I came here at six am one morning, after dropping off one of my relatives at SDO. A little background on Verne Winchell's place, before there was a green siren in Seattle, before the Dunkin' folks opened in Quincy Mass and even before Randy's Donuts, there was a Winchell's Donuts. Winchell's is a SoCal institution. The great thing about the west coast, is at six am there isn't a lot of folk up on local streets. So I did a U'ie and parked right in front. LOL The employees up and around making coffee, and restocking the glass case. Busy, busy. But there was a steady stream of customers. In and Out within a couple of minutes. Quick and easy. Nice Interestingly, the green siren had a long car line up the block, as did the new Better Buzz across the street. Not here, just folks coming in quickly, getting a large coffee and a donut. Like Norman R I'm a huge fan, too. I would come here just for the smell of freshly made coffee and donuts. Cannot beat it! Yum.

I was so happy to see this donut shop was still open. I thought all shops had closed down. My 1st job in High School. I use to make donuts. The owner is very friendly and kind. I will be back.

They have a great selection of donuts and breakfast items. The food was good and hot.
When in palm springs I go to Winchell's often the doughnuts are great I went to the location on Rosecrans what a disappointment the chocolate croissant had to be at lease 2 day old and the chocolate long johns greasy and without any flavor If I would have not already have been on the road before I tried them I would have returned them But the 8.00 I paid for 3 pastry's wasn't worth the 20 minute return trip, If you are looking for good doughnuts in San Diego try TK on Clairemont drive or Barrio doughnuts on Clairemont Mesa Blvd

Exceeded my expectations! Jelly filled, coconut glazed, and Oreo. Along with strawberry banana smoothies and pastrami bagel sandwiches. We can't wait to go back. The staff were so helpful this morning and very kind!

When I trip to San Diego, I visited this donut shop in the norning. This store looked like old, and the worker was so friendly and taste of donut is so good. Donut was thick and soft!!! I really like it.
