This place is awesome, the owner is so kind and friendly. I went a few months ago and was so kind. We had questions and he answered them and had such a great energy vibe. Seems like a one man show so you have to understand if it's "slow" but I mean what do you expect. It 's one guy so if you can get past that and put away your preferences for quick fast food and embrace that good food takes time. Then you'll really really enjoy this place.He also gave us Japanese candy for free which was awesome.

Huge sushi rolls. Langostine was interesting and very tasty. The restaurant is a fascinating one man operation. If the restaurant is too full he'll let you know that your food will be a long while if you plan to order. Luckily I grabbed a table when he wasn't too busy and everything felt relaxed. He also gave a bag of Japanese candy after the meal. Good experience.

The restaurant looked closed, but I’m glad we went in anyway. The owner was such a kind man and dinner was great! The portions were huge and the extras like the edamame, crab salad, seaweed salad were so thoughtful. We got the shrimp tempura roll (favorite) and spicy scallop roll (the best I’ve had in YEARS) as well as spicy tuna and California. All were huge and delicious! We planned on ordering six rolls, but the owner said four would fill us up (party of 3) and he was right! We are stuffed! He gave us some candy to end the meal and sent my daughter home with fresh flowers. Will definitely come again next time we are in the area!

I only ordered a California roll but my takeout bag looked so big! The chef packed edamame, apple, candy, seaweed salad, and crab meat for me. It made my day!The chef was also the only one working so I am very impressed by how kind and thoughtful he is. Please go and support him! The roll was also delicious!!
I was in the mood for sushi, this place was near my hotel and had good reviews. I love yellowtail and ordered 12 pieces. The fish was excellent, great quality, and the individual pieces were generous, much larger than you typically get. Plus, the chef gave me an extra piece, Seaweed salad, crab salad, and steamed edamame. All of this was bonus given and not asked for. That’s service and generosity above and beyond. The whole meal was just delicious. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in San Diego, no question!
I ordered two trays of sushi for a work event. The owner helped me estimate how much to order. The presentation was lovely. More importantly, the sushi was delicious! The group devoured the sushi and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hanaya Sushi is A1!

Drive out of my way to get here but they were closed despite google maps saying they close at 7pm. It was 6:15pm. Then, as I was leaving I noticed their door open. I walked over to ask if they were open. The open sign was off so they appeared to be closed. I was greeted by an angry little man. I tried to explain that I had been in the parking lot but their restaurant appears to be closed. He said, very rudely, “I don’t turn on sign. I don’t want more customer. I here by myself.” He basically told me he was open but didn’t want customers. I tried to clarify if I could order and he just repeated with a more rude attitude. I have never been treated so rudely for simply inquiring if a business is open, ok buddy, you got your way. I will never ever eat here.

Undoubtedly the most tasteless sushi I have ever had in my life, it’s a one-man show in there, so don’t go in expecting you can get the basic essentials you would expect from a traditional sushi Resturant . No crunchy rolls, no teriyaki sauce, most things that require the use of a kitchen are not available, it’s simply a rice cooker and microwave and this gentleman‘s hands dine in is not available. It is Takeout only.If you were wanting proper Sushi with the appropriate, tender, loving care you expect from Sushi this is not the place to go. Inflated pricing for less than adequate appearance and taste.You’ll also receive a beverage that you didn’t order or seasonal fruit that you didn’t order as well, likely as a parting gift for the horrible sushi.
