Qualbi Palow, I don't have a reference point for this dish, but it was great. I've had lamb plenty, great flavor and fell off the shank. I've had a huge variety of rice dishes, this was also awesome and the raisins were so good.Great service and I picked up some stuff from the market.I actually like the atmosphere better when its more simple/unpretentious.

The worst customer service you could ever get, the lady working started yelling at me when I asked her about the place. I walked out immediately, I was disgusted by her entitlement.

The food was EXCELLENT. Not a big fan of lamb but could not stop eating It. The rice and carrots was also very good. When back in San Diego will go back for sure.

I recently dined at an Afghani restaurant and had the pleasure of trying their Afghani dumplings, which were truly delicious. The dumplings were bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection, making them a standout dish. However, I was a bit disappointed with the level of attentiveness from the staff. Despite the fantastic food, we were never served water, which took away from the dining experience. Overall, while the food was excellent, I hope the restaurant can improve on their service to enhance the dining experience for their customers.

Excellent Quabli Palow (lamb shank over basmati rice with carrots and raisins). The lamb was tender and cooked perfectly! The garlic naan was very nice too!

This is a new Afghan restaurant in the Claremont Mesa area. They are both a grocery store and a restaurant put together as one. They have a wide variety of Afghan dishes. So far I have tried the Mantu - Afghan dumplings with meat sauce , garlic , green onions and yoghurt. I also tried the chicken kabob - very good boneless pieces of chicken bbq with rice mixed with raisins, carrots , nuts and spices. So far this is a great restaurant and I will definitely come back.

Walking into Afghan Restaurant, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Nestled right next door to “Aladdin” with its Mediterranean flair, this gem is transforming from its grocery market roots into a culinary haven. It may not boast the polished ambience of more established spots, but let me tell you—this place is all heart and flavor. From the moment Laila greeted us with a smile that could light up the room, I knew we were in for something special.I’ve been a San Diego local my whole life, witnessing the ebb and flow of Afghan cuisine in our vibrant city for over three decades. Yet, dining here felt like a revelation. The dedication to authenticity and culinary craftsmanship is evident in every bite. The mantu—a dish that many restaurants shy away from due to its complexity—was simply sublime. The lamb skewer kebab melted in my mouth, its tenderness perfectly complemented by the aromatic qabuli palow rice. And the beef Chabli kebab? Just divine, with a spice blend that sings. This place is the very definition of a “hole in the wall” where the real measure of value isn’t in the decor but in the dishes that transport you straight to Afghanistan. Supporting local businesses is more important than ever, and when the food is this good, it’s a joy. I’ve already spread the word to family and friends and can’t wait to return. If you’re seeking an authentic Afghan dining experience, look no further. Afghan Restaurant is a testament to the love and legacy of Afghan cooking, and it’s right here in our backyard. A true hidden treasure.
