Incredible diner, like you would imagine in the oldies movies. Items were a bit expensive for dessert but also extremely rich and filling. I took about 2 bites and was feeling full already. We had 2 slices and shared between three friends and still had leftovers. There was a small line but it went through fast. The staff was very nice and friendly. I really loved the diner atmosphere. I would go back again but maybe not order as much. This is a perfect spot for a first date or a date spot. ?

Probably the best cake I can find in the area. They have such an amazing selection and have great recommendations. Love coming here after brunch because it’s not too crowded!

I love this place. It's eight on 1st in the heart of downtown Sac. I used to work at a local bakery, and Rick's dessert diner blew us out of the water with their amazingly rich and decedent cakes, pies, torts, cookies, ice cream, I mean the list goes on. They are amazing at Rick's. Be sure to tip.

The great reviews and long lines for this place drew me in. Unfortunately, the 3 desserts that I ordered did not live up to the hype. The cake was dry and lacked flavor and the cookie was meh at best. Also, as a previous review mentioned, a majority of the desserts are not labeled so you don't know what it is you're looking at. This causes the line to move more slowly because everyone has to ask the employees what each dessert is. This could be avoided by simply putting signs.I can't recommend that you do not visit this place enough, unless you're into waiting in line for stale, flavorless desserts.

Saw the 300+ reviews at 4.4 stars, got there and saw about 25 people in line. We saw a table with about 3 sliced of cake that were barely touched getting cleaned up by the bus boy and should have known right then to leave, and that its not worth it. Was met with staff that didn’t seem too pleased to be there, cake that tasted like it was old as hell, probably previously frozen and shipped in. Cake was dry and meh at best. Strawberry lemon cake and red velvet, and the cannoli was soggy and inedible. Everything looked great in the case but damn what a disappointment and waste of $25 and an hour in line. Will not be returning.

My co-worker suggested this quaint little diner and I'm glad I checked it out! Needless to say, I was like a kid in a candy shop. Chocolate Kahlua Mousse Tart was my selection. This was a rich, creamy, deep chocolate Kahlua mousse in a thick, buttery Oreo cookie crust topped with plenty of real whipped cream. I have never tasted anything so good and cannot stop thinking about it. Lol.They have a wide selection for all tastes and preferences. I just happen to be a chocolate mousse/Oreo lover. Give this place a try. I'm sure you will find it a pleasantly memorable and tasty experience.

Every time I go here the employees look and act like they hate their job, never get one smile more like their rolling eyes. Then the audacity to get hit with tip at the register? Tip for making me feel like an inconvenience?

Delicious cakes, but if I pay $70 and tip $14, I’d expect my cake to look pristine. Cake looks like something was picked off the top and had a huge crack in it, after cutting a few slices it eventually just fell apart.Left a voicemail to speak to a manager and I still haven’t gotten a response :/

I've tried their deli sandwiches twice. Although the quality is good and the price is reasonable, the bread is as too tough for me to chew and my jaw gets tired 1/3 of the way through a sandwich.

Recent:Love their hot fudge sundae! The one thing I always want to get from this place. The cheesecakes are great too!2 years ago:One of a kind in this area and most of the times the desserts are great! (Sometimes the cakes can be quite dry/dense and the frosting very thick and cakey) But love love love their Key Lime Pie!

I had expectations of a 50's diner, lots of atmosphere, maybe music. I realized I was in Midtown, enough said about that. Staff was lackadaisical, the two Italian sandwiches turned out to be two different sandwiches. The fruit basket didn't hv much fruit, ice cream was Gunthers', good. Place was run down, floor dirty. No kids their either. Atmosphere was Midtown grunge. I can't recommend this place anymore, I knew the old place and this was a big disappointment.
