Very good gelato for an after dinner treat in San Carlos! I love how they give you a little dipped cookie and the flavors are fun! Kid friendly and they have some tables if you want to eat inside. They also have fun looking dipped ice creams, but I haven't tried them yet!

Came by on a Saturday night for some gelato, and it was busy in here! We waited about 15 minutes in line to get our gelato. Afterwards, we sat at one of their tables enjoying our gelato for a while, and we noticed a consistent line out the door the whole night. Gelataio has great flavors and a variety of drinks and other sweets if you don't want straight gelato. The only downside is they don't allow samples, which was a bummer. Also heads up that if you get more than 1 flavor in a cup, be mindful of which flavor you say first -- you'll get predominantly that flavor with much smaller portions of the other flavor(s). Gelataio also has 2 running chocolate fountains (milk and dark) for chocolate drizzles and/or to coat a wafer. Seating can be limited if they're busy. Service was friendly despite how packed it was.

I got the small chai tea gelato in a waffle cone, and it was amazing! The flavour was on point, and I enjoyed every bite. They don’t offer samples at this place, which could be a result of the pandemic, but in any case, most of the flavour options are pretty standard, so it’s really not necessary. There’s a decent amount of seating at this place, which is nice because when my friends and I visited here after getting dinner nearby, it was raining outside, so it was nice to be able to continue our catch-up.

They always have unique gelato options. A must try place if you are in the area. My favorite was Pistachio and Hazelnut.

Beware! If you are walking on Laurel street, the aroma from this cute little shop will scoop you in. But the best part was tiny little cones - for those of us who crave sweet but don’t want to put on extra pounds.

TLDR: Dayam. That’s just how GOOD Gelataio is.Details: They don’t give samples BUT I guess that’s just how confident they are in their quality & taste (and/or their business model just doesn’t allow for it).So what’s a dessert-aholic like myself left to do? ?Well, it was my 1st time trying them out and they have a BOGO ish deal - well actually it’s buy 2 pints, get 1 free.So I got pints of Strawberry sorbet, Pear + Riesling sorbet, Rosemary Crème fresh, Double Chocolate, Pistachio, & their take on Ispahan (rose + lychee + raspberry) and they were all FANTASTIC (when I sampled them at home). The dairy gelatos (the last 4 flavors) were wonderfully creamy & smooth in texture. The pectin (or gelling agent probably) for the sorbettos lended a smooth mouthfeel too. Tastewise 4/6 favors were relatively light on sweetness & moderately light in favor- which I like. For me, I usually like my deserts on the refreshing vs heavy side. The remaining 2 flavors that leaned on the stronger taste & sweetness side were the double chocolate (milk + dark chocolate) & pistachio- which I think is also nice when u want to change things up a bit to be a bit more decadent for special occasions. But my personal favs or rather the flavors that I think deserve the most kudos in crafting their flavor profile (ahem, the ones I recommend you try if you’ve got a creative streak ?) are the rosemary crème fraîche (I was really pleasantly surprised, it’s got a nice balance for a more savory ice cream flavor that isn’t heavy & still refreshing in taste & mouthfeel), Ispahan (you don’t often see this take on flavors in the US for iced desserts & this one was well executed & balanced - I’m a fan of rose & the lychee mellowed out any overly flowery taste with the occasional zing from raspberry), and the pear riesling (when you add booze to frozen desserts it adds another layer of complexity, not just in taste but also making the dessert making process since you’ve also now lowered the freezing point, which is going to affect the consistency & well how well/fast this sorbet freezes/melts- but I thought they did a lovely job in texture & taste for this one. The booze is present but not overpowering, so again another well balanced creation).Last but not least: their associates are super lovely; although there’s no sampling, they kindly + patiently answered all my questions as I debated (tried to narrow down my choices, lol) btw all the amazing sounding flavors they had. ❤️

My husband and I get gelato here regularly. I LOVE their cookies and cream flavor, and the regular size waffle cones are perfect. Would be 5 star except that a) the waffle cone is $9 which is pricey, and b) on a recent visit there was a wrapper both outside and inside the cone, which made it difficult to eat.

Affogato at its best. Super friendly workers build your dessert with care. Dine in or take it to go. Charming no matter how you get it. I recommend the salted caramel or the affogato with vanilla.

The pistachio gelato is my favorite right now! It has the fresh taste and not too sweet. The pint and fresh scoop both work. For the fresh order, be sure to get the fresh dark chocolate drizzle and wafer cookie. The hazelnut gelato is smooth and creamy, but a tad sweeter than the pistachio. The hot chocolate was a tad sweet, but pairs well with the gelato I ordered. My friend really likes the rose lychee flavor. Keep it up! A busy, but not crazy busy vibe. PS - This is my friend's spot btw.
