Hotel possesses a lot of character. Rooms are amazingly clean and bed is comfortable. Management and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.Because it is a small establishment, there is no after hours office or service. That part is quite understandable. There is no exercise room even though there is probably space for it. Befroom was relatively cold at a Max of 67°. In all fairness, management later explained that what looked to be an air purifier on the floor could be engaged to produce heat, but it would have been better to explain that before rather than after, particularly because the modern wall based AC heating system APPEARS to work. No television even though it could be hidden within a curio in case they are trying to preserve an Historic feel. This writer is sympathetic to the hotel's desire to preserve history, the in-room shower and space heater and AC system notwithstanding.. Still, if they want a five-star review, especially at the prices they charge, they need to furnish five-star amenities.3.5 star lodging at 4.0 star prices.

Followed signs for the restaurant but no tables or person at reception. Sign outside said brunch 10-2 but there was no evidence of any restaurant there inside or patio. I think this is just a hotel now.

Honestly if I could give more stars I would. It was my wedding this weekend. Every single staff member was incredible and kind. Dee is so knowledgeable, helpful and funny. They put on beautiful events here so don't pass them up on doing an event. The rooms are beautiful and furnished to transport you into a simpler time. They have a breakfast which was great! The scones are a must try if you are there on the weekend. I will definitely be back and make it a tradition annually. The food, drinks, service is unmatched. We received so many compliments about how good the chef was, the skill of the bartender, and how helpful and professional all the team members are. All of our guests said it was the most unique and fun time they have had in a long time! Thank you thank you thank you! 100/10!!Rooms: We had family in all the rooms so we got to see each unique room. The different decor, bathtubs, art work it was all lovely. I was in 4/5 which was breathtaking.Nearby activities: In the hub of old town really makes it easy, close to SeaWorld by car and sports arena area for retail stores.Walkability: Literally IN old town.Food & drinks: We have also been here for happy hour and the food was fantastic. The breakfast during our stay included yogurts, granola, cereal, and bake goods along with juices and coffee which was wonderful.Noteworthy details: The staff was some of the most passionate, hardworking, wonderful and helpful workers I have ever seen in ever role!

The BergerMan and The Silver Fox truly LOVE hanging out with things older than we are. And that seems to be getting more difficult all the time!Technically the oldest still-standing building in the city of San Diego, the "Cosmo" certainly fits the bill. Our stay in Room 7 was epic. No TV. No Telephone. (WiFi if you need that kind of thing) I truly HUGE two person hammered copper tub!We will certainly be returning!

I stayed here with my husband on January 1st and had the best time! Dee checked us in and had great stories to tell and was just a very knowledgeable person. He clearly is very excited to share the history and experience of the hotel, and was just a very positive and happy person to be around. If you believe in ghosts, you’ll definitely experience some things here. We stayed in Room 11 so we got a lot. I had my laptop plugged into the wall and recording all night long. Before we went to bed we walked around Old Town and got some food, left the computer recording for 3 hours with no issues. When I recorded overnight however, the video corrupted and is just not playable. The video was around 7 hours long. I have used that same laptop to record 10+ hours of continuous video with absolutely no issues before. And even though it was plugged in all night, it was at 60% battery in the morning, which again, has never happened before, even with continuous recording. We’re local to SD so I started a new video when I took my husband to work the next morning and ran a few errands. I returned 2 hours later and again, corrupted video. The only video that wasn’t corrupted was the first one I took. I have some of those cat toy balls that light up when they’re bumped, so when we left for dinner we scattered them throughout the room, within view of the camera. At different points, 3 of the 4 balls lit up, even though there was no noises or anything at the time they lit up. 1 of them was on the bed and another was on the chair in the corner, while the last one that lit up was in the bathroom doorway. There was also some lights flickering in our room and in the hallway at various points, and the light fixture in the room appeared to have been gently pushed multiple times, as we noticed it was swinging when we were just sitting down and talking.I was most bummed about the overnight video being corrupted, because I was hearing the floor INSIDE the room creaking all night, as well as tapping on the wall, the chair next to the bed creaking, and noises in the bathroom. The wall I heard noises from, was the wall behind the bed which is connected to the bathroom within the room. There’s just 0 explanation for that. I believe the hotel was empty except for 1 other room on the other side of the hotel, so there’s no way it was them I was hearing. When I returned to grab my laptop and drop off the keys at checkout, I heard footsteps down the hallway and stop outside the door. Room 11 is at the end of the hall, so I would have heard if they walked away, and there’s no way they were walking past the room. I thought it was housekeeping, but when I didn’t hear a knock I opened the door and there was no one there. Due to the age of the building and how the floor creaked in that hallway, I would have heard those footsteps going back down the hall, if it was a person.I have 0 logical explanation for the things we experienced, other than the hotel being haunted and still very active. Definitely recommend staying here if you’re interested in that sort of thing, or just enjoy the history and location!Rooms: Very eerie, but in a beautiful, historic wayNearby activities: Look at “walkability” section :))Safety: Very safe areaWalkability: Walking distance to trolley/bus stop, restaurants, candy shop, fun stores (El Centro Artesano is the best store), etcFood & drinks: Old Town has the best Mexican food in California. There’s also olive oil tasting nearby which I never knew about before and it’s incredible.Noteworthy details: Dee is very positive and happy and so excited to talk about the history of the area!

What a great historical hotel located in Old Town. Only 10 rooms very laid back and about a block away from train/transit station. Dee, the manager was great.Don't expect new furniture, this place is historical,, kind of like staying in museum.Just the experience we were looking for.
