One small waffle no sides tax & surcharge 17.00 before tip is way too much for too little food. Many nice restaurants have eggs Benedict with potatoes same price leaving your full not still hungry like here

Good place for an expensive bite delicious bite. I love how the servers are accommodating in the beginning but forget about you after the food was delivered to the table. The place is small but cute. Only recommendation is for service to remain the same throughout the whole time.

Food very basic. The guy waitress was kinda rude when I told him I brought my own tea bags and made me pay for hot water.... Then he was rushing us he gave us our bill in the middle of us eating. Never would come back just bc of the poor service. But my food I ordered was good but it was just basic.

Heard about this place from a few folks through the years, so I wanted to check it out. Walked over here while on a lunch break attending an event at the Convention Center. Caught them right before they were about to close, but they very graciously invited us in. Had an amazing breakfast with eggs, sausage and potatoes. That sausage patty is something special! Restaurant is clean and intimate. Service was fast and very friendly. I would go here again.

My husband and I had breakfast at Cafe 222 this morning and what a pleasant experience! We were seated right away and Sam was our server. She was cheerful and professional. We got our food in no time and it was hot and yummy. My husband had the Super Biscuits and Gravy and I had the Blueberry Pancakes. Both were delicious!!! Can't tell you what a wonderful dining experience we had at Cafe 222!

Went here few years back and it was nice. Not anymore. Rude hist whim made us sit at counter even though he said he had a table when we entered. woman whom asked for a table behind us got it and there was still one more available when we ordered at counter. Eggs Benedict had soggy muffin and eggs were overcooked. when told waitress i got a sorry, rather then, can we fix that. Coffee was awful and quality no worse than Dennys. Breakfast potatoes were decent though. Worst Birthday Breakfast I've ever experienced. Don't waste your time here, so many better options all over downtown. I've been in restaurant business my entire life and this is not how it should be done.

AMAZING food and great and personable service. If I lived in San Diego, I would TRULY frequent this place! I went twice during my visit in San Diego and the food was excellent each time!

What you need to know: The food is really good -- throw any idea of a diet out the window and just give in to the dark side of the Peanut Butter and Banana stuffed French Toast (Solid -- though my dining companion said it needed syrup, I thought it was fine as is), the Huevos Rancheros, corned beef hash (excellent), biscuits and gravy (very nice), Granola Waffles and the Strawberry waffles. Coffee was too bitter for me (normally I'd dink a star... yeah, I'm tough, but in a good mood today). Staff is crazy friendly and makes you feel at home. Ambiance is bare bones, but in a polished way. You wouldn't want to hang out for hours, but you don't feel rushed. A Very Solid breakfast choice!

It's tint, it's charming, it's incredibly delicious. A must is the biscuits. Although known for amazing waffles, the biscuits are flaky and buttery. The service attentive and kind. It may be small but it is mighty. Walk off the beaten path and come to the corner to find Cafe 222. I'll be back next time I'm in San Diego!

Lovely food. Great service. We got a table on the upper patio which was cozy and also had good privacy.

While parking may be tough to find as usual in downtown, this cute little cafe is worth the visit if you enjoy chicken fried steak and waffles. The strawberry waffle was one of the freshest and tastiest waffles I've ever had. Make sure to take a quick snap and eat right away because it's best as soon as it comes out. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas and dogs are welcome on the outside area! Very simple diner feel on the inside. Perfect place for brunch and they also have fresh fruit bowls piled high. I'm excited to visit this place again.

Service was great from the time we called to confirm they were open on New Year's Day. Upon arriving, we had a short wait, and we directed to what we were told was the best seat in the house. I see why they said that. It was the only booth and a corner booth. This is a diner style spot, and it doesn't have too much seating, but they are fast, and the food was excellent! The kids had hot chocolate and loved it. We ordered a waffle and French toast for the kids, and the kitchen offered to bring them precut for the kids, which was a first and much appreciated. We also had the blueberry cornmeal waffle, and that also had excellent flavor. They don't serve alcohol, so no mimosas, but we overall enjoyed our meal. My only other observation is that it was busy and a little hard for our server to hear us when we called him a few times. This is definitely worth a stop if you love breakfast!

Solid little breakfast spot in downtown San Diego. Opens early, super attentive staff, and tasty breakfast. We got to Cafe 222 right at opening and were quickly seated. The waiter was super nice, helpful, and made our visit great. We had the strawberry shortcake waffle, pancakes, huevos ranchero, and the spinach scramble. All of the food was fantastic. The waffle was super crisp and the strawberries were fresh. The huevos were awesome and everything that you could expect from a well put together huevos ranchero. The spinach scramble was also great. We also had a coffee and a latte. Both were also great. Overall, great breakfast!
