Great Filipino coffee that's well balanced! The ube latte here is a 10/10. I ordered mine hot with oat milk, and all the flavors blended nicely for a satisfyingly smooth and creamy latte. I like that there's quite a bit of seating for the space and a decent amount of street parking. Seems like a great environment for getting work done, and I look forward to coming back for that purpose and to indulge in another ube latte.

Goven the ratings, I was hoping this would be the one good cafe in sunset. Sadly, despite the prices, very mediocre coffee.

The coffee here used to taste amazing, with notes of berry. Now it just tastes burnt, worse than Starbucks. Dunno what happened ?‍♂️

One of my favorite coffee shops in San Francisco. Their Ube latte is delicious and beautiful - the purple is really unique and the Ube (Filipino purple yam) flavor really stands out. They specialize in barako beans from the Philippines. They also have unique baked goods like mochi muffins. The space is big if you need to work or hang out. Plenty of outlets and a bigger table in the back that can fit six. There’s a cute patio with seating if the weather is nice.

This is the nicest place to sit. The staff is friendly, it's cozy with plenty of clean, open seating, and they have free wifi. The coffee is lovely and served in a beautiful cup. They even have an outdoor space but too cold today to try it out. It can be hard to find a pleasant place to hang out on this side of the city. Very happy with Ballast.

My first time in the neighbourhood and the cafe! They have booth indoors and outdoor seating. Although they were out of chocolate, which meant no mochas or hot chocolate, I was pleasantly surprised by their coffee. The Barako coffee was excellent, boasting a rich and robust flavor.Overall I had a good experience. If you're a coffee enthusiast, Ballast Coffee is worth a visit.

Best cafe in West Portal, by far. Good coffee (I order the medium roast for my cappuccinos), nice atmosphere, good place to study or work, tasty pastries (mochi muffins from Third Culture bakery), and fast friendly service from the baristas there.

Ballast is my favorite coffee shop in the West Portal neighborhood! I always get the ube latte, which is one of their more unique drink offerings on the menu. They specialize in Barako coffee beans, which are native to the Philippines. They also have a great selection of pastries and small bites, including kouign aman, mochi muffins (from Third Culture Bakery), croissants, and empanadas. Good amount of indoor seating with outlets scattered around and a cute patio out back. The cafe is often filled with students and it can get a bit loud and lively, but I've had no problems finding a seat and knocking out a couple hours of work here on my laptop. Staff are friendly and the cafe has a cozy welcoming atmosphere.

Found this unassuming coffee spot in the neighborhood. We ordered their ube ballast cappuccino, barako crush (iced), and an ube mochi donut. We were surprised they have a cappuccino option. The drink ended up a bit too sweet for us though. Other than that we love everything about the place.Parking: A lot of street parking here and it’s only $0.75/hour.
