the first time on saturday, a little after 1PM. there was already a line inside, but it moved by quickly. i got a variety of mochi (Sakura, Pink & White Fukashi, Coffee, Kiku, Green Tea, & Strawberry). they were all amazing - soft, pillowy mochi outside with a not-too-sweet filling. i also purchased a snowcone at the window outside - an extra small mango with condensed milk, about $6-7 (cash only & can only pick one flavor). tall, sweet, & strong! don't expect a soft, shaved ice texture - the ice hardens a bit and, of course, has a "harder," snowcone texture. though it's an hour away from me, i'll definitely make future visits for the mochi!

This family run, traditional mochi shop is a gem of Sacramento!! In the summer they also serve HUGE snowcones. Nowhere else can you find mochi as traditional & as delicious as Osaka Ya. Also, it's best to pay in cash at this family owned, small business of Sac!!

Can I give more stars? Fresh fresh fresh, so nice to be able to get high quality and tasty manju and mochi. I can't recommend highly enough. Get there early in the day for best selection.

Osaka-ya is a gem and pretty much the only store standing from the 2nd iteration of Sacramento's Japantown. Tip: This is a traditional manju shop. The manju is always fresh and I love getting the traditional four manju. Anything else is a cherry on top. This shop is a manju shop first and foremost so don't judge them if they don't have a specific food item! Yes, they offer maki, inari sushi if you're lucky in bento (during the week earlier in the day). Some days they offer onigiri and spam omusubi (call them for days and hours or to order ahead!) you can always find some Japanese pantry goods like osembe, ramen, different sauces, etc. I picked up some of these instead of heading all the way to Oto's. This shop has stood the test of time so it looks that way. But the service is always efficient and polite. Ambiance is a throwback to single-item storefronts. Starting in April they will have shaved ice at the window!

This place is a hit or miss. When they have fresh food, it is five stars. But it's very inconsistent as to what is available. Sometimes it's pretty sparse and I walk away very disappointed. If I'm in the area, I gamble and drop by to see what they have but I won't make a special trip there.

A gem, family owned business that has been around for generations specializing in Japanese goods and freshly made mochi daily. In the summer, it seems like they also have shaved ice. When I went on a Saturday afternoon, it was very busy with a line out the door. The line moved quickly, and was able to get mochi that were all filled with generous amounts of red bean. The mochi was flavored mugwort (my fav), green tea, white bean and original for about 13$. Definitely will be back for a special treat!!!

Cashiers are friendly yes and the onigiri is good but I'm giving two stars bc of bad business management. Whenever I try to get onigiri it's a game of chance. I've come 4 times at different times just to either find a sign saying the onigiri will be done later or they aren't available today. The desserts I've tried were dry so I don't plan on getting that again. It's small which isn't an issue to me but I just need some consistency with when food is ready.

Really good quality mochiNot sure how I feel about the peanut butter ones - feel like they could use a higher quality peanut butter however the mochi in general is really goodThe red bean used is really high qualityLastly they have a small assortment of snacks and essential cooking goods you can pickup as well

Loved it! Friendly and efficient service, an amazing variety to choose from, and a simple ambience. Went here for my daughter's birthday, and loved most of the mochi we got. There were 2/25 that we were not feeling, but the others were eaten up in the first two days. Thank you, Osaka-Ya for your delicious mochi!!

I had thought I didn't like mochi since I only had tried commercially packaged ones, but tasting Osaka-Ya's homemade mochi changed my mind entirely. I got a variety box and was amazed by the how velvety the texture is and how pleasantly subtle the flavors are. Also, the cashier was extremely helpful and kind. Highly, highly recommend supporting this talented family-run business.

I have frequented Osaka-Ya for years! I have enjoyed their rice balls, mochi and shaved ice desserts, especially when I begin to feel a bit homesick. The service is always delightful and I am grateful to have this small and authentic place here in Midtown.

I've lived a few blocks away for years and never knew this place existed! Now I stop by all the time for their amazingly delicious mochi. Such a treat to have them in the neighborhood!

Amazing I go there all the time it's one of my favorite places in Sacramento. It's like in the style of the donut shop where there's all of the different kinds of emojis and you pick the kinds you want. The mochi itself is amazing very smooth depending on the ones that you like, I usually get the KiKU. It's a very sweet mom and pop shop truly a gem in the city.
