The restaurant was hard to find, (no sign) and i thought the food was mostly a steak house due to the old food pics from what was the previous restaurant. The service was ok and it was nice ambiance. The menu was limited and the items were on the expensive side. Do your research before going there.

We were planing to visit this place because we had a great time at the 5A5 steakhouse that we have visited before covid. My husband thought it's the same place as the steakhouse when he booked through open table. But it ends up it's a total different place other than steakhouse. They have a very small selection of Asian fusion food. We ordered the beef noodle soup ($30) and a dumpling ($23) literally just one dumpling. With the 10.8% of tax and 25% of sf mandate service fee. AND still need to add 20~25% tips. Very pricy to me. I think the name 5A5 should better off keep it as a steakhouse. I miss the old times.

The food and Japanese whiskey flights were incredible. The service was outstanding. It was perfect for our birthday celebration. Highly recommend. It's a small menu and each dish was outstanding.

I looked for a unique dining experience to entertain business guests in SF this week and I found a gem with 5A5!!! I let the excellent Cheif Cat select and have us served family style and WHAT A CULINARY TREAT!!! From Starters to Entrees, nothing disappointed. Her last Entree was the Beef and Noodles, which all of us raved about - really an exceptional dish. If you want to skip the traditional Steak Houses of SF for a unique culinary experience, it's 5A5!!

Not at all what I expected! Tapas style food servings. My wife and I had dinner reservations in the beginning of September. When we arrived and until we finished we were the only diners. Food wasn't particularly outstanding it was like average bar food at best. Server was friendly & manager was friendly. According to manager the 5A5 Izakaya is just a pop-up at that location because their main location (on Jackson St) is still closed due to building or remodeling issues. No longer the 5A5 Steakhouse from before...sadly my wife and I found this to be a very underwhelming dining experience. However, they did honor a 5A5 Steakhouse gift card we had from before they closed down (because of the pandemic) hence the overall 3 star rating. Food selection is pretty expensive for what you get and that's not including booze. That was our experience but they've only recently reopened so we'll see if they can get back to the 5A5 Steakhouse days...

Intimate but fun, lively setting with a mix of diners and happy hour guests. Short rib beef noodle soup was delish, a5 wagyu skewers were a fav too. Chicken wings/wangs were a bit messy but great crunch/texture. Reasonably priced for the quality

Delicious and cute with highly attentive service. The entrance is a bit hard to see but worth the hunt. The beef soup is the highlight if you want something hearty but all the bite were delicious. We ordered almost everything between two people and a Japanese whisky flight. Shrimp toast was more delicious then it had any right to be. Wagu dumpling with it's rich broth was also surprisingly exceptional. Salmon collar was also decent portion and so fatty and flavorful. The melon salad with the salmon in a fish sauce dressing should be it's own dish. I'll be back.

There's something very strange about this place including the ambience. The decor was more like a cheesy nightclub than a fine dining establishment. The menu was very quirky with lots of items that were more like appetizers than entrees. Food and drink were ordered with a QR code and our mobile phone. In addition to high-priced food, a 18% service charge was automatically added to the bill with the expectation for an additional tip. Seemed heavy-handed since the ordering process was self-serve. Chef was really nice, food was tasty, server delivered food to table in a pleasant manner, overall price was on ok but ambiance was hideous. Beware of the 18% service charge added to bill but not clearly disclosed. Likely will not return.

The two cocktails I has were amazing (Black & Gold + Forget Me Not), but the Change Your Life bowl did not live up to the name and the shrimp and uni toast was also underwhelming

The food is extremely salty for me as a Taiwanese living in the US for about 7 years. Service is good. Noted that the restaurant charges an 18% service fee on top of the tips, which, together with the item price, makes the experience over-priced. I would try other fine dining options which would not lead to having to drink five glasses of water in an hour. The taste of standard Asian restaurants is also more of the taste of my liking.

This was the most mediocre steakhouse I’ve ever been to. Such a disappointment

I know this location is currently closed right now but I thought I give my two cents about my experience here. Parking was not too bad as I was able to find street parking upon arrival. I mean it's San Francisco we are talking about here. Parking here wasn't as bad as other restaurants around the area. Restaurant was spacious and staff was kind. Definitely more of a upscale steak restaurant so dress to impress! I believe their website have a dress code also. I came in a large group for a birthday party. The host booked a multiple course dinner. Therefore, I believe we had a set menu with different items to choose for each course. I tried a little bit of everything. My favorite was the Lobster Tempura and the Sea Bass. Flavor profile is there but both dishes felt like I've tasted it before elsewhere. Nothing original or I feel like haven't done before. My least favorite was the Truffle Mac and Cheese. The Mac and cheese was dry. The truffle was over powering the whole dish. How can you have enough truffles right? Wrong! It was too much truffle that I had to move on to the next dish. A few of my friends also ordered different cuts of steak, which I tried and thought it good but again not spectacular. Now here is the reason I'm giving this place two stars. I came with a group of over 12 people so we were well aware that gratuity will be included. With that being said, we booked this dinner to celebrate a birthday. What do people do for birthdays? Some people bring a cake to sign and cut at the restaurant right. Little did we know someone brought a cake as a surprise for the birthday boy. After we were all finish eating, my friend ask the waitress if she can have the kitchen cut the cake for us or provide us with a knife for her to cut the cake herself whichever is more convenient. To our surprise the waitress said the restaurant will charge 5 dollars per slice just to cut OUR own cake that we brought. Is this not ridiculous or is it just me? I mean come on, charging people to cut the cake and charging per slice is something none of us at the table heard before. I've been to many causal and upscale restaurants, I've never heard of such a thing. Mind you our bill with gratuity came out to be over six thousand dollars. I wish I took a picture of the receipt. The food was good yes, but not something I would crave or want to come back for. Especially now knowing that this restaurant is charging people just to cut cake. I just wish they had a better approach to certain situations like this. This is very bothersome because it was a birthday and I don't see why it was so hard to cut a cake without charging extra. We didn't mind the amount due at the end of the dinner but the fact that the restaurant couldn't have done it as a kind gestures. Not even a complimentary dessert is appalling. For a restaurant as upscale and expensive as this one I expected more when it came to customer service and overall experience dining here.
