Went in there a couple days ago. Asked for whole live abalone. New owners son said the divers aren’t going out for them right now. I told him they are farm raised. I asked him to split a lobster for me and it took him 5 minutes. No one behind the counter knew how to fillet a whole Rock cod. I was told new ownership got rid of the experienced help that knew how to do it. OBTW their whole lobster is 36 dollars a pound. PL seafoods are selling them for 30 per pound. And they are not Maine lobsters.Won’t go back there. They need Tommy back!

I used to love this place and have been a patron for years. It’s under new management and they now have a butcher shop inside. My husband and I are pescatarians, and when we go to a seafood market, the last thing we want to see and smell is animal carcasses.Unfortunately, unless they decide to make this a “seafood only” place again, we’ll be at Point Loma Seafoods.

I have eaten sushi for over 45 years. I have made my own sushi for over 30 years. The shipping was great and well packaged. I purchased the 3 types of salmon online. Also bought Escolar and Bluefin Toro. Two of the center cut salmons were dry, lacking salmon flavor. The Mt. Cook SAIKOU salmon had good flavor, but mixed with bones and some veins. The Escolar lacked flavor. Bought 3 portions of TORO. Two were blood filled with veins throughout. The other portion had a rind that had to be cut off. See picture. At over $100 a pound, that was not proper. Do not expect to get what you see in the beautiful pictures online.

Thank u Catalina for your non fishy fish! So, I don't eat fish normally because a small hint of fishiness is detectable to me and ruins the meal for me. Recently I was introduced to some fish/method of cooking that I liked and a friend recommended this place as a really good place to get fresh fish so I thought I'd try and replicate this. Success! They were super helpful and gave me a few options of fish I might try. Both were good. I'm not familiar with the fish world but it was a little expensive to me, roughly $15 a filet (half a pound). But worth it to have fresh fish. I will definitely go back and recommend this place.

Terrible packaging leads to spoiled product and wasted money. I had so many issues with my order, from missing items, to poor quality, to bad vacuum seals, that I can't recommend them to anyone.

Under new management and not for the better. A corporate fish Monger is an oxymoron. It's a shame, back in the day, this place was IT. Back to Point Loma.

Still 5 stars 13 years later. I have gone once a week and I am rarely disappointed. Amazing selection of local fish.

I received underweight product on three of the six purchased items. If you choose to do business here, I recommend to double check their advertised weights.I made an online purchase for sushi grade fish. Half of the items I received were significantly underweight. The 1.7lb. Hamachi was 0.3lbs. under and the two 1.1lb. Albacore Loins were both 0.15lbs. under (weights with 30g accounted for packaging). Totaling approximately $28 in shorted product. See attached pictures of weights. After contacting their customer service to report the issue, I was told they would get back to me with a resolution. During this time they changed their website description to state that advertised weights are approximations (see attached before and after website screenshots). Afterwards they basically tried to gaslight me into believing that I didn't read the description correctly, when I had screenshot evidence of the descriptions before they were changed. After numerous interactions, the company refunded the cost for the shorted product but continued to deny any responsibility. Their customer service was not apologetic, denied any wrongdoing, blamed the shorted product on their sub-tier suppliers, continued to gaslight me even after I showed them photo evidence of their website change, and they offered no restitution for the time and effort I spent dealing with what I see as a serious issue on their end.

My go to place whenever I'm in need of healthy omega-3 of fresh seafood. We usually get sushi grade fish and have sashimi at home. Trick is to go early to avoid long lines. Hours of operation has recently changed so definitely check hours before heading down that way.

Catalina offshore is my favorite go to store when I'm looking for the freshest Sashimi grade fish available in the San Diego area. They sell wholesale but also have a retail counter..Angel help me today and completely went out of his way to help me select a new fish that I've never had before, trim it as well as packaging in a beautiful container with some lemon and jalapeno slices.I almost felt like I was at the sushi bar.

I love the local tuna we get here. However I've sent multiple emails & a hand written letter asking them to discontinue selling Faroe Island salmon. Fisherman slaughter 500 hundred dolphins/ year to secure the salmon in the seas off the North Atlantic. It's a horrific practice, which is why many restaurants (like Beeside) & others refuse to sell. That Catalina won't respond to questions deeply concerns me. There are other wonderful sources of salmon, like Alaska (much closer too).

Incredible selection of fresh seafood, including rockfish, uni, salmon, Chilean sea bass, and Baja grouper. They have all sorts of salts, sauces, and condiments, including everything you need to make sushi. Kelly was super helpful in showing us around and explaining some of the lesser found items like uni salt. A MUST for seafood lovers!

Located near the Mission Bay Area, I stopped by on my way home from the park. While it's a market, there are some prepared items that could be purchased and enjoyed right away like the poke or seaweed salad. Be prepared to buy fish and sashimi it yourself. Nothing is pre cut for you but it stays fresher that way. I came to check out the Uni which is sold in tray for $34.99 for $14.99 a lb for the live uni.Location wise, it's nestled in a cul-de-sac off Morena. It's got a private lot for parking. Walking in you'll see a small market, they sell condiments, bottled drinks, local products such as special salt, oyster in a tin, and sushi preparing items. They had some unique butters and some sturgeon caviar that's available as well. You can conveniently purchase anything you need to prepare a seafood dinner including lemons as most of those ingredients are there. There are also two large refrigerators that sell frozen odds and end cuts for $5 a lb. We got the blue fin tuna, oysters from sea of Cortez, and poke which was a mix of tuna and salmon pieces. No chopsticks or soy sauce is provided. But no problem, we ate it at home and it made a delicious lunch. Everything tasted fresh. Not a lot of shell fish items, there was a tank of rock crab and mussels and oysters in ice. If you're not going straight home, bring a small cooler bag and ice.I will be back when I am craving some fresh oysters or poke.
