The food is amazing and atmosphere reminds me of restaurants in Japan. We ordered beef udon and it came super close to Marugame. The mackerel and chicken cutlet dinner sets are also great.

Nice place ! Really good food , very traditional and good servers ! I read some reviews about this place and I saw people complaining about salt or stuff like that which I don't think it's accurate. From my perspective everything was awesome If you are looking for a good spot this is the place

Significantly worse than the other location. It’s definitely bigger, probably seats 3x more people. I ordered the same thing I usually order at the smaller location and it took 3x as long to come out (restaurant was not busy). The floor was also sticky everywhere I walked. Sticky floors near the register when I paid and sticky all around where I sat. They 100% do not clean their floors. (Probably just sweep) Usually restaurants clean it daily. They serve authentic Japanese food but man they could put some effort into cleanliness.

Used to be better. Menu has changed for the worse as well as the food quality and service. I used to love this place but unfortunately I won't be coming back. Hamberg set and Okonomiyaki were insultingly small for what they charge.

My go to place for udon in San Diego! I always get their sukiyaki udon. The udon itself is always the perfect chewy consistency and broth has the right sweet and salty balance. Service can be slow at times because they're short staffed but the food makes up for it!

I love this restaurant. Everything is authentic and delicious. I usually order the sukiyaki but the last time I was here my friend got the curry katsu and it looked so good that I am definitely trying it next time. Also the service is always great. The staff is super friendly and nice.

Service was average and they were nice. We got Nabeyaki udon, carbonara udon, and okonomiyaki. The carbonara udon was alright. On a scale from 1-10 it was 6.5. The initial flavor was nice but after a while it gets tiring. Do. not. get. the. okonomiyaki. It's $11 and its small asf and not even that good. $11 for something so small? I could get a bowl of pho or a rice vermicelli bowl from Pho Cow Cali for way more food!!! Lastly, let me tell you about the Nabeyaki udon dish my girlfriend got. It reminded me of the shitty noodles my mom used to make as a kid. Noodles, broth, chicken, everything was super flavorless and plain. I'd rather eat fried chicken from Vons any day of the week. $43 in total. Go somewhere else with your hard earned money.

Delicious food in an unobtrusive corner of a strip mall. I prefer the counter seating, but that's just me. There is outdoor seating with heat lamps. Lots of variety on the menu, but I usually order one of the udon and a draft Sapporo. Good service, not hovering or ignoring. Just right. This is a great place to come to for a nice but casual time. I've seen couples, friends and families coming here.

I appreciate the original Okan, and Okan Diner was enjoyable as well. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, the food and service quality has declined as they are facing challenges in hiring. It used to be a fantastic spot with a diverse range of Japanese cuisine. I hope to revisit and provide another review in a few months, anticipating a return to the Okan I know and love

Mentai butter udon 2/5: was WAYYYY TOO SALTY. It would have been delicious if not for that fact. Tonkatsu ramen 3/5: it was alright meh My friends who ordered katsu curry and carbonara udon seemed to like theirs. We sat in a corner of the restaurant and the wait time for service was a bit longer than I'd like. They do have some redeeming qualities tho: the menu is diverse and the ambience is a vibe.

Really cool Japanese diner with excellent food and great prices! It's an experience unlike what you usually see in San Diego, both in terms of atmosphere and food. Definitely a must try!Vegetarian options: There are quite a few vegetarian and seafood options, and they are clearly identified by name/descriptionDietary restrictions: Plenty of chicken, seafood, and vegetarian optionsParking: The shopping center this restaurant is in has pretty tight parking

The mentai udon was delicious! It was so creamy and the roe created a great salty umami flavor for the sauce. It was a great filling portion and was the highlight of my trip in San Diego as someone visiting from Los Angeles. Also, the calpico sochu cocktail was a refreshing alcoholic drink. I don't usually like the taste of alcohol, and this really hit the spot for me.
